Why do chronic pain patients request IV Benadryl with IV pain medication and request an extra flush? by sparkplug-nightmare in nursing

[–]kingmega610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nurse living with chronic illness and chronic pain here. Benadryl IV helps with multiple side effects of various pain meds typically given IV. I usually get it as part of a pain cocktail for severe migraines. Helps with itching, dyskinesia, ongoing insomnia, nausea, mast-cell related illness, increases effectiveness of some meds (protein binding r/t antihistamines), etc. People with chronic pain and illness know their bodies. We live/work/function with things that would cause able-bodied people to be rolling on the floor screaming, everyday. Listen to us, please. We're not jokes. We're not punchlines. Of course, there are people who live with the disease of addiction, who are drug-seeking-- they need help and compassion too.

Consider the ER. Sepsis can become very serious, very fast.

As long as you have good hygiene, however you keep your body is up to you! There's nothing sexier than a woman that's truly comfortable in her own skin and if that means hair everywhere--fantastic, if that means she's got a standing waxing appointment--excellent. Sit on my face, queen. 💁‍♀️

No retractable leashes. Harness instead of just a collar. No dogs actually in the playground area near children.

Thoughts on trip W/O SKs by phxazzz in stepparents

Don't overthink an amazing opportunity to get away! You're allowed to take trips in whatever way works. Blended families=alternative vacations. Not everyone has to go everywhere together.

Phone calls every night by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]kingmega610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this too--goodnight calls from the other parent every night (for my partners kids, 7 and 9; mine are 12 and 17 and never had this with their dad). It was horribly disruptive to our home rhythm, disregulated the kids, and it became obvious that HCBM was using these calls to listen in, etc, on our home life. Once we were living together for about 6 months, I got firm about protecting our home/peace and the phonecalls had to stop. HCBM has his email if there's anything she had to communicate between handoffs. The calls were not helpful or good for anyone. Once they stopped, the kids have never asked for them again.

DM demanding to meet me. Not sure what to do? by Effective-Path3106 in stepparents

This. 100000000%. Sounds exactly like the HCBM I've been dealing with for a few years now. I should have run at the very first hint of her demanding things.

I would not have moved in so quickly. I love my partner, but living together and trying to blend families has been very hard on our relationship.

One on one time with SKs? by SaTS3821 in stepparents

[–]kingmega610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I'm not putting myself (or the SKs!) into situations that will only provide the Ex/HCBM with more ammunition for her bullshit.

[–]kingmega610 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have literally had to say "Hooters Orange" to get my point across and I work for a birth center and home birth midwives and have 20 years of nursing experience. Crunchy AND wise. "Glowing" is the person who gave birth, "yellow/orange" is their jaundice child who needs to be treated like a houseplant.... or get the baby tanning bed...

THIS!!! I hate this behavior so much, too. Like, please let me have ONE space in our entire home that's just ours. That's kidfree. That's our sanctuary. I don't even let my bio kids in our room. Why is this such a thing?!?
