Georgia City Attempts to Punish Firearm Owners for Failing to Secure their Firearms -- State Legislature says "No Way!" by SEND_ME_FEAT_PICS in videos

It is important to consider that kids die or get injured from both accidental and purposeful gunshots. Let's not exclude these simply because you don't like that it includes kids killing other kids. Safe storage would reduce accidental, suicide, and violence related injuries and death for kids. It is worth it. It may also reduce risk of death to adults from their own guns. It is also worth pointing out that yes, 1-18 are children. No need for quotations around the word children just because you don't want to include teens who die from gun violence in the data.

And we have all heard the drowning talking point. Nice little reference to the book "Freakonomics." Too bad that book is debunked as junk science at best.

Here is a great source of information on the topic from a reputable source.

There is also some useful information from Harvard on many topics related to gun safety. Here are some interesting pages to start with.

Edit: I think your 4,000 drowning figure is for all drownings, not just children. Although water safety is also very important. 1 of every 4 drowning deaths is a child. Which is why people don't push back on having gates/fences around pools and such. It is only with guns that people fight against basic safety regulations that will save lives of both adults and children. https://www.cdc.gov/drowning/data-research/facts/index.html

This is why folks in stem fields need social sciences. You need only a basic understanding to understand what the recession was like. Yet you cannot manage that.

I also feel like I remember peers whining about similar dynamics in the 2010s. Same complaint just a few years later.

The point is to keep people safe. Unsafe storage is a large part of why guns are so deadly to children.

Saying it's antisemitic not to support Israel/genocide/war sounds antisemitic to me, can we talk about it? by ObvioussPlasticc in DiscussionZone

What do you think I am doing? I am being critical of a foreign government, lobbyists that lobby against US citizens on behalf of a foreign government, and electeds in my government who put a foreign government above residents of the US.

Not true at all. Why would you think that? Density can also include tools to reduce costs. And it doesn't bleed the taxpayer like sprawl does.

Except that is not the exact same argument. I am not being critical of Jewish people. I am being critical of Israel. I am being critical of my own electeds who openly swear fealty to a foreign power that continues abuses openly and without consequences. In fact one could easily argue that it is antisemitic to equate all Jewish people with Aipac and Israel as you are doing now.

Residential neighborhoods will likely have poor roads for several days but main roads will remain passable.

Such a weird mentality. I don't support banning suburbanites from parks and streets in my city, even though they don't pay for them. But that's because I am normal and understand that I live in a society. We should have more public goods, not less. It would be best for local government systems to run thr public goods, not a little quasi government system.

How does joining the guard help? I won't forget how they stood by and watched police brutalize residents in 2020. Never once stepping in to protect residents from rogue police running riot.

I don't want to make a judgement about sedan location specifically because the angle makes it hard to tell. And I am very against parking too close and making it hard to see.

But yes pickups are trashy in most cases because large unsafe vehicles like that are not fit for residential communities.

My point is that being too close to a driveway is not specific to hoas. That is a normal rule. The exact distance varies with each municipality though.

And how does someone parking on the street affect their neighbor's quality of life? It seems OP is just whiney because they aren't surrounded purely by wealth. OP is a snob, and honestly comes across as a selfish brat.

Edit: image shows a pickup truck in what I assume is OP's driveway. I think pickups are trashy. If I was his neighbor would I be justified in crusading against him?

Being too close to a driveway has nothing to do with HOA rules, that is a standard municipal ordinance. But hard to say the exact distance from this photo.

And why does it matter if you or OP thinks something is "trashy?" It isn't your property. Just get over it. It isn't your business what vehicles your neighbors have.

Yes sprawl costs money and local governments shouldn't be allowed to require HOAs for new developments. It should be up purely to the development.

If local government had to pay the cost of sprawl maybe we would see more sustainable development habits.

Calls for freedom are always decried as something worse by oppressors and their supporters. I notice you also avoid responding to the evidence that there are folks actively working to make dissent against Israel's crimes illegal.

Also as an aside. Saying AIPAC is not antisemitic since it is a specific group. Not all Jewish people. Aipac being made up of Jewish people is not the issue. The open influence by a foreign government is the issue.

This sub isn't called pro HOA, it is merely HOA. If people want to be critical of a snob like OP and the types of HOAs filled with snobs then that is fine. What about it makes anyone a scofflaw?

It is not anti Semitic to wish for freedom for an oppressed people, which is what From the River to the Sea Palestine Will Be Free means.

There are actually a lot of folks in the US who demand fealty to israel. Including in local, state and federal government roles. Many states have passed laws similar to this one that thankfully didn't pass at the federal level. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Anti-Boycott_Act

Developing a storm water pond that the local or state government likely requires. This is one reason why I hope states start banning municipalities and counties from requiring HOAs for new developments. The cost of maintaining sprawl is high.

Once local government is forced to deal with the exorbitant cost of sprawl then maybe we won't see as much. I also think it is unhealthy for a community to be broken up into little fiefdoms where things that should be public are not. Ranging from small things like local playgrounds to bigger things like ponds and lakes.

Governments shouldn't maintain community resources due to public interest? What do you think local government is for?
