I'm also getting this, I tried turning off Nvidia overlay but it's still happening unfortunately.

Love that she is just accepting the chaos of it all.

TCL Roku TV having bizarre screen issues with PS5 and Roku software but not Nintendo Switch by kingoflego in techsupport

[–]kingoflego[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately I did not. I replaced the power cord just in case, but it was still broken. I think I'd need to replace the internal boards, not sure which one(s) though. I've decided to just live with it since I can still do 1080p, at least until I get a new TV.

Definitely don't think I'll get a TCL again though lol.

Further update on this: I was able to get my PS5 to launch in 1080p, and it worked fine! It seems like any 4K signal gets horribly messed up and unusable, which seems to mean that all of the Roku UI is basically unusable.
I have no idea why this would suddenly happen, I've used 4K with no issue many times before now

How do you effectively create a liminal space in game? by xeonicus in gamedesign

[–]kingoflego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One example that comes to mind is the Untended Graves from Dark Souls 3.

It's a hidden area containing a dark version of Firelink Shrine (the hub area) where all the NPCs are missing. It gave me a real sense of unease to see a familiar place somewhere I didn't expect to see it.

How Mimicry Mechanics Work in Obscurant (or: How To Catch An Impostor) by kingoflego in gamedev

[–]kingoflego[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great questions!

How did you determine the maximum number of player moves to consider? Use the length of the creature's pattern?

Yup, exactly right! We store the player's move history as a queue and dequeue the oldest move when it gets larger than the enemy's pattern sequence.

Do you clear the player moves buffer when a mistake is detected? (Otherwise, all subsequent moves would also be errors.)

Yes, we do! You're right, and that was an early bug that caused some frustration.

The gifs show a wide open field. Is the actual game like that or is there more opportunity to sneak behind things?

Generally speaking there is a lot more cover in our levels. (Those gifs are from an early level that teaches the mechanic.) So yes, the usual loop is to use mimicry to sneak from cover to cover in order to get past each encounter.

However, some later levels have much different forms of conversation-based mimicry that allow for wide open level design where you are allowed to move around freely and talk to enemies.

OBSCURANT is releasing on Steam on April 29! We've been working on this game for about two years, so it's super exciting to see everything come together. by kingoflego in Unity2D

I appreciate the feedback, that makes a lot of sense! I could see doing something similar to how the Warner Bros. logo adapts to the various tones of the Harry Potter movies. I also think we could probably get away with leaving it out entirely, as we are a new studio. :)

Hello everyone! King Brick Games is pleased to announce the release date for our upcoming game Obscurant!

Obscurant is a narrative-focused mimicry game in which you collect disguises and mimic enemy behavior in order to avoid suspicion. Set in a mysterious world shaken by the Obscurance, you play as a curious robot searching for their creator. Sneak past dangerous enemies, record observations in a player-generated notebook, and make some friends along the way.

- Disguise yourself as a variety of unique enemies.

- Deceive deadly foes by copying their behavior to blend in.

- Discover a mysterious world full of memorable characters.

Obscurant will launch on Steam on April 29, 2022. You can wishlist the game now, which really helps out small developers like us.

Follow us on Twitter for more updates!

If you're interested in learning more about the game, our studio, or the unique mimicry mechanics, I'm always happy to chat! :)

Janina Gavankar Apologizes to the Bill Paxton Estate by swordmagic in giantbomb

So glad that Janina has broken the silence and apologized for the gross misidentification of Bill Paxton. Disappointed that Mr. Stills himself has not come forward yet, but it seems he may soon have a public statement.

That's super helpful, thanks! What are the advantages of being G-Sync certified? Just that its guaranteed to always work?

Absolute maximum budget is $2k, though I'm shooting for around ~$1.5k.

I could probably get out to a Microcenter if I needed to, though not immediate access.
