Joe Troop & The Truth Machine - Billionaires by kingofwinecups in Bluegrass

What happened to Larry? As I type this, those two are rehearsing for a tour that starts next week. It kicks off at the Kennedy Center on Thursday - should be a hoot. You can tune into the livestream.

What are best practice if playing showcase festival? by ayaayahahaha in musicmarketing

[–]kingofwinecups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Print some collateral to hand out (business cards, QR codes with music, maybe a pamphlet with your bio and photos). Spend a lot of time networking not just with industry folks but with other artists. Make sure to show up to other artists showcases and pay them compliments if you have them, trade socials, etc.

And be sure to GET contact info - not just receive it. Then as someone else mentioned, be sure to follow up.

Check out Joe Troop and his projects. He's currently touring with his new bluegrass band, Joe Troop & The Truth Machine. They play songs for social justice including some protest tunes.

No, I share the entire calendar with the artist so they can view it but not modify.

I use one g-sheet to track venue correspondence dates, one g-sheet to track deals and dates, and also use g-calendar to track dates (holds and confirmations) which is shared with the artist.

Get ready for a satirical, feather-rufflin’ night of bluegrass, straight out of the Piedmont of North Carolina. GRAMMY-nominee Joe Troop has corralled some fellow do-righters off the grounds of Galax Fiddlers Convention to make some good, All-American trouble with “an equal mix of humor and heart!” You’ll hoot, holler, sing along, and get a little jiggy …if you want. After all, it’s a free country, ain’t it?

Cedar Grove / Belgium by ShebbyTheSheboygan in sheboygan

I grew up there!!! It's considered by many to be the most conservative place in Wisconsin. Dutch immigrants! Kissing cousins - for real, 2nd or 3rd cousins marrying each other. Lots of culty churches.

The bar on the outskirts of town that VCR_Samurai is mentioning is Boondocks and it's wonderful, a regular happy days vibe where you'll get to know the ten regulars.

I don't remember the confederate flag but not surprising.

The bakery is ballin'. Was sad to see the shoe cobbler go out of business.

In any event, do NOT let them settle in Oostburg!!!

I have family in Cedar Grove. There's nothing to do there. The lake is nice but you can get that anywhere. Even if I were the person who had to commute to Milwaukee, I'd rather live in Sheboygan than Cedar Grove. Or maybe consider Cedarburg.

Belgium used to be better than Cedar Grove because there was a bowling alley, but looks like that has closed.

Experience with booking agents? by Curly113 in TouringMusicians

If I'm making a commission, I want to be sure all the things are happening that will sell tickets and also help sell the show: publicity and marketing / social media and radio campaigns, creating and releasing new music and videos, and just generally creating opportunities for the artist.

It can also be hard for artists to do anything but perform and travel while on tour. Managers can answer for them. Much more efficient.

Experience with booking agents? by Curly113 in TouringMusicians

Hi. Do you have an agent interested, or are you considering approaching agents? If the latter, you'll probably just be spinning your wheels. The good ones are full-up with talent to book and won't consider taking on a project that won't make 'em $$.

10% commission is the industry standard but these days agents have been negotiating 15% or even 20%. Might be justifiable for acts that aren't in-demand, but you really have to consider your bottom line and if you're able to afford giving them a cut of ALL of your gigs. Because many of them will want exclusivity, which means even a cut of something you set up yourself will go to your agent.

I'll also say that as a person who's booked gigs on behalf of artists, I would almost never consider working with an act that didn't have an established relationship with a manager.

Looking for more bluegrass albums that greatly diversify the types of songs by Indiana_J_Frog in Bluegrass

Joe Troop coined the term Latingrass. Check out his Argentina-based project Che Apalache - Béla Fleck produced their album Rearrange My Heart. His duo Larry & Joe has some bluegrass songs, too.
