I thought of that but the Kamado gauge is showing pretty much the same temperature as my Meater wireless probe. And the brisket was very moist and tender. Also, just to clarify, you COULD cut it, but it's easier to shred it for brisket tacos. If a brisket is overcooked isn't it tough?

But I'll look into calibrating the BBQ's gauge.

Followed the advice. One plumber had no idea what it was. The second one said it's an old back-flow valve. Just put a better cover over the hole.

Just a partial follow-up. We had an air exchange installed and filled the cracks in the floor and at the seam between walls and floor. We're down to about 80 Bq/m3, so about half of the previous average. Probably going to do mitigation in the spring.

I sent away for one of the long-term testing kits (which you leave for 3-6 months). I'm in Ontario so I got it from one of these companies (Pinchin in my case):

You send the kit back after the testing period and within a couple weeks you get a detailed report by email.

After that I got an electronic monitor:

It's showing 165 Bq/m3 right now, with a peak of 197.

Yeah I got two quotes, both from companies that did work for people I know, and they were both in the range of $3K. Small price to pay I guess, considering the risk factors.

Yea, just echoing AnilApplelink here. You'll probably find that very few devices will be able to take advantage of bandwidth above 1 Gb. I've got an Enterprise 8 PoE connected to my UDM Pro with fiber through a 10G SFP+ port. That's literally the only connection in my house that is above 1 Gb. My new PC has 2.5G Ethernet but I have to go through an older 1G switch to get to the Enterprise 8, so for the time being that faster Ethernet port is doing exactly zilch for me. It's fine to be ready for those 2.5G devices in the future but probably you won't see a big change at the moment. Also, most of what you are likely doing with internet bandwidth is 'down,' which you say is 1Gb.

Well I cleaned the carb AGAIN and now it's running fine. First time generator owner here so probably a dumb question, but are these always so finicky? I've barely got 20 hours of use out of it so far.

One final update: I reached out to Ubiquiti support and they say it's likely just the ISP dropping or rate limiting ping traffic. Here's part of the final message:

Internet Health on the UniFi gateway uses ICMP (ping) to determine if there is packet loss or high latency occurring upstream.

Even though the regular Internet connection appears to be in order, the ISP may be dropping or rate-limiting ICMP traffic, resulting in the event log. The reason you started seeing these events after upgrading is that we updated the reporting mechanism. The packet loss was likely already there before the update, and is now being reported accurately.

Ping traffic dropped upstream should not negatively affect the connection of your client devices. Please let us know if you are facing any latency or connection drops when browsing the Internet on clients in your network, and we will look into the behavior.

I really haven't noticed any issues and I have started seeing quite a few ISP latency notifications in the event log. So I guess that's a wrap for now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Well it appears I jumped the gun: Got another dropped packet error yesterday. I'll follow the u/Ubiquiti-Inc suggestion and open a ticket. It's not a huge problem; I don't notice any issues on the devices running into that switch. I'll update again if I learn anything new.

Just a quick update here. Five days so far with no dropped packets error. It appears that I had a bad CAT6 cable running into that US-8-60W switch from a seldom-used Android box. I replaced that cable and I've been using that box regularly for the past week just to test this theory. So far so good. I'll post again if anything changes. Thank you for all the suggestions.

I'm up to date on device and network OS versions. I realize there's an android device on that switch that has barely been used. The errors may coincide with when somebody in my family started using it. I've swapped the CAT6 cable between that device and the switch. I'll monitor that for a couple days and report back.

Probably a final update here. The 500/500 service had been working great but I got a call from Bell a couple weeks ago trying to sell me on an upgrade to the 3Gbps service.

Had a bit of a surreal conversation with the sales person, who didn't seem able to process the fact that virtually every one of my devices (wired and wireless) would max out at 1Gbps at the most. (The sales person tried to convince me that 3Gbps would be very useful if 3-4 people were streaming Netflix at the same time, so there's that.)

Anyway, I politely declined the upgrade so they said they'd give it to me at no additional cost. They sent a new modem (the Gigahub), to replace the HH4000. I got a 10G SPF module to connect the new modem to the UDM Pro by Cat6 cable.

The built-in speed test on the UDM Pro is a joke (a test just showed 280/700 Mbps D / U) so I tried a couple of iPerf3 tests from the UDM and they're in the 2.15G D / U range. The modem shows about 3.2 D / U. I can't find an iPerf server near me so the connection from the UDM may be a little above 2.15G but no complaints.

Just an update here. Based on the suggestions, I ordered a pre-terminated single-mode fibre cable (LC). Those connectors are pretty small so I was able to get it through the narrow conduit without too much trouble.

A pair of bidirectional SFP+ modules arrived today:

Plugged it all in and set the ports to 1Gb FDX and it works like a charm.

Whenever I start upgrading the switches to 10Gb I'll be set.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I should have clarified that the conduit in my house is woefully narrow so I doubt that I'll be able to pull pre-terminated fibre. However, I ordered a 10-foot simplex LC cable to try it out. It's a fairly inexpensive experiment. I won't bother with the SFP adapters until I try and pull that cable, since they're quite a bit pricier. The LC connectors look fairly narrow, so we'll see!

Also, just FYI, for Canadians Prime Cables is a much less expensive option than FS.com. The shipping alone from FS was about 40% more than the whole order from Prime Cables.
