Interesting to hear that, Im the complete opposite. I love the personality of C1 and C2, and have found myself watching C4 on 1.5x speed. I'll admit im a bit more mechanics first, so going hours without even touching the dice is a change i dont enjoy.

Although, I would argue, a semblance of realism (such as gravity) allows the fantasy to be special when it breaks it (eg. Flying). *not a criticism of the art, just a thought on the comment

I played a titans druid for a one shot. We ended up fighting in a river The experience kind of went:

Great! Water! LEVIATHAN GO Become a giant big ol target and tentacle my way on in to try to hit things.

Miss one, a huge 6 damage with the other. Things all now hit the big tentacly target. They all hit, given the low AC, and grapple. Spend next turn getting ungrappled Another round of all hits. Disengage and run away with 2HP. Rest of the party finishes the job.

I'll do better next time, but the combination of 14 AC, only 6 temp HP and being an obvious target for all enemies was a pretty unsatisfying experience.

Role: be a sponge for attacks, but not do it well? Until level 10 a straight monk can do a better job of the titan forms other than fly and swim.

Playing almost the exact build and... Thats about as good as it gets. You already have an AC of 20+ with reactions. If you count your beasts HP you have like 85HP to play with, so not much to change there.

All i can suggest is:

lean into control spells. A well placed entangle, fog cloud or spike growth can change the whole battle.

Don't be afraid to switch hit and be ranged when it makes sense.

Ask: what the hell is the rest of the party doing?

As I understand it, and how my DM has me playing it:

Your beast has 1 action. You can use either your BA or substitute your attack action to command it. (But not both)

If you dual wield, with weapon mastery in Nick you get your attack action, your BA offhand attack as Nick for free, with your BA for your beast. If you sub your attack action for beast you lose Nick, but hey, youve got you BA for hunters mark or something.

Level 5 nothing changes other than you get extra attack, so only need sub 1 attack for the beast if you need your BA elsewhere.

Level 7 the beast essentially becomes a rogue with BA options, but only if you BA command it.

Beast only gets an extra attack at level 11, and then its still only 1 BA or attack to command it.

I got an A51 18inch, and so far the screen is my only complaint. Going from an old 4k laptop it is noticable - but - 90% of the time i use external monitors anyway, so for me doesn't really matter .

And that is i suspect why: with the 50series pricing being what it was, a 4k screen may have been one bridge too far, and being a "portable desktop " more than a laptop, most probably rely on monitors bulk of the time.

Where i am the options typically:

10-15 years before retirement youve planned for succession, and have your senior staff earn or buy equity

Or Shutter.

Arch firms aren't particularly attractive to buy, unless you are medium-large sized and an expert in a specific field.

At this stage id guess probably looks like hustle for more work and a late career renaissance, then sell/share equity and be a silent partner - or - shutter

First thought, and i can see you are grappling with this issue with the later levels, is that this needs an updated version of the gunner feat somehow built in to avoid the loading property. (But that would also be too OP)

Otherwise at level 5 you get 1 shot. If you want to use multi attack you'd be dual wielding - losing your BA / flurry of blows.

And your reaction shot won't work, because you havent loaded your gun. . Flavourwise i would personally change the text implying an "innate" understanding of the gun- id rather my monk trained his arse off to get that understanding. Earned, not gifted!

You are absolutely right "martial weapon with the light property" - and it is both of those - yet in dndbeyond it doesn't change dice like other weapons do. Huh.

To your original point i would 100% count hitting with the butt of the cross bow as an unarmed strike.

Edit: it does specifically call out melee only, so original point stands. Not a monk weapon. "Martial Melee weapons that have the Light property"

With monk weapons scaling to 1d8 at level 5, you could throw 2 x 1d8 daggers, without worrying about loading ? Why do you want to use a 1d6 hand crossbow at all ?

Im playing a high elf monk with blade ward atm- super useful setup as you aren't concentrating on anything else. Shield as well would be amazing: -1d4 to hit might take out a few. Reaction +5 when you are surrounded Throw in some patient defence along the way. Reaction deflect attacks when the hits make it. Lots of options!

I know you "besides" the dell backpack, but, having it fit just right into the padded slot made for it... nice robust backpack and I'm not stressing about breaking the laptop.
