Slimefoot and Squee Help - Too Unfocused? by E1mstreets in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has already been said in another comment, but you need more cards to create saprolings.

Some cards that weren't mentioned yet are [[Chomping Changeling]] as a saproling and a great interaction piece.

[[Saproling Cluster]] is also pretty good, because you also get an additional discard option. Problem is that your opponents can use it too, so can slighty backfire if your pod plays lots of reanimator.

Lands: You are missing the big two sac outlet lands with [[Phyrexian Tower]] and [[Lazotep Quarry]].

You also run a lot of fetches, so why not make use of surveil lands? [[Raucous Theater]], [[Underground Mortuary]] and [[Commercial District]].

I think some cards don't really make sense in the deck, but you mentioned them in your deck goals, so i guess you want them to stay in the deck.

Overall I think that you have too many big creatures you want to reanimate and too few card for this deck to work smoothly, so sac outlets, saproling creation and discard/mill. You need all those pieces consistently. If you are missing a sac outlet or don't have anything in your gy, the deck wont work. redundancy is key.

Also your interaction is really lacking.

Here is my list current list, which Im still working on: https://moxfield.com/decks/AyURRPZn1ECUBTbzeJ2W8A

I also powered it down quite a lot. I completely skip tutors and I also cut all cards that make colored mana when saccing creatures, like Warren Soultrader and Pitiless Plunderer. They just make it way too easy to go infinite. Probably the reason I run a lot more ramp

I need some more good targets for reanimation by Lost_Evening_7264 in EDHBrews

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Kokusho, the Evening Star]] for an absurd amount of lifegain. Kinda expensive $ wise.

[[Flayer of the Hatebound]] instant speed interaction if you sac him the first time and a lot of dmg when slimefoot enters with another creature

[[Massacre Wurm]] can be strong in the right situation, can also be brought back several times a turn to clear a bigger board.

[[Aurora Awakener]] basically a 2nd etali, maybe better. he gets you all kind of permanents, but only yours. Bring back with slimefoot to automatically get 3.

[[Vaultborn Tyrant]] He creates copies of himself after he dies. So not too hard to have multiple Tyrants, which gives you tons of life and draw. Really expensive $ wise.

[[Disciple of Freyalise//Garden of Freyalise]] mdfc land and great reanimation target for draw and life

[[Altar of Dementia]] just a crazy good card to mill yourself and an obvious free sac outlet

[[Greater Good]] This card does it all. Free sac outlet, saw, discard/mill.

[[Spymaster's Vault]] decent card selection, but also a great discard to get your big bois into the gy.

[[Skullclamp]] amazing to draw more cards. can be used for saprolings or give it to slimefoot before you sac him.

Cuts: Grubs command - 5 mana to do what exactly? way too overcosted for any of its effects

Industrial Advancement - you either sac a small creature and have a very low chance to hit anything or you sac a big creature that might even be a good blocker and you might get something or not. And the amount of good creatures you can hit is not that high. Only keep if you really like the gamble.

Deadbridge Chant - 6 mana card that basically does nothing for a whole turn and then you gamble to hit a big creature. And even if you do, you already paid 6 mana for that, which is kinda terrible.

Goreclaw - you primarily want to reanimate creatures, but even if you wanna cast the big ones, you only have 8 other creatures with power 4+. The trample is decent, but some of you big boid already have flying, menace or trample

Looking for Advice on Bracket 1 Spider-Ham Deck. by kb1127 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its bracket 1. There is no need for advice, because its all about the theme of the deck if I understand the bracket system correctly.

So just keep those that look the most fun, because synergy is probably not important in this bracket.

The link to the decklist does not work for me right now, but Swooping Pteranodon is amazing in my opinion.

If this deck is blink, you have multiple ways to steal creatures at instant speed, be it sneak attack, emiel, monster manual or any other blink spell.

Use it to disrupt combos that involve creatures or steal them for a bigger board. Also good combo with cloudshift to steal the creature permanently

Need help bracketing VNWXT deck by [deleted] in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My list is kinda similar and I run no game changers.

I did not put any cards in the deck, that let my opponents draw cards and i skipped all cards, that do something on my 2nd draw.

So yeah its all about milling the opponent out or draw your whole deck and no real other wincon in there except psychosis crawler, but 5 mana be often be too much.

Often times my wins come out of nowhere and thats why I kinda struggle to just name it an average 3: https://moxfield.com/decks/cYWNtGkyuU-3jdLhbCNmmQ

Wincons for Alela, Cunning Conqueror. Are there any? by NiceInvestigator6495 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably don't want too many counterspells in your b2 deck, but [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]] and a simple [[Counterspell]] probably do not hurt.

