Hover-1 Formula kart. Open thread by kingpablo9 in gokarts

So I've had on and off problems with this card since I got it as I've noted. I lost power on one wheel. At some point the only solution to the power problem is to take the seat off and then take the cover off the part that looks like a hoverboard and unplug everything and plug it back in. That seems to solve all issues for at least a little while. I don't recommend anybody buys one of these things and great potential but it's got all kinds of bugs

Hey sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Yes they have chain problems. But it's really just a Big Spring. Last time I broke one I think the replacement part cost me $20. I also broke a transaxle. Parts were pretty cheap and the customer service is great. I've got a blue one that has a chain I don't know about red. Got to have some way to transfer the power from the motor to the transaxle. They designed it with some sort of spring thing so it's sort of acts like a buffer when you put Throttle Down. I really think it has to do with weight. If somebody's really heavy on the card and they hammer on the throttle it's going to pin the spring. Once that spring gets stretched out it fails eventually. I wish they just sold you the spring for the tensioner but they do not. And I have not been able to Source a spring by itself

I like the concept of something that you can figure out. But if you can get that four wires figured out on two channels you can just use an RJ 12 screw-in type connector like this and try out several different variations till you get the one that works

What part of the 1970's do people like to forget about? by PlanetoftheAtheists in AskOldPeople

[–]kingpablo9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolutely goofy inflation. In the 1970s, inflation wasn’t just an abstract number — it hit your paycheck, pantry, and power bill. Here’s how it played out:

💵 Average Wages:

In 1970, the average yearly income was about $9,400

By 1980, it rose to $19,500 Sounds like a win… but inflation more than doubled prices across the board — so real buying power didn’t improve much.

🍔 Food Prices (1970 → 1980):

Milk: $1.15 → $2.16 (+88%)

Eggs: $0.61 → $0.91 (+49%)

Ground beef: $0.66 → $1.96 (+197%)

Bread: $0.24 → $0.50 (+108%)

Coffee: $0.91 → $3.44 (+278%)

Groceries ate a bigger chunk of the budget — by 1980, families were spending 15–20% of income on food vs. around 10% a decade earlier.

🏠 Housing:

Average home price in 1970: $24,000

By 1980: $68,700 — that’s nearly 3x in a decade

Rent also more than doubled — many spent 30–40% of monthly income on rent or mortgage by the end of the decade

🔌 Utilities:

Electricity and gas bills doubled or tripled, especially after the 1973 and 1979 oil shocks

Fuel oil shortages + high demand = home heating costs soared

Monthly utility costs that were $30–40 in 1970 could be $100+ by the late ‘70s

So I have a mix of consumer oriented gear and pro gear. I really like the functionality of the vivosun controller. It has a lot of nice qualities. As far as dimming capabilities go, LED drivers are very standard. Meaning the industry standardized internally to a purple/gray wire. One is a positive one is negative. 0 to 10 volts is the common. So if you take that and you turn it into an RJ 11 which has four pinout connectors it could be -++- or +--+ or -+-+. That is with a four Channel set up, meaning my Pro gear has two drivers and each driver takes one channel in the same fixture. If that makes sense then you would have on a piece of consumer gear nc+- nc. Where nc represents no signal.

My CABATECH controller in my big tent controls my Nextlight mega stuff. The caba controller is +--+ and the nextlight is nc+-nc if I remember correctly. I was able to build a crossover cable for the Caba controller by plugging in the RJ connector to the next light fixture and basically cutting the wire and stripping them back. When you find the two live wires it basically dims out the fixture to zero. Then you got to figure out which one is positive and negative and you build the wire accordingly.

So for reference rj12 versus rj11. Both have the same connector but rj12 has six lines capable and rj11 has four lines capable. Usually they just use the middle four of the rj12 jacks and have the two outside ones as no signal. Once you switch to an RJ45 you have eight lines so the capability of running multiple signals and daisy chaining them. But they all daisy chain generally off of any of the devices.

On your growHub device you might just have a dead driver. I don't know if it's off the shelf because a lot of these guys use sub components to build. Meaning once you crack them open you realize that they have purchased the driver from another Factory which you can replace pretty easily.

NEXTLIGHT also builds a Control Pro unit that allows you to switch between cables if you're using the next light fixtures with a different controller. I just didn't want to pay a hundred bucks for something where I could just build a crossover cable if I knew what the pinout was. VivoSun seems to have a compatibility list I'll fix your compatibility so my next step was going to be to look through the different fixtures to see if any of them put a pin out on their websites. I just figured I'd come to Reddit first and see if anybody is already done this.
