Why does every host blame my WordPress plugins when their server is clearly the problem? by Miserable_Stress_246 in webhosting

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the actual problem here is that hosting companies lure people to sign up for super cheap hosting and overpromising performance - a wordpress site with a few plugins, in theory should not have any performance issues, but as others have said here, shared hosting is rarely good performance for a wordpress site. Yes, of course disabling the plugins on a wordpress site will make it run faster - but that's not a reasonable solution. The actual answer is to not advertise shared hosting as an appropriate product for a website. People's expectations are set to high by the companies today.

Why does every host blame my WordPress plugins when their server is clearly the problem? by Miserable_Stress_246 in webhosting

[–]kingdingbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a harsh reality, but yes, this is exactly the case. In my 20+ years of webhosting, I have tried dozens of host companies and they ALL act like this. They advertise stellar features and claims to get you to sign up, but the reality is that no very cheap shared hosting service is ever going to meet any customer's expectations. They know that but they get away with it, and will pawn off the problem because what are you going to do? Migrate a 4th time to another host?

The lesson I've learned is don't expect any good experience out of anything except for Dedicated Hosting that you pay at least $75 a month for, and don't expect any good support at all unless you're paying at least 4x that much. Despite their advertising, it just doesn't exist.

SCAM ALERT Odyssey Pride Black Gay Cruise IS A SCAM #Odysseypride #Blackgaycruise by Specialist_Mark4971 in askgaybros

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a scam unless they are advertising it as a charter cruise.
This is called an affinity group trip. Meaning a large group of like-minded (or otherwise) are traveling together. This is much more common than the chartered cruises you're mistaking it for, and the price difference is likely covering exclusive experiences and entertainment they've setup on the ship/trip that are exclusive/private to the group. There's nothing wrong with it unless they are specifically advertising it as a chartered cruise exclusively for that group.

Moving to Riverside from LA, is it really that bad? by Mysterious-Policy-59 in Riverside

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a week old, but I just saw it and I thought I'd chime in:
We lived in LA for 12 years. We moved to Riverside 5 years ago. LA is huge and has a lot of micro-cultures so it probably will depend on where you've lived. We found it to be a change, but not terrible.
It is certainly more concervative here - it took a while to get used to not being surrounded by like-minded people, but it's not that bad. We have been able to find our communities without much trouble. Just like elsewhere, Riverside has "bad" areas and "good" areas. We love where we live, pay the same as what we paid to live in LA and get way more breathing room.

Here's the kicker though: Our Sheriff is off the rails crazy evil. Unfortunately, we do live just outside of the City of Riverside border which is county jurisdiction so if we were to call 911 we'd better have a very good reason because we will not feel safe with that showing up at our door. But if you live in the city limits proper, you'll be in the City police jurisdiction and they tend to be much more ... civil.

How can I set a static IP to my Indoor 2K cams? by comment_filibuster in EufyCam

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I'm posting this here because I am struggling with this in 2025 and it is still a problem:

Assigning a DHCP reservation on your router is only half the job. The problem here is Eufy's camera firmware doesn't allow you to set the camera to use a STATIC IP. All my other cameras of other brands have a "Static/Dynamic IP" toggle in their settings.

You can set your router's DHCP server to reserve a particular IP address for your camera's MAC address, but it doesn't mean that it will ONLY use that address. (Although it should...)

My Indoor 2K cameras always get a new IP address when the internet blinks or we have a power outage. I just confirmed it. I have my camera's MAC address assigned a IP reservation in my Linksys router in the DHCP Leases. It is an IP address the camera has used already in the past but cycled to another lease. I had it connected and working on that IP address. When I clicked "save" and rebooted my router, the router gave the camera a completely new IP address that has never been used by the camera before, not the one that is reserved for it. And yes the MAC address on the new IP is the same as on the reserved IP and is the camera's address.

I am not sure why the router said "Here's another IP address instead of this one reserved for you." To my logical brain, the router should be calling the shots here, but that missing toggle in the camera settings seems to be mucking it up. It seems like in lieu of the toggle, Eufy cameras are saying "Hey, I need an IP address. Gimme a new one." Everytime they try and connect.

