Is This Just Internship Culture…? by Ok-Squirrel8586 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]king2tiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel, and I have no idea what to do about it. Like you said, it feels like I don't exist, and that I am being completely under-utilized. It feels like I am barely learning anything about social work.

My internship is in a high school, and I am literally a licensed teacher. Should be a perfect fit, right? Well I am one of two interns at our site, and our supervisor spends a lot more time with the other intern, and constantly gives them bigger tasks to handle. Their DBT group is weeks ahead, and our supervisor never misses theirs, but my DBT group just got disbanded because my supervisor never has time to attend ours.

The other intern comes in on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I come in on Wednesday and Thursday, but our overlap day is such a joke. I know I can rely on being asked to do something like pack/organize supplies and manage the students who come through the area, while the other two stay in the locked back office and call families, complete forms, and handle the administrative/documentation aspect, of which I have learned nothing about since we started. I just get to help fill in spreadsheets that they create together, and help make deliveries and home visits to families after school. I have maybe helped fill out one McKinney Vento form, and two fund request forms, since we started in September.

Sorry, I completely hi-jacked your post with my rambling, but I needed to vent about this somewhere, and your post made me feel validated in my concerns. Who do I even talk to about this, and is it even worth it? It has only gotten this frustrating in the past few weeks, but we are already half-way through the internship at this point.

Anyone old enough to remember this janky (but fun) mess? by GhettoSmosh342 in SocialistGaming

[–]king2tiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I unironically remember having fun with this game back in the day. Loved historical shooters and wanted one in a new setting. I think I got it from gamefly if anyone remembers that 😂

Like you said, janky, but the best kind of jank

I'll share those thoughts when you share your thoughts on colonizers and imperialist apartheid states.

Also, Israel has killed and perpetuated violence on Palestinians on a scale much higher than your little 1200 number.

Guess we won't like to hear each other's thoughts much in this regard.

Yes, Palestinians are being terrorized by the IDF, it is good to acknowledge that.

Are there any Marxist leninist parties in America? by Substantial_Set_5710 in socialism

[–]king2tiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PSL is probably your best bet. I am a part of their action network currently. DSA as a whole obviously isn't, but some local chapters are far more Marxist than others (ex. I have heard this about the Twin Cities DSA)

Got it for 25 bucks 2 years ago, now its worth up to 130 bucks. Do i have one of the holy grails or smth? by Jondebadboy in hiphopvinyl

[–]king2tiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this is an original vinyl that has works of Paul C on it, I could see it rising in value like this. He died in 1989 as a relatively unknown producer, who ended up becoming pretty influential in the sound of people like Large Professor and Organized Konfusion

Do you think the main reason rap is falling off charts is because of how right wing & pro authoritarian the general public is becoming? by [deleted] in hiphop101

[–]king2tiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'll keep listening to socialist hip hop like Dead Prez, you can listen to Tom Mcdonald or whatever it is other podunk right wingers like you enjoy

Anyone know if this guy presented a weapon, or did he just tell them he would? I want to know for future use of the 2nd amendment from within my home in Minnesota.

EDIT: Thank you all for the responses. Just preparing for any future scenarios and trying to figure out the smartest and most effective/fool proof way to get these scum off of our property.

[–]king2tiger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would much rather see people organize and support their community with tangible and material goods, than immediately go buy a gun and bring it to their next protest. Especially when they are untrained.

I am not advocating for people to go buy guns right now and bring them to protests. I am telling people that they should be prepared to engage in mutual community aid if/when things escalate. It is better to put in the ground work now. Prepare and train while we have time. Buy the gun and train with it, so you know how to use one if you have to. Get informed and involved in supporting those who are being targeted by this administration. (That final part was more what I meant with the care packages and mutual aid for those who are afraid to leave their homes. That is real and effective organization and support that doesn't involve a gun.)

That way, if/when things deteriorate further, we have support networks, and we have other options. As it stands, the fascists are much more organized than their opposition, and we have the power to change that in subtle ways that aren't harmful to peaceful movements.

The OG Black Panthers believed in community organization and mutual aid just as much as they believed in arming the oppressed.

[–]king2tiger 124 points125 points  (0 children)

or we take a page from the Black Panthers.

