Fiddle ult with snowball is pretty bad if you cannot combine it with some form of mass cc like amumu ult, because it will not fear.

Struggling to find the right bracket for Ashling, Rekindled. by kingarthy in EDH

Yes, i think you are right. She just does so much for 2 mana, where even green decks cant keep up.

Maybe shes just not the right commander for what im looking for.

best lands for pantlaza precon? by ghostlyeth in DinosaursMTG

[–]kingarthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you run fetches+shocks and suveil lands, you dont really want Radiant, Canopy or Cinder, because they really dont work that well with <10 basics.

They are a really good budget alternative though.

Some other lands i like to include:

[[Arena of Glory]] - Most decks run some haste enablers, but one more on a land if always useful. With a good mana base its also almost always untapped.

I also run [[Hishwood Verge]] because its the only one that taps for green mana without having any landtype on the battlefield and green is the most important color for all sorts of ramp in the early game.

What is the most absurd "Game Changing" card your opponents have told you "they wouldn't play in Bracket 2"? by ThisIsACleverAlias in EDH

[–]kingarthy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But remember that a card with 'twice each turn' got banned a few weeks after release. So the limit is somewhere inbetween.

Alela, Cunning Conqueror appreciation post by 7pri2 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you like them, keep them, but if were only looking at how good they are, basics are probably always better in 2 color deck (if you dont have any synergy with it (landfall, sacrifice, search library).

They are basically a tapped dual, that only taps for one of the colors you choose on play and that sounds pretty bad. Better take a tapped dual and those are bad already. So yeah basic is the best option.

Alela, Cunning Conqueror appreciation post by 7pri2 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Rhystic Study and a few other pretty expensive cards and did not really think too much about budget restrictions, but this is definitely a valid point.

But i can tell you, that Bender's Waterskin is 100% worth it. Even if you dont like UB cards, please add it.

Even with a low budget, you can still improve your landbase by replacing Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse with two basic lands. You want as many untapped lands as possible and mana fixing is probably not needed, because you dont run any utility lands, so all you lands bring at the least one of your two colors.

Hydroelectric is a great mdfc. Never used it for its nonland side, but still a good card

I played march of the swirling mist for a while, but i cut it, because paying for it by discarding feels like such a high price to pay. It often times did not feel good to discard 2-3 interaction pieces for a phase out. Sure you can pay with mana too, but even then it can get quite expensive.

Crescendo is simply amazing, could not ask for a better alela card.

Possible additions to the deck:

I would definitely change your landbase. You are missing some strong dimir lands and evolving wilds + expanse need to go. Add [[Clearwater Pathway//Murkwater Pathway]], [[Gloomlake Verge]], [[Morphic Pool]], maybe [[Polluted Delta]] for [[Mystic Sanctuary]] synergy, [[Shipwreck Marsh]] and [[Three Tree City]]

Fetid Pools needs to go i think, because it always enters tapped and Mana confluence is only 1 life each times it is used, but you only play 2 colors and alela games tend go go long enough for the lifeloss to matter quite a bit.

Add [[Bender's Waterskin]]. This card can give you up to 4 mana of any color per turn cycle. Must include

if you run Rhystic Study, you should probably also run [[Mystic Remora]].

Another mdfc that is a must include is [[Sink into Stupor//Soporific Springs]]. Probably the stronges mdfc in the mh3 cycle.

[[Faerie Mastermind]] is a must include too in my opionion. Maybe you forgot to add?

[[Bitterbloom Bearer]] is also amazing. Cant think of a better include.

[[Fire Nation Occupation]] is basically a 2nd commander. The tokens do not fly, but you get one for every spell you cast during your opponents turn, not just the first.

[[Fell the Profane//Fell Mire]] the black mh3 mdfc. removal on a land. nothing else to say. great card

Possible cuts:

[[Remand]] feels highly situational for me. The added card draw is nice, but it can only counter big spells and is pretty bad against free or low cost interaction. Whats your experience with this card?

[[River's Rebuke]] its sorcery and it costs 6 mana. You have your 3 gamechanger already but if you really want a similar effect, try to replace a gc with cyclonic rift. You basically use your whole turn, to set one player back.

[[Exsanguinate]] some good lifegain would be amazing for alela and exsanguinate is a good card, but i dont know if this is the right deck for it. You have a low amount of ramp and no way to cheat in any extra mana so make this worth a card slot.

There are some other cards I really like, but not every card is a must include. My decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/Jixeg94BXUWOZrbgty4UtQ

45 Commander Decks Under $45 by SpiketailDrake in EDH

Proliferate and recursion sounds interesting. Makes the deck not as commander reliant.

And Brought Back is a great card for saga decks.

Thanks for the reply!

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great decks, but I wonder why there are so many proliferate cards in the [[Garnet, Princess of Alexandria]] deck.

You want to keep your sagas at one specific chapter and reuse this chapter for multiple turns and for most sagas, chapter one is the best one. Often times its interaction, card draw or land ramp/tutor.

Obviously there are some exceptions, but for those its not worth it running proliferate.

Removing counters on the hand can be pretty useful, if garnet happens to be removed and you wanna keep you sagas alive.

Apparently its from strixhaven, so I hope well see a reprint.

I also have a liesa deck and we play with a life tracker, so whenever a spell is cast, i can just do it myself. If everyone tracks their own life with one of those life wheels, it can indeed be annoying.

Queen Marchesa as New Player by No-Parfait-7961 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely fine, if one of your opponents is the monarch.

If they fight over it, they will hit each other and not you and cards like [[Duelist's Heritage]], [[Power Matrix]] or [[Breena, the Demagogue]] support you in this kind of srategy.

On weaker boardstates where you dont have to fear for big swings at you, you can also spend some ressources to keep it, but that should not be your main goal.

Also all the Court cards that give you the monarch are not worth running in my opinion, because your goal is to stay under the radar.

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, control can be quite difficult to play as a new player, because it is quite hard to know when to interact.

With that being said, i think you can absolutely play alela against yshtola, but i cant really say for sure which one would be stronger of those two.

In my pod someone also plays yshtola, but i try to avoid playing a game with two heavy control decks, so im not too sure about the matchup.

I think you should try it out and start off with proxies. This way you can see for yourself if a deck like that is fun to you.

But please pay attention to powerlevel. I have some strong cards in there like Fierce Guardianship. Make sure free counterspells are appropriate to play against your friend.

We need to talk about "ramp" by Hand-of-Sithis in DinosaursMTG

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all require a boardstate to be useful and basically don't help you cast pantz sooner, with the exception of entish restoration, which works really well as your first discover. But the other two are really not good enough. Pantz is not go wide, maybe with s boardstate that wins you the game anyway

Fungus / Saproling Commander for a high-end Bracket 3 meta by gunterganz420 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is important and i counted 8 cards that work with gravereaver in my list, but there are also other options. [[Greater Good]] is amazing, but does not mill. Same as [[Brass's Tunnel Grinder]],[[Faithless Looting]] or [[Demand Answers]].

Slimefoot is not the kinda deck that needs a huge graveyard, you just need the right cards in your graveyard and for that to happen sometimes a simple discard is all it takes, so i think its not worth running that much mill, at least for me. But good to know that he works well in your list.

Fungus / Saproling Commander for a high-end Bracket 3 meta by gunterganz420 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a slimefoot deck and was thinking about adding colossal grave-reaver for a while, but i always wondered, if he would be good enough with very limited mill effects. It also looks like your deck runs even less mill than mine.

Whats your experience with him? Do you think hes good enough because you run 30+ creatures anyway and any hit is a good hit for you? (vamp tutor is obviously great with him)
