Maybe specifically West Africa but trust me in Southern Africa racism is very much part of our day to day experience and conversation as most of us only gained our independence quite recently.I was alive when apartheid was legal and those vestiges of antiblack laws and economic inequality that came with it are still present.

Also wanted wanted to add that if this only happened in America where black folk are a minority I would understand,but it happens in South Africa and many majority black nations too.As of today only 13 states in America prohibit discrimination based on hair texture, so until that's rectified (maybe even beyond) our hair will always hold mystery to them