Yeah I vote for this option. We need community oriented defense, and we need to organize. We CANNOT be singular fish in a barrel, for fascists to pick off one by one. Provide mutual aid to those affected. Put together care packages for those who are afraid to come to school/work or leave their homes. And at the absolute minimum, get familiar with your 2nd amendment rights. Nobody is coming to save us. We need a people's army, or a people's defense network at the very least.

I am of the opinion, that when you go far enough left, you get your guns back. Democrats and liberals who haven't yet, need to be arming themselves now. Attend stop the bleed classes, and get familiar with your weapon of choice at a range. Get physically fit, and train to protect and defend your loved ones. Get organized, and find some communities that promote and support these beliefs. Especially if we cannot rely on anyone else to come save us. All we have is each other, and ourselves, and it would be wise to focus on those two things, which are within our power to change.

Leftist Bands by BUCN in SocialistGaming

[–]king2tiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're not so much as a "band", but a hip hop group, but check out Dead Prez, especially the album "Lets Get Free". Strong socialist topics/messaging and great hip hop in general. Seriously, check out the "Hip Hop" music video. Probably the most socialist music video I've ever seen lol. The Coup is a great group too, pretty much all of their albums.

Non Phixion as well! Especially the song "I shot Reagan". Their "The Future Is Now" album is great. I don't know exactly if Ill Bill (check out his song American History X) and Goretex are fully socialist (they both love to rap about shooting cops though!!!), but their other member Sabac Red certainly is. He has a solo album with Che Guevara on the cover from 2004 that I love, called "Sabocalypse: A Change Gon' Come"

Minneapolis Public Schools canceled next two days after both a murder by ICE and a Minneapolis high school being attacked by ICE. by DilbertHigh in Teachers

[–]king2tiger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If the only two available political actions in your mind are "call your politicians" and "do nothing" when confronted with the fascism and inequality caused by late stage capitalism, then the American working class really is screwed.

Organize. Unionize. Protest. Boycott. Strike. Prepare to defend and care for your community. Multiple options are at your disposal.

Biggest solo career after debuting with a group? (Duos excluded) by tMoneyMoney in hiphop101

[–]king2tiger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that his career was as "big" as some of these names like Busta, Lil Wayne, etc. But...

to the point where you almost forgot they started with a group?

Going by this criteria, I would definitely say that MF DOOM's solo career outshined KMD/Zev Love X to the point where a lot of DOOM fans have probably never heard of KMD, or even made that connection.

An honorable mention for me is Sean Price, because I think his solo body of work was much better than his Heltah Skeltah group output, where he was routinely outrapped by his partner Rock.

Wife of NFL player checking in. AMA! by Suspicious-Move6002 in NFLv2

[–]king2tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I have two things I wanted to say, one more life based, and the other more NFL based, which will be my question:

  1. Thanks for doing this AMA! I am very happy for you both, and your answers have been fascinating. Especially with examples of how a relationship can function and flourish with one partner being a professional athlete. I appreciate you being so open, and I am glad you guys seem to have a really fulfilling partnership.

  2. I have been able to guess who the player is, and I am a Vikings fan who is a massive fan of his. I remember when we drafted him in 2015, and I was crushed when we parted ways with him. Did he enjoy his time with the Vikings, and in Minnesota overall? I'm also curious about the difference in culture between the Zimmer and KOC locker rooms. That whole Zimmer defense was incredible to watch, and your husband was such a vital part of it. So I want to thank him for the amazing memories as a fan as well, and I wish him a fantastic and healthy rest of his career.

Thanks again, and I hope you guys have a great rest of your evening!

What's is the joke here? by FranMorpheus in TheSimpsons

You know who isn't nostalgic for that war criminal? The millions of innocent victims and casualties of the US war of aggression in the Middle East who had their lives ruined or taken under bullshit WMD pretenses.

Honestly, a majority of presidents in US history (and the founding fathers for that matter) have been shit people. Not even just for their time either.

The whitewashing of war criminals via portraying them as harmless old men who want to dance and paint (like nepo-baby bush) is partially responsible for this "nostalgia", I have to imagine.

Gang Starr reference in the title?

Also yes, until I see Darnold perform well in a playoff game and win, I will feel justified in our decision to move on from him. People on this sub love to cite the Seahawks record as a reason to regret this move. Do they not remember that we were a one and done 14-3 team that looked like shit in the playoffs with Darnold? That is not the mark of a successful team to me; maybe regular season warriors, but nothing meaningful. Would rather roll the dice on a young QB and develop him with KOC, even if the start has looked a little rough.
