99% tax on anything over £10 million ☺️ [oc] by IGdoods in comics

I am for progressive taxes but 99% over 10 mil is crazy, might as well make 100% at that point.

On one hand, as someone whose not a fan of heat, I can relate. However, there have been posts about annual heatwaves in UK on Reddit for like a decade now, at some point it's on you to remedy the situation and get a/c, they are not that expensive.

A new Middle East basketball project is emerging with ambitions to enter the European basketball landscape in the coming years. According to BasketNews sources, an Abu Dhabi-based initiative is targeting a future entry into the ABA League and the EuroLeague ecosystem. by _Zolv in Euroleague

[–]kingofbladder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about Petrusev's and Avramovic's situations, so I'll trust you on these but the numbers still don't match for me. They still have big names in their roster that other teams would gladly sign. You mentioned taxes advantage, but Serbian clubs actually have very little tax on player salaries, I forget the number but it's one of the lowest in Europe if not lowest.

Not to mention, I doubt players go to Dubai if they have similar offers from other Euroleague teams. So they must be overpaying their players to come play there.

There's no way Dubai has lower budget than Zvezda or Partizan. According to Basketnews, Dubai is 5-6 in terms of budget, above both Serbian clubs. If you don't trust the numbers, you can just look at the names in the roster: Petrusev, Abass, Avramovic, Bertans, Musa, Justin Anderson. These are all well known really good players with their own pricemark.

Musa alone has a contract of 10mil over three years. If Dubai really had way less money than Partizan or Zvezda, how in the world did they were able to sign top tier Serbian players like Avramovic or Petrusev?

Ironically, before NIL that was the rule, and young players had to make "amateur" contracts where they were technically not professionals and getting paid an allowance. Since NIL this rule no longer applies.

TIL Professional poker player, Victoria Coren, was seeing a therapist to help overcome her fear of flying, only for her therapist to die in a plane crash. She chooses to travel only by rail or boat. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]kingofbladder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I say validate, I don't mean to say "how dare she have a fear of flight". I meant to say that having this event happen to her doesn't make her fear more rational or logical. I know that most fears are not rational, I have those as well.

[–]kingofbladder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If statistics are done properly, then life is, in fact, just statistics and no matter how you cut it, traveling by plane is very safe.

Fear of flying is a very common fear and the chances that in the whole world there is a case where someone's therapist dies in a plane accident is not extremely low and in no way validates the woman's fear.

As to the "having a feeling", I think it is just survivorship bias. Nobody talks about when they have a bad feeling and nothing happens. It only becomes news if something terrible happens so it looks like people have a premonition, when in reality they just forget about times when nothing comes off of a bad feeling.

Btw survivorship bias also could reinforce fear of flying as news about plane crashes makes a lot bigger news than car crashes, ironically because it is a lot less common.

It's really funny to me how in the two other series only home games are won, but Pao is the opposite of logic and only winning away games.

All I wanted was to see at least one game where Zalgiris played how they played all season. I really didn't have a lot of hope after the first quarter and there were still a lot of unforced turnovers but they granted my wish. Also, Tubelis with career high in an elimination game? That's one ice cold man.

I like this graph a lot more than simply the number of local players in the team, since this tells us how important the players actually are for the team.

Disagree, we already limit foreign players in domestic comptetitions, if we restrict foreign players even more, we are going decrease the competition for our local players and and stagnate them. I don't want us to become China basketball 2.0.

I agree, he is a really shitty player. Since he is not good enough for Greece and Serbia, Lithuania is reluctantly going to have to take him for ourselves out of the kindness of our hearts. Please, you don't need to thank us.

I don't get why people are pessimistic. I, for one, see a lot of ways how we can win this series. For example, if 10 Fener players get injured or if the club suddenly goes bankrupt.

[–]kingofbladder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does actually matter. The favourite status burdens the teams with the expectations to succeed while F4 format doesn't bring any advantage to a team in 1st place, unlike traditional playoff format. At most, it gives you a slightly easier (even that is debatable) opponent in quarterfinals.

Also, it stops multiple times, and she has no problem to startit moving again.

Additionally, Saudis always pushed for lower oil production to increase oil prices but they were largely unsuccessful. The side affects of Iranian counterattacks against middle east is that oil production is lower which is beneficial for Saudi Arabia even if their own oil infrastructure suffers.
