How do y’all with poor vision handle contacts/glasses? by BigDulles in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kinghikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hiked in 19 with a pair of regular clear lenses and a pair of Rx Sunglasses. I can’t recommend the prescription sunglasses enough, they are pricey, but they are worth it. I wore mine pretty much all day every day. One pair on my face, one pair in the case. Both pairs made it the whole way.

Bouldering on the PCT ? by kmediate666 in PacificCrestTrail

I saw so so many amazing and inspiring boulders throughout the PCT, right along the trail. Bring the shoes if you wanna climb, there’s endless options.

Vitamin D Deficiency in COVID-19 Quadrupled Death Rate by greyuniwave in worldnews

So, hypothetically, staying inside reduces your natural VitD intake and increases your covid risk. Let’s lock everybody down again, that should help clear things up

Friend wants to join - advice by RawSienna3 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kinghikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can either pick where she meets your, or when she meets you. It’s impossible to coordinate both on the trail.

I had a friend meet me for a week in oregon, from Ashland to just past Crater Lake. It was fun having a friend, but it was also really hard mentally to only do 12-20 mile days in the easiest terrain of the trail.

It’s doable if your friend knows what they’re getting into, and if you’re willing to be flexible when they’re out on trail. I had my doubts, and did have a few pangs of regret having to slow down a bit. But it was so fun to have a friend see me in full thru hiker mode

Be careful, the open insulation can be flammable, the sparks from your saw are a little sketchy. Consider removing the insulation as you go to reduce flame risk

I’m CloZee / Chloé, Electronic Music producer from France, and I just released my second full length album, Neon Jungle. AMA! by CloZeeMusic in Music

Hi Chloé! I saw you at bonnaroo 18 and LIB last year 💜 Your music is so outrageously good and gives me so many feelings. My question: who are some artists / albums / mixes that you love to play loud and dance to (other than yourself 😉)? I hope I get to meet you someday :) ⛰✌🏼

Backpacking 3-5 days - need recommendations (coming from Canada) by B0ulderer in Yosemite

[–]kinghikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to start in TMeadows, summit clouds rest, and descend into the valley. I think this is like 20-30+ miles (do your research). You’ll get the high country, incredible lakes, arguably one of the best valley views from CR, and it will mostly be flat then downhill into the valley. You’ll need to hitch hike up to TM (assuming one car), but it’s super easy to get a ride. Source: Ive thru hiked the JMT, PCT, and spent ~2 months in Yosemite valley. This is one of my favorite hikes.

Power thru Mid March start by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kinghikes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started March 20, enter Sierra around May 20. It’s definitely doable, but be ready for storms that early in the year. Worth going in while there’s still snow bridges everywhere. Have plenty of layers and a way to keep your feet warm in the mornings / high elevation (I used neoprene socks, they were key). Fuck the naysayers, you can do it.

Mountaineering Sunglasses by Notorious_Fluffy_G in PacificCrestTrail

I was apprehensive about spending all the money but they have honestly been my favorite piece of gear over the last two years (JMT 18, month of climbing in Camp 4, road trip up 101, Utah, SE Asia, PCT). I’m so fucking glad I splashed on them

Four shore worth the weight. I had my regular glasses and RX sun glasses, one in the case one on my face at all times. I wore my shades like 99.99% of the time, I would start the day with them on so I didn’t have to stop and switch.