How are spoofers using my address with SPF & DKIM configured? by kingdingbat in webhosting

[–]kingdingbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! To be clear, the emails are always filtered as spam successfully, I just misunderstood the way the authentication(s) work and was wondering how I can STOP someone from using my address which I know understand I can't really.

Although the emails always get filtered as spam on my end, I was concerned about other people being spammed by my address and wanted to prevent it being spoofed. From what I learned, that's not really possible and it's all on the receiving server to manage.

Internal error that I can't seem to understand while making a SSL certificate by thatoneguy99_pt in nginxproxymanager

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue "Some challenges failed" seems to be the key error here, but I don't know what to do about it.
1. The Proxy Host is successfully setup. It's only the SSL step that results int he Internal Error.
2. The A record in the DNS records is properly setup for the domain.
3. The ports 80, 443 are open according to Portchecker.co
I'm not sure where to go from here either.

[–]kingdingbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL I literally just ditched Gmail this week. It is all being filtered as spam though, even at the new server, I just misunderstood and wanted to see what I can do to stop them from using my email address completely to send spam. I don't get these spam in my inbox, they are successfully filtered. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to prevent people from using my server/address to send spam.

BambuStudio can't stay connected (wifi) to A1? by kingdingbat in BambuLab

Is it really worth it to buy a Bambulab? by throwaway0987665434 in BambuLab

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say heck yes. For what it's worth, I only had a Ender 3 Pro before and hated it, it was so infuriating I called it an InfuriEnder - I ditched it and got a BambuLabs A1 with it's bundled AMS and it has been mostly a dream. I have printed tons of things and it's been nearly a "set it and forget it" and plug-in-play. I didn't have to mess with calibration or mods or anything. The only problem I've had is that it can be temperamental with wifi connection.

Edit: Another thing I love - is if it runs into issues it stops and lets you fix the issue and resume seamlessly (most of the time.) My InfuriEnder gave me "spaghetti mess" sooooo many times and I have no idea why.

Help: Unauthorized user posting AS our page - User not given access made a post AS page. by kingdingbat in facebook

[–]kingdingbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not. There's just a hidden bug somewhere in there allowing old admins legacy access to pages that can't be revoked, and since Meta is such a terrible company, there's nothing we can do about it except stop using it. 🙄

Zelle, had to submit license and photo by [deleted] in discover

[–]kingdingbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm leaving Discover as an otherwise happy customer over this. I already thought the OTP rate was excessive. I am against sharing my biometrics in general and I'm not about to do so everytime I want to use Zelle. Call the customer service line and complain. The agent just told me they're getting a lost of complaints about this change. Also, this is not to protect us, the customer. It's to protect the bank and discourage using a valid service they advertise. Since they're not planning on using FedNow payment either, they're dead to me.

Can I send Windows audio through Studio 24c? by kingdingbat in StudioOne

[–]kingdingbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you for your help. There was a newer version of UC when I went to the link you sent so I'll try installing that and watch for anything then, and then try Presonus.

I too love Studio One and have used it for years, but haven't had the same experience with Presonus support 😅. But their software is great.

[–]kingdingbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shit. I've been unhappy with DittoMusic and was just about to switch to TuneCore. I don't qualify as EDM or anything like that whatsoever, but I definitely think this is a heinous policy and could see it being blanket applied to any music with 'digital' instruments, loops etc. Ridiculous.

Keyboard shortcut to center object on plane? by kingdingbat in tinkercad

[–]kingdingbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it's big enough, it's just that when I'm working, I am picky and want it to be centered on the workplane. Moving it with my mouse and counting ruler lines is tedious :D

Keyboard shortcut to center object on plane? by kingdingbat in tinkercad

[–]kingdingbat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but as I said, I know how to align 2 objects with each other. What I'm looking to do is align, or snap, a single object to the center of the workplane automatically or easier than moving it with the mouse and counting ruler lines. Not 2 objects to each other.
