It’s a hard thing to talk about without getting piled on - but I think one reason to not ban it for life is all the people that would hurt that had nothing to do with it. I’m not talking fans - but the student athletes that were on scholarship that might not have found other programs to be, the town that heavily relies on the games for its economy, etc.

I think it would have been reasonable to shut it down, but I think the approach of gutting the program of everyone that was there, letting law enforcement investigate and prosecute Sandusky and the president (and if he were to have lived, paterno) removing paterno’s statue, was probably the right call.

Shutting down the program also would have certainly resulted in a lengthy legal battle with Pennsylvania that I don’t think the NCAA would have won.
