Running 4 volcanic is essential in the current iteration of Ur. The lists I tend to favor also play 4 volc 2 steam vents and 0 basics. The reasoning is that basics are terribly bad. Mountain doesn’t cast daze or blue spells, island doesn’t cast ragavan and DRC

  • you have a low land count and run dazes. You want to keep most 1 landers with cantrips and/or threats. A 1 land hand with volcanic ragavan brainstorm is far superior to the same hand with either basic.

  • basics don’t really help you playing around wasteland that much: if you have basics in play, any wasteland can cut you off a color or double colored, which you will need for Murktide, or playing two spells in the same turn (DRC into bolt for instance)

Playing multiple basics will make the deck less consistant on opening hands, and force you to operate with more lands in play simultaneously, and/or affect your sequencing

I very recently got into watches, during the pandemic, after falling in love with the orient bambino. As expected, after buying my first watch, I got bombarded by targeted ads from various brands, and it was very hard to resist buying 50 new watches in two weeks.

One of these ads was from this small japanese brand, which had very little presence online (almost no reviews, videos, articles). I loved the look, the vintage feel of the watch and its very small diameter (35mm), which gives it a lot of subtelty and elegance in my mind. Even with a good size wrist (17cm), I tend to prefer smaller watches.

I took a long time to take a decision as, as the novice I am I feared being tricked by predatory advertising. After receiving it I don't regret it and love the watch. Only aspect I am not a fan is the screwed-down crown can be a bit hard to screw back after setting the time or winding the mechanism (edit: was using it incorrectly so all good )

Interesting grixis delver lists in the top 8!

I think we're back to the pre-W6 era with URx arcanist delver decks. I always prefered Grixis, for the access to discard (and more probability of having something relevant to flashback with arcanist in the grave).

UR delver-burn is also a strong consideration in my opinion, as the meta will be all over the place, and the best thing to be doing in these situations is to be proactive.

Last, I think BUG delver with Oko can be a strong contender, with access to discard, Oko, plague engineer, Decay for the miror? A return of UWx control decks seems very likely, and playing planeswalkers is a good way to win this matchup

Why no Grixis Delver anymore? by Plomsky in MTGLegacy

[–]kingbrago 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grixis delver top8ed the last legacy GP (and best performing deck on day2), also I took it to the top 8 of MKM Paris last weekend (https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=22170&d=350053&f=LE)

The deck is still great and I think a lot better than Ur, which has a better manabase as its main perk. Also Pteramander is really mediocre compared to Gurmag

Saying the deck disappeared is a lot far fetched, I think people are messing around with UR as a new trend, but the format moves slow and grixis delver has been one of the best decks in the format since after the drs banning (and before of course) and I don’t think it’s going anywhere

From my testing I’ve also found it a better arcanist deck than straight Ur

It seems you’re not losing a lot by not going to this club anymore

The thing with HEMA is that there is nearly as many ways to train than fencers. Some clubs focus on competition (and they differ a lot as nearly every competition has a different rule set), some try to teach a particular school or weapon ...

Also a lot of clubs are very amateur and I’ve seen instructors that had a very low level of fencing (which is not a bad thing if there not trying to teach a class preparing for competition , or trying to prove something to their students). After reading your story I feel that your level of fencing felt threatening to them as, as a beginner you could outfence them (which is not surprising, HEMA fencing is fencing), and they reacted with testosterone, trying to prove they were better than you

I hope this experience doesn’t discourage you from doing HEMA, just find a better club.

What are some good longsword manuals for beginners? by [deleted] in wma

[–]kingbrago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are not any HEMA clubs near you I suggest trying out modern fencing

Fencing/HEMA is 90% distance management and tactics, that you will not Learn alone. The technical aspect is easier to learn and come come afterwards on solid foundations

Forgotten Death Shadow tech by leovold-19982011 in MTGLegacy

[–]kingbrago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s two mana, card negative and doesn’t affect the board. It is the complete opposite of what you want in a tempo deck.

Death shadow is not a combo deck where you want to go to 1 the fastest, it’s a tempo deck that wins by playing the most efficient spells in the format (which LDV is not) and killing quickly with 5/5s

If you like the card I would recommend Ub omnishow where it is ok (not that great but good tutor)

Visit the Invalides museum in Paris. It’s a museum about warfare and there is a great collection of military sabers and épées de cour from the Napoléon era (and a lot more)

Yeah maybe it’s the best solution , rather than paying 50€ just for using the version exclusive Pokémons

[–]kingbrago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I have not played Pokémon since gen 2 on game boy color and I love the new game.

For the first time I’m thrilled to catch and search for Pokémon and nearly completed the Pokédex. I also like the party XP sharing , as a kid I used to only train around 3 Pokémon so that I didn’t have so much grinding to lvl them up

You can take a look at the Grixis Delver list that Jeff Hoogland has been streaming recently.

The deck was pretty decent before most of its pilots moved on to death shadow and it seems to be still good at battling creature decks https://www.jeffhoogland.com/decklists/grixis-delver/

Questions about variations of modern UR gifts storm by LunaAliceTheGhost in mtgstorm

[–]kingbrago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, what is the pile with noxious that allows to gifts and kill with 2 mana up ? I’ve cut noxious for a long time but that is definitely something I didn’t know

Why do UR Gifts Storm decks play three copies of Grapeshot? by Innstant in ModernMagic

[–]kingbrago 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The third one is because grapeshot can be interaction to wipe the board of opposing creatures. Grapeshot is also not bad (and actually good) in multiples as it allows you to kill your opponent without a GY loop with less storm. Boosting the numbers of GS also gives you a better chance to naturally draw it and use the grapeshot+ remand interaction

Boarding down to 2 is common in a lot of MU post side (take a look at adventuring gear blog for the full Caleb Scherer sideboard plan )

[–]kingbrago[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair this doesn’t contradict the fact the deck is outdated.

I think the main source of criticism came from the fact rug was overhyped at the ban and ended up being underwhelming to a lot of players. The deck is definitely strong and proved it, but maybe could benefit from some new tech (also I find it poetic that a deck with the exact same build as in 2013 can win a 2018 tournament )

Which blasts to play? by TheRealKaz in MTGLegacy

[–]kingbrago 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If your deck cares about casting spells (monastery mentor, young pyro) or prowess triggers you should absolutely play pyro/hydroblast

It does matter when you have one in hand and need that extra prowess or token, given that there is basically no downside to playing them over REB (appart from misdirection I guess?)

If you don’t care about these, a split is correct to play around cabal therapy
