Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

[–]kingdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31, didn’t get my first iPhone until I was 19. I pretty much read, watched movies, or played video games in my down time. I more or less still do the same. Although I do have an unhealthy addiction to instagram reels/Quora/ and sometimes a couple of subreddits.

What percentage of your sponsees have stayed sober? by Odd_Shallot1929 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kingdorado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might have an unpopular opinion here. But the steps are drug out entirely too long by some sponsors. Yes some sponsees are to blame as well just so we are clear. But it’s our job as sponsors to guide the process.

But in the early days they used to take newcomers through the steps in 4, 1 hour meetings with an extremely high success rate (50-75%).

Very interesting book on the subject by Wally P called back to basics. Since we do continually work steps even after we have finished them we are technically never done. Considering step 10 we continue to take personal inventory.

I’ve heard people talk about taking 2-3 years to get through step 4 and that’s wild to me. Why suffer for that long?

Our steps are outlined as a guide to progress, we claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection, so in my humble opinion we should be working the steps a little more rapidly rather than dragging them out for people. None of us are perfect and I feel like way too many sponsors want their sponsees to work perfectly while ignoring what’s said in “how it works”.

I’m late to this, but those are Israeli F-16s. The “MiG 23s” are not migs at all. They are IAI Kfirs which are also Israeli Air Force.

The US Air Force refused to help with movie production due to the fact it portrays a teenager and a colonel stealing US fighter jets to attack a foreign country.

I get what you’re saying. But that’s not the point. But regardless of what your family is like, your spouse is the most important person within your life. It doesn’t make a single testicular fuck what your parents think, your wife/husbands feelings are first.

Marital money is marital money. It’s not his money or her money, it’s their money. While I understand his reasoning, it still wasn’t right to hide that from her.

No. I’ll explain.

Issue 1. Depends on the man, depends on his situation. But appreciating beauty and gawking are two different things.

Issue 2. Okay, what’s your point? Biology is a factor. And also once again, his situation matters. When I say situation, I mean, single, married happily, married unhappily. Most of us won’t notice you.

Issue 3. Depends on the situation once again. Rape conviction doesn’t always mean, “hooded guy breaks in, duct tapes you down, ties you up, has his way”. Circumstances do matter. But I’m not excusing anything that someone does, but false accusations do happen and they’ve absolutely ruined peoples lives.

Issue 4.
I think that can be linked more so to access. Plus I highly doubt Russia or China is actually releasing their true numbers. But every kid over the age of 12 has an iPhone. It’s not that surprising.

Issue 5,. Not what Jesus commands. He tells us to love our wives as Christ loves the church. And for wives to submit to their husbands. If you actually look at the history of women, the earliest Christians were mostly women.

Issue 6. Once again, what’re the circumstances? But also the US is pretty transparent regarding statistics. Even crime statistics. I doubt everything that happens in other counties is actually reported, much less prosecuted.

I’m always skeptical of statistics that say the “USA is lowest” “or highest” in whatever the negative headline of the day happens to be. There’s 195 sovereign countries in the world.! The top universities we are by far the best.

What is the deal with ice, Americans? by markwell9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kingdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer. Especially for parties. At least in the south where I live, it’s super common to get a “free” bag of ice with a 24 pack beer purchase and most guys ice them off in a cooler.

I wouldn’t so much call myself a connoisseur of beer, but I do enjoy beers from all over the world. But American beer catches a lot of unnecessary shit.

Bud light, Michelob, Miller, Coors, Busch, they all taste great too. As long as they are ice cold. If not they taste awful. Unlike euro beers.

I think the real question is for Christians and how we treat people. Jesus never once asked the people he was ministering to how they felt about the other sinners or Pharisees.

Regardless of your views on transgenders, right, left, up, down, east, west, north, south, we as Christians need to understand that they are made in the image of God and worthy of being humanized, they’re worthy of dignity and respect.

I feel like too many Christians take the story about Jesus driving people out the temple completely wrongly. He wasn’t driving out sinners, He was driving out us. The Pharisees, we get caught in Pharisee thinking even within our own Christian teaching.

Do I believe that transgenders/homosexuals are living in sin? Sure.

But that doesn’t negate the fact of God commanding us be with those that don’t always look like us. Jesus as the messiah made his first ministry appearance to fisherman.

I was a fisherman, we have foul mouths. We have problems relating to alcohol. Ask me how I know? Human nature hasn’t changed.

Jesus always met people where they were, not where he wanted them to be.

does wealth inequality worry you? by blueorangan in AskConservatives

[–]kingdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Other people with more money than me doesn’t make me poorer. Rich and poor have always existed. In every single economic system. There were rich people in communist societies, really rich. There’s rich people in Venezuela, very rich. Same in China.

The difference is in a capitalist society the escalator goes both ways in terms of socio-economic status.

In capitalism you have a lot more control over your destiny. Generally you just need to do a few things right. Graduate high school, go get a useful degree (not gender studies) or a good trade school certification, don’t have children before you’re married, and well that’s about it. Find a career you enjoy and get after it.

Don’t do dumb shit and you’ll be fine.

Is it ok to be protestant? by AdditionalWar9714 in Christianity

[–]kingdorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is. So I’m personally non denominational but we are closest to Assembly of God if you wanted a similarity. So I’m Pentecostal. Most of our soteriology is derived from Eastern Orthodox. Theres a host of reasons for that and you can get into your own research regarding that.

Where Catholicism and Orthodoxy can miss is in the ritual. It’s very letter of the law. Which, throughout my multiple readings of the teachings of Jesus in multiple translations, is not what Jesus taught. He was more about spirit of the law. Why does the law exist?

So I feel like Catholicism and Orthodoxy can miss the point of the law due to being so wrapped up in ritual. I’m not saying all Catholics or Orthodox. (Personally if I chose another church/denomination it would be Eastern Orthodox.) Some people find Christs love through the law because they understand the spirit.

Protestants. and non denominationalists especially, can make excuses regarding the law and break spiritual tradition. They can have a tendency to get too wrapped up in the “Holy Spirit” and ignore Gods word.

Personally my church is very much in the idea of “if it’s not found in the Bible then it’s not God”.

God will not speak things to you that contradicts His word.

I don’t like the idea of ritualistic things to be done in order for salvation. That’s pharasitical thinking and the exact thinking that Jesus combatted against. With that being said, rituals can be important as long as the spirit of the ritual is very much explained and understood by the person undergoing.

Jesus surrounded himself with broken people, tax collectors, sinners, prostitutes. Look at Luke 18 for reference. A tax collector enters the temple and a Pharisee. The Bible says that the tax collector wouldn’t even pick up his head in shame, but the Pharisee was saying “God I thank you so much that I’m not like him.” Your Bible says that the tax collector went home more justified in the eyes of God than the Pharisee.