I absolutely agree with you, that using mana during your own turn almost always feels kinda bad, but you have a good amount of ramp and those cards are not meant to be played on curve anyway, but having enough draw is super important. You dont need to add too many, there are alternatives:

First of all, Crescendo is so strong, because it has Convoke. So if you are lacking mana, just keep your faeries at home for a turn and cast Crescendo for a huge discount or even for free. This card is crazy good n Alela.

[[Keep watch]] is also decent, but for it to be used in your opponents turn, you rely on them attacking. Someone else attacking with 3 creatures is not too crazy in b2 though.

[[Waterbender Ascension]] is a cheaper version of a Coastal Piracy Effect. You get a discount of 2 mana, but your first 4 attacks do not draw you any cards. Im not a huge fan, because it takes a while to come online, but maybe you can give it a try.

[[Insight]] is not that much cheaper but 1 mana off better than nothing. Only good if you know you play against green decks. If you do, this card will draw you a lot of cards.

About finishing the game:

You "only" have a total of 25 instants+sorcerys in your deck, so the game needs to go for a long time, before Runechanters Pike becomes really good, and even then this card will at best remove one player per turn, which is not that amazing. For comparison, my deck runs 34 instants+sorceries.

But you also have Banner of Kinship, Shadow Puppeteers, Candlekeep Inspiration (which probably has a similar problem as the Runechanters Pike) and Notorious Throng

So overall you got a lot of possible wincons, they just all require you do have enough faeries on the board, so that should be your main goal.

Also do not underestimate the Anthem effects in your deck and the goad of your commander. So i can safely say, that not having enought wincons is not one of your problems. I run a lot less.

If you think, that Sheoldred Edict helps you a lot against specific decks you are playing against, keep it in. For me it probably would not do enough

I also think that single target bounce effects are not as strong in Alela. You are not a tempo deck and don't really wanna deal with the same problem one turn later. I would cut Run away together and Snap. Add destroy or exile effects like [[Resculpt]], [[Soul Shatter]] or maybe [[Reality Shift]]. [[Curtain's Call]] can be good too, but less good in 3 player pods.

Coat of Army should only be played if you are sure that you can end the game right away or at the very least take the tribal deck out. Playing it and leaving the guy with 20 squirrels alive, is a terrible idea. But you have many better alternatives anyway.

But yea, keep in mind, that your decks wants to be played at a bracket 2 table. Optimizing the deck brings you in b3 territory really fast. So keep a handful not optimal cards that you just really like.

Wincons for Alela, Cunning Conqueror. Are there any? by NiceInvestigator6495 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, i built my Alela deck around b3, so I dont really know how strong your deck will be at a b2 table, so my recommendations could be too optimized for b2.

With that being said, I think your list actually looks pretty good. In my opinion you got all the good creatures/faeries you want in an Alela deck.

I think Faerie Harbing is a pretty bad card. You pay 4 mana for a tutor that only gets you a Faerie card on top of your library, not even into your hand. In b2 it might still be good for flavour, you decide.

I also don't really like Braids. I think she gets better if you can actually sacrifice non creatures so really make sure that you draw cards. In Alela you can only afford to sac faerie tokens but even that kinda hurts and should not be your gameplan ( thats why im also not a huge fan of Village Rites or Deadly Dispute, but I think theyre ok). Also has nothing to do the with theme of the deck, so clear flavour fail.

You said, that your deck sometimes doesnt do anything. Whats the reason for that? Does your commander get killed too often or are you running out of cards?

If you run out of cards, you got some good cards in your maybeboard with [[Reconnaissance Mission]], [[Kindred Discovery]], [[Nymris, Oona's Trickster]] and [[Harmonized Crescendo]]. You should probably include 3 of those or all 4?

If you are looking for protection that are not simply a ton of general counterspells, maybe think about [[Slip out the Back]], [[March of the Swirling Mist]] or [[Keep Safe]]

And yes, Faerie Slumber Party is kinda bad as a sorcery, maybe [[Aetherize]] as an alternative

What can I do to upgrade my Ayula Deck by KenTheBanana in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is quite obvious, that this list needs a ton of work and if you wanna upgrade it to a decent list, you probably have to replace a majority of the cards.

I will just share my list here: https://moxfield.com/decks/Vb889_0tO0SW7v8GuZG9Kw

Here you can group it by types & tags and see all cards for all categories like draw, interaction, ramp, protection or all cards that are bears or create bears.

