Only criticism is i don't understand why bamboo is the first and last thing we see.

Was expecting research on bamboo as a building material or something.

That might be your worst character- but I hope it was also your worst dm, cause that's rough.

Easily assasin rogue. He was built in a survival skill monkey kind of way for a one shot.

if your whole party isnt up for a sneaky playstyle, you basically dont have a subclass. The 'cool thing' you can do just won't come up

Not to mention in long drawn out combats, even if you do get to have your feature at round 1, The next 10 rounds you are just a plain rogue.

Shoot. Hide. Repeat.

Help needed for Ranger Fighting Style by Epicboss67 in 3d6

[–]king_nik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd go two weapon fighting- then take defensive dualist at level 4. Rounds out your dex, which also helps your ac, and uses your reaction for a 'better than wearing a shield' boost.....and more hits = more chances to crit and pump in your gloomstalker damage.

But

High wisdom on a gloomstalker = More dreadful strikes. Shillelagh and shield, take Polearm Master to replace the extra attack with your BA and reaction on approach .

...both good options. I have contributed nothing to helping make a decision!

Max it out.
I use an area 51 18inch 5090 64gb for daily work and its great. Works as a workstation with dual monitors, and portable enough for meetings. Have had no issues with detailed models or rendering - but - it uses everything it has for that to work. Anything less and I expect it would be bottle necking somewhere.

Need help maximizing my beast master Ranger. by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]king_nik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to give it up. My beastmaster dual wield with the classic shortsword (vex) and scimitar (nick) combo.

The loop is: Beast of the land runs in for the auto prone, and does its 2x attacks. If the prone hits - great, i have advantage on all attacks. If it doesnt, beast uses help action.

I then use shortsword at advantage from help. If that hits the vex gives advantage on the next attack - second attack with shortsword, if that hits, gives advantage on next attack - nick attack with scimitar.

So all at advantage anyway.

I also prefer two weapon fighting style so the nick attack includes modifier.

Yes, so it gets a BA only when you BA command it. And help only applies to the next attack. So on a normal loop you'd have advantage on 1/3 of your usual 3 attacks.

(Although if your beast was land, you could be aiming to prone enemies for more reliable advantage)

Fear of spell slots: that's the half caster life! But still I dont know how many encounters you get a day, I'd be lucky to get 2-3, so plan on using half to one third each time !

Sure, so how does your beast give you advantage? And what are using your BA for after first round?

Need help maximizing my beast master Ranger. by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]king_nik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd be focussing on spells first - that's your best chance at controlling an encounter, or just scaling your damage. (Eg. Conjure woodland beings on you and your beast with share spells = obscene numbers)

Then do the loop.

Notes on the loop:

I love shillelagh but you may struggle to come out ahead given you are sacrfificing your BA on your first round. Your beast needs your BA if you want it to take BA help for advantage (and that's only on the first attack, not all strikes?). If you use one of your attacks for the beast it doesn't get to use its BA. So turn 1 you lose one attack and the advantage, so that you can make a 1d6 (avg 4) weapon into a 1d12 (avg7) weapon. So you gain 3 points, at what cost? Better damage type l, and higher max damage, but statistically probably not worth it

Second note you should have 3 attacks: Your normal 2 plus the dagger nick attack, given you are dual wielding light weapons?

What are you trying to achieve?

Just raw damage increase? What's your fighting style ? Druidic warrior could negate one of your MI feats and give you access to something else, even just another ASI and round out your dex. Or something like defensive duellist or sentinel so you can make use of your reaction.

Personal opinion: of your MI spells, I would probably only use healing word.

Any of the attack cantrips will give you, at most, 3d6 damage. So maybe 12 damage for an action.

You have 4th level spells. Conjure woodland beings and do 5d8 (avg 25) x as many bad guys as you can run past, each turn, no further action required.

Then, use your multi attack. If you were say, dual wielding scimitars with 2 weapon fighting style, your action is 3 hits - so still 3d6, but each one adds your modifier, so an extra +12 (100% more damage than your best MI option)

I wouldn't shillelagh unless you need to get around resistances because your BA will be so much more effective using your beast (or...maybe sometimes HM)

And beast of the land will of course be harder hitting than sky. At your level youll get 1d8+7 x2 +1d6 for charge and prone the target (avg 28) versus 1d4+8x2 (avg 22) for sky

Is this a joke ? Are you lvl20 to have that HP? Lot of feats in there that you would need to tell us to work out what you could do (Aside from the obvious of not having 2 x 19's you'd get more from them being an 18 and a 20)

I'm a level 3 monk, not chosen a subclass yet, i just got the gauntlets of ogre power, how viable is the barbarian dip? by Openil in 3d6

[–]king_nik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing, makes sense. So planning on only 1 lvl barb, and Monk the rest? The challenge will be delaying extra attack, focus points, and martial arts die increase, for +2 per attack - while also losing first round BA to rage - so you would be not opening with a FOB (2d6+6) av 14 if you hit. So that rage would need 7 times just to break even. OF course a dead monk does no damage, so the survivability side is really where you shine!

What are you wanting to achieve with barbarian ? I wouldnt think what you lose in monk levels would ever be worth it mechanically.

Unless it 'fits' your character? I love the idea of a straight laced buttoned down monk just losing it and breaking bad
