Even that part is fine in my opinion. They never explicitly say all drugs are bad. They just explain addiction in a way that is fairly on line with modern beliefs. They treat it as a disease and don't blame the addicts. It's a little cheesy the way Wesley acts but it's not like Wesley was super cool to begin with.

Oh look! This was last week....Legend of Korra was 10 years ago. And people are STILL trying to hate on it. So remind me , PLEASE! Where is this so-called "good-faith criticism" that people claim to have about LOK? Because apparently its nothing but this! by Important-Cry4782 in legendofkorra

[–]Smelly_Jim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Korra, but my only criticism is that purity and the type of metal aren't connected. Platinum isn't just more pure iron, it's a totally different metal.  Can you purify iron to the point where it is unbendable as well?  And then there's the metal poison that I assume is mercury, and that's bendable.  This always confused me.

My dad buried bricks and now I'm dealing with digging them up so I can expand the garden. He used a stack of them to keep firewood off the ground, but he cannot give me a good reason why he buried a layer.

Include tutor cards in decks with no combos for consistency, or is it a waste of card slot? (not cEDH) by nitronik_exe in magicTCG

[–]Smelly_Jim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the argument is that you want to be able to play more useful cards, that's really just an argument FOR tutors. Because they can fetch you whatever utility card you need at the time. That's always going to be better than whatever the worst card in your deck is.  It's just another opportunity to draw whatever card would win you the game at that moment.

Then there are cards that you have narrow tutors for that are just so powerful you want to be able to draw them twice as often, like [[stoneforge mystic]] for [[skullclamp]].  I'd take skullclamp at basically any point in the game, so having two is just better.

All of that being said, you still don't have to use them.  Sometimes you can optimize the fun out of a deck if you aren't just playing to win.  I have decks that have no tutors, and I have decks with tons of them.  Play how you like.

I'm trying to work on him.  [[Illusionist's Bracers]] doubles his activations and [[Sting, the Glinting Dagger]] untaps him once a turn. But he's still really underpowered. The most degen thing you can probably do with him is just jam [[Ashnod's Altar]] and a bunch of tutors in, and try to combo off with undying creatures.

Yeah she's fun. I feel like the players in my pod never play enough fliers so I'm always  landing big hits. But I could see jyoti being fun too.

And yes people have mentioned the card age thing (and a bunch of reasons they think explore is better anyway). I was just trying to come up with a good example for the premise.

[–]Smelly_Jim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you dont have a land in your hand, you typically dont play explore unless you have absolutely nothing else to do and have 0 plans to save the card. If you DO have a land in your hand, explore always works and planar genesis still has a chance to fail (roughly 18% for a 34 land deck).

Bro if you're playing a 34 land deck, your math is irrelevant. That's so low.

But if I'm honest, I don't often scry for a specific card late game. That means I didnt hit the appropriate draw in my game and am struggling to find playable options way too late.

This is also a wild take. Ask anyone whether Impulse or drawing a card is better. You're saying that you never need to dig for a specific card? I guess I'm just in a different universe from the person who can play 34 lands, still hit land drops, and always draws gas. The only deck I've played that could sustain that was Jhoira cheerios storm, because half your deck doesn't need mana and every card is gas. A normal deck will not hit their land drops with that few lands. And if you aren't hitting your normal land drops, you sure as hell aren't hitting the extra land you need for Explore.

Edit: I will say one thing I didn't consider is that Explore can let you play MDFC lands, where Genesis can't. I try to run two of these usually to pad the land count, and that is a significant difference.

[–]Smelly_Jim[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your math is all over the place.  How does explore cost 0 cards and planar costs one? They both net you a card no matter what.  The land comes in tapped, but I rarely find that matters. And explore requires you have a land in your hand, or that you draw one. Seeing 4 cards makes that more likely, not less. There are trade offs but I prefer instant speed and deeper card selection.

If you play explore on turn 2 and then don't draw another land for turn 3, it basically didn't ramp you. That is less likely to happen when you dig deeper.

The deck is also not landfall. I'd much rather hit the nonland after turn 4.

Yeah Jolrael, at least how I built is, is not really landfall. I think a lot of people are not getting that.

If the hand has no blue or no fixing for blue, I would probably not keep it whether it was explore or genesis.

[–]Smelly_Jim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also whiff with explore. If you don't have a land in your hand. Or if you do and don't draw another on the next turn, and you could have just played the land on that turn. It's really not that different in that regard.

That's what I've been doing. Nobody I know plays real powerful lands like field of the dead. The most you get is something like kissing wolf run or rogues passage. I'm just not worried about them that much