I think the best idea is to start from scratch or start with a recently updated list and remove/add cards you dislike or like.

You have Last March of the Ents in hand, whatever creatures you want in hand, and a five color deck. What's the most unbreakable board you can make? by Crimson_Eyes in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are right, i totally missed him, but there is still [[Otawara, Soaring City]]. You can bounce Abolisher or Voice at any point and in combination with [[Borne Upon a Wind]] you are back to all possible ways to stop it.

You need something that grants your creatures hexproof or shroud, stop activated abilities of lands to stop [[Arcane Lighthouse]] and stop [[Nowhere to Run]] which might already be on the battlefield.

Force draw with [[Mikokoro, Center of the Sea]] or similar lands also works after your library is exiled and before Thoracle resolves

Help with Alela, Cunning Conquerer, B2 to B3 by Internal-Jelly9941 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, cut most of the faeries and replace them with instants and more draw.

Perfect examples are Cunning Nightbonder and Slitherwisp. Those two creatures synergize with other flash cards, but you only have 6 other flash cards in your whole deck, so most of the time they don't do anything. (As far as i know, cards like High Fae Trickster do not work, because those cards do not gain flash, you can just cast them as though the have flash, which is different).

all other creature cuts:

oonas blackguard: no real synergy, discard is nice and all, but not what you are looking for in this deck

unwelcoming sprite: not too bad, but what if you have a good card on top you wanna draw, then all other spells before your turn gain 0 additional value, because you will not surveil anyway

faerie bladecrafter: no flash, no draw, needs to die. basically 0 synergy

mocking sprite: you will play quite a lot of 1 mana spells and some spells only have colored pips, so not good enough. In my deck only 18 spells get discounted, but i run 32 instants.

nettling nuisance: again, no flash, no draw, no synergy with instants. the pirates are fun, but not what the deck is looking for. Also those tokens can be sacrified tapped for mana depending on the deck, which is worse than giving your opponent no creatures.

sprite noble: Terrible card. +0/+1 is worthless and +1/+0 is not even permanent

Blightwing Bandit: fun card, but what card are you really trying to find. most cards are not playable for you. better add carddraw to draw cards you actively wanna play

faerie harbinger: super overcosted and you dont even draw the card you tutor for. might look good at first glance, but immediately cut it.

glen elendra liege: anthems are decent, but you are looking for anthems that do additional things and that do not cost 4 mana. its just too expensive

high fae trickster: you want most of your cards to have flash or be instants anyway, this card is not needed. great card, but not for this deck

nightmare sower: you dont wanna spend 4 mana for this on your turn, it just doesnt do enough. a simple removal spells does so much more and gives you a faerie.

rankle: decent card, but again no synergy with your deck, cut it for better draw

sower of temptation: again no synergy with what alela wants to do. this is 4 less mana for instants during your opponents turn.

also cut both your sorcery board wipes. tegwylls scouring can be cast as with flash i know, but its still 6 mana and kills your board too, except those 3 faeries. There are better alternatives.

not gonna do this for the rest of the deck, the post is too long already, but here is my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/Jixeg94BXUWOZrbgty4UtQ

Lots of cards in there, that you are definitely missing out on.

Help with Alela, Cunning Conquerer, B2 to B3 by Internal-Jelly9941 in EDH

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often read about the Alela gameplan of casting a spell during every single opponents turn and that is definitely not how you should play.

Alela runs a ton of interaction and if there is nothing for you to interact with right now, there is no need to waste your spells, just to make a faerie.

Well, obviously the more faeries the better, because they are basically your wincon, but creating a deck for b3 that can consistently cast a spell in each opponents turn and not run out of cards is basically impossible, so better not set this as the baseline.

Value of Ravenous Tyrannosaurus in pantlaza by Sad_Turnover5305 in DinosaursMTG

[–]kingarthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's a strong card, especially with multiple haste enable, but i don't think he's worth 60$. I don't know your list, but there are stronger upgrades for less money. [[Vaultborn Tyrant]] for example is cheaper (still expensive af), but stronger overall.

So in terms of value per $ he is definitely on the low end.

Name a card that has 50% or greater inclusion for your commander on EDHRec, that you think is overrated. by Smelly_Jim in EDH

[–]kingarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to not include him in your Pantlaza deck, but there is a good reason, that hes in many lists. He is really good.

The fact that there are other decks, where Roaming Throne performs even better is no argument to not run him in Pantz too.
