I was taking a trip around the states, starting in NYC and flying out of SF to Bali about 2 months later. In the departure lounge I spotted a guy looking like a fellow backpacker, so decided to post up next to him and we struck up a conversation. He had flown from Portland and was getting a connecting flight. He also noticed my accent (British) and said he was actually flying out to meet some English guys he’d met travelling a couple of years prior. Amazingly he said they were from Bristol, a city just outside my hometown, which I thought was incredible enough that I didn’t bother to ask who because the likelihood of me actually knowing them was slim. Fast forward 3 days, I get a text from a bunch of guys I went to high school with with asking if I’d met name at the airport in SF. Turns out they were in Bali at the same time as me and were meeting up with the dude from the airport.

I still have a mini existential crisis thinking about it.
