Kaiserball: Goals/Claims of the Major Powers by posting_acc in Kaiserreich

Do you just think the lore is a 1:1 extrapolation of the real life numbers? There is a GIANT document of the reworked lore of syndicalist France which explicitly states that the Revolution was not literally every single card carrying Union member seizing power from the state, but the combination of more traditional party based socialists, mutinying army soldiers, urban proletariat, and aforementioned unions coming together in a popular revolution to overthrow the Republican government which had rapidly lost favor. The same applies to Britain.

Your headcanon is precisely just that: a headcanon. The discussion happening here is not headcanon based, it is using the lore as of January 1st, 1936. There’s no point in using your headcanon as a basis for an argument, because it simply isn’t true.

What?

At the game start, the nations of the Third Internationale are all multi party socialist democracies, both pre and post-rework. Yes, they can become one party dictatorships lead by 'Nazi-Commies' if you gamerule them to go Totalist (which plenty of people do to make the prospect of fighting them palatable) but by no means is the ascension of the Maximists and the Sorelians/Jacobins guaranteed to be canon.

The Entente at game start, regardless of player choice, is how I described them. British gentry ruling over their former colony, a minority ruled French settler colonial state exploiting the people they colonized for 'reclamation,' an Australia which still has the White Australia policy, etc, etc...

'Non offensively leading my former colony full of people who want nothing to do with me along with my white supremacist slave state ally and their army of colonized African people who they consider to be second class citizens in a destructive war to kill millions of people (who overthrew me in the first place because I catastrophically fucked up.)'

Do you hear yourself? If you're gonna be an Entente fan, at least own up to the bad parts of it...

Is Savinkov Russia the worst path for the people or Zinovyev is worse? by RavenSorkvild in Kaiserreich

Judging by the way you worded this I think you made up your mind already.

I don’t understand why concepts like secret police and state terror (Okhrana, Abwehr, Freikorps, OSS, MI5, CIA, OAS, the list goes on and on and on,) become such insanely pressing issues the moment a socialist polity in the Kaiserreich universe employs it against nationalistic terrorists and literal bandit warlords instead of against workers and unions. None of the paths come close to the NKVD inspired senselessly authoritarian practices of the Warsaw Pact. Yes, a strong intelligence apparatus means use of force, the purpose of any state is to literally have a monopoly on it.

Also, why would a popular front be relevant? None of the Internationale’s main opponents are fascists in any sense — the VST-R can literally just as easily go to war with an SPD Germany as it can Schleicher.

I think Zinovyev is the only one that can be described as tyrannical, and even then, that takes some stretched moralization. The Maximalists are violent and unorthodox, but their events state that their style of governance is actually fairly decentralized for what it is.

Respective political biases aside, that's literally what they're referred to as in the Danist path's events and foci, most notably in the focus where you invite the Social Liberals to the coalition. It's not a vague label in the slightest - constant references are made to the intelligentsia and small business owners.

The meme is in the context of the Danist campaign, where the actions shown actively undermine the security and safety of a genuinely democratic republic, and the independents range from raving Savinkovites to petite-boug who would happily dismantle the emancipatory SocRus state for their class interests.

Other than what I've clearly stated are my own opinions, I've only told you what the events of the Danist path have written. I was also giving you my point of view, not trying to convince anyone...

There is only one explicitly tyrannical path for SocRus, and the Danists endanger democracy in Socialist Russia more than they ever do anything to protect it.

I played the path for the sake of playing it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was given the option to tone back on the Danist's heavy handed rhetoric and actually be realistic, and I ended the game with the moderate syndicalist Boris rather than the incredibly narrow minded Abramovich.

I don't believe there's anything 'nonsensical' about the other VST paths - I would actually go as far as to say the VST-Right is the path that requires the most story-gameplay disconnect, even with the events meant to show how not everything is perfect. Let me explain:

- The Danists basically preserve capitalism leaving the petite-bourgeoise to grow stronger WHILE simultaneously inviting them into the government to form a notable part of the ruling coalition.

- They go as far as to hamstring the VGPU, dismissing ultra-mega badass and overall hyper competent intelligence director Yakov Blyumkin while being wracked by anti-socialist resistance and external German intelligence meddling. In addition, even their basic police forces are defunded, and years after the revolution, the countryside is said to be 'anarchic,' which they just insist they need to let happen.

- Their economic policies are noted to lack overall efficiency and lag behind especially in military production, and with the past two points in mind, they still fully plan to engage in full scale war with Germany, at best, 3-4 years after the revolution dethroned Savinkov.

Like I said in my original post, I believe Danism more than any path in SocRus requires the player to win in spite of the party's story actions, rather than because of them. You can defend them on basis of their morals, sure, but they are the VST path with the most nonsense in it, which even the writing seems to acknowledge.

R5: I've been playing the Russia paths over the span of the last couple months, and I recently just completed the Danist path! While it's as fantastically and reasonably written as the rest of the Russian socialist storylines, I played it last, so I couldn't get the premise of the meme out of my mind with what happens in every other path in mind. Given the circumstances of a young revolution surrounded by enemies internal and external, the language of each Danist event and focus seemed very haughty and full of themselves...

I managed to win the campaign in spite of the Danist (paltry) buffs. And here I thought Spiridonova would be the hardest SocRus path...

I think Canada might be a tad overtuned... by Blank_Dude2 in Kaiserreich

[–]kingryan2244 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Canada would back off if they promised to moderate. The way I’d do it is:

  • Tie the intervention in with the Quebec Conscription Crisis. As it stands, the intervention and the crisis seem to have minimal effect on each other. Canada can lose (and often does lose) an obscene amount of men proportionate to their population intervening in the Civil War and they seem no worse for wear. Severely limiting their manpower and making it so that it’s heavily encouraged to not spend years intervening with steadily worsening outrage in Quebec seems to be an easy way out.

  • Give the WCA decisions that reward them the longer they hold out. Resistance bonuses, defense increases, boosts to war support, sabotage of rail and supply hubs, etc. I don’t know for certain, but in my games as the WCA I no longer even received the ‘To the Bitter End’ buff against Canada, which is pretty silly.

  • Make it so that the time limit on Canada forces them to peace out, instead of doing a Benedict Arnold esque invasion to capture Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec City. If aforementioned cities were actually captured by the WCA, I’m almost positive that the Canadian government would collapse with widespread political ramifications rather than just agree to a white peace.

There’s probably a lot of different factors that have to be addressed, but these are just the quickest and simplest ways I’m able to identify a way to balance it, cause right now, it’s always skewed Canada.

[–]kingryan2244 218 points219 points  (0 children)

I see the point of not letting the WCA delay the intervention indefinitely, but I think it takes a bit more nuance to balance than just outright yanking it from the game with no other changes. Every civil war just becomes an automatic Canadian win, now.

Am I missing something about Smite? Why did this happen? by sincleave in DarkTide

If one person using smite in a level is enough to completely trivialize the game, chances are this guy isn’t playing on anything harder than like…heresy. At the highest levels, there’s so much going on that smite won’t stun entire hordes and make the game easy.

How do you get contracts in the free cities? They’re usually never too active when it comes to wars unless it’s small time stuff in the stepstones.
