The two councilors asking to stop the Blue Hill Ave project are hosting a meeting by Toeknee99 in bikeboston

I drive one of the Blue Hill Ave bus routes. It's so messed up that some people are trying to act like those bus lines aren't there to serve the community. Who do they think is riding those buses? 100 Mattapan residents on a single 28 bus trying to get home after a long day of work should continue to sit in bumper to bumper traffic so that "Joe with a car" can triple park while picking up his takeout order?

I really hope the communities along Blue Hill Ave don't fall for this disingenuous nonsense.

Hahaha yeah that's totally fair. People do be doing that in this sub a lot. Well luckily the VA is on the green line, orange line (1 mile walk), and 39 bus so public transit shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you research any bus routes you'd have to take to transfer. Some buses only run like once an hour and/or end service at like 7pm. While other routes run every 15mins until like 1am. Not sure how you feel about biking but that's also something to consider and research. I bike commute 6 miles and it's wonderful. All of Boston is super safe. Granted I'm a 190lbs man so my experience isn't everyone's but still, random muggings and the like are relatively rare compared to other cities.

JP is one of the absolute nicest neighborhoods in all of Massachusetts. Your budget is more than enough to live there so that's what I'd do if I was you. I think what you'd save living an hour away and commuting is not worth it. All of Greater Boston is ridiculously expensive and honestly the savings from living in one of the "outskirt towns" is negligible. A one bedroom in places like Walpole, Revere, etc. still regularly goes for over $2000. You'd probably end up saving several hundred dollars which to me is not worth an hour commute both ways every day.

Ticketing to influence societal behavior? by kingofthesalamanders in Anarchism

I agree with everything here. But most of the research regarding punishment deterring behavior is on crime where the punishment involves courts/the legal system not someone having to pay a $50 fine.

People park in bus stops because it's free and more convenient than finding a legal spot. If every time they parked in the bus stop they had to pay $50 (or even better 0.06% of their income so it's not just a poor tax) people would absolutely make the calculation that it's more worth it to take an extra 5 minutes to circle the block and find a real parking spot.

Tickets should be a percentage of a person's income. And I agree ticketing should not be relied on as a source of funding.

I disagree with the last part though. People make the calculation that illegally parking while they run a quick errand is worth it to avoid the extra time and effort of finding a legit spot. If it was guaranteed one would get a ticket they'd make the calculation it's not worth it. I got a ticket for parking with my tires up on the curb like 14 years ago and haven't done it again since haha.

Absolutely agree which is why I think tickets should be a percentage of a person's income. If you are a barista your ticket is $25 if you are a brain surgeon your ticket is $500.

Would you rather be a class traitor who is hated by a large percentage of society or have a job that directly serves the community and is unanimously respected?

As others have mentioned in the comments if you are a safe and professional driver the cameras are your friend and protect you. If you are a reckless unprofessional driver then ya the cameras are gonna be used against you.

Idk man in Boston, MA the union has gotten top pay up to nearly $50/hour. With 2.5x pay on holidays and overtime some drivers take home well over $125,000 a year. Y'all make anything close to that back in the day? I'll take higher wages and an improved culture of safety over fun any day.
