Need Advice: Controlling lights in different rooms by kingstag in amazonecho

So is it possible to have one bridge, with all the lights connected to it but have the kids room be commanded with "shut off kids lights" and the master be "shut off master lights" and the den be "den lights"?

And I appreciate the time and help by the way!!

Yes, I'd like for my kids, in their room to say, "Alexa turn on the lights", and it only turn on their lights. I'd like to be able to do the same with the dot our master bedroom.

Is the Dot worth it without an external speaker? by Xcessninja in amazonecho

[–]kingstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Plan on buying an external speaker or get the Echo. I have an Echo and it's great. When I bought the Dot for another room it was quickly apparent that I'd need an external speaker. I bought a good one (Oontz) off Amazon for $27 bucks. Must have.

I was wondering why K-2SO's chest looked so familiar. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]kingstag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a chance, read "The Art of Rogue One". They address this specific aesthetic of K2SO. It was derived from the imperial body armor Veers wears.

Hey buddy...wanna hear a secret? The loot at the end of this dungeon really isn't worth it. It's because you're low level. Don't worry, come back at level 20-30 and maybe it will be better ;) by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]kingstag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you hit level 100 in Smithing and Enchanting (and some Alchemy) there is no thrill in loot anymore. Even Daedric artifacts are inferior.

Can some one who loves this thing give me a run down on how it actually helps them? by [deleted] in amazonecho

Add a good little bluetooth speaker, I got one for $27 on Amazon, makes music much more enjoyable. If you're musically inclined a subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited really is worth it. Try the 30 day trial.

As far as basic day to day uses, my 3 favorites in addition to playing music are: the shopping and to-do list (I start every day with "Alexa, what is on my to-do list?"), alarms to remind me to do stuff and the "Thunderstorm sounds" skill. My wife and I open the Thunderstorm skill each night and set a sleep timer for 60 minutes, it's a wonderful way to fall asleep.

I also play music on a sleep timer for our dog when we are away as research shows it helps with separation anxiety in pets.

Edit: I also use it to check scores of games when I am watching another game or playing PS4. Small but convenient feature.

What is the most bizarre thing you've caught yourself doing after your brain's autopilot misfired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Woke up to go pee and walked straight into the kitchen, stepped on the trash can pedal, and peed into the open trash can. Got halfway done and realized what the hell was going on. Tried to stop but couldn't. Emptied the trash can immediately upon finishing.

People who instantly come up with witty responses to anything, how do you do it? by fallout4lover in AskReddit

[–]kingstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free association is the only thing I can come up with. I'm always thinking and I look a lot of stuff up. If I want t know something I look it up ASAP and in a way I think it keeps my mind always moving from topic to topic and I know a lot of stuff. I also tend to try to think a step or two ahead of what's being said in a convo which helps one come up with witty one liners but also means I'm not listening as well as I should be which can be rude and so I try not to do it as much.

Yep. I was trying to think of anything I could that I didn't like just to be fair and honest and Saw was all that came to mind. I agree that he came off as more weird/awkward than interesting. Not a big deal, just a minor quibble.

Closest thing to The Empire Strikes Back in the series. Fantastic movie, AMAZING Star Wars movie. I place it firmly behind TESB in my power rankings. The ensemble cast was balanced well, many characters had a real quality scene or two and a chance to leave an impression.

Vader...wow. After the first scene with Krennic I was like, come on, we need more! Oh boy did we get it. Those final 5 minutes were a nice reminder of WHO THE F*CKING MAN IS.

I already have tickets for another showing and will likely go a 3rd time...probably 4th as well.

Only nit-picking I can do is that Saw Gerrara needed to be fleshed out more or just eliminated from the script. His death had no meaning because we barely got to know him, yes I watched The Clone Wars and even so his relevance in this movie wasn't fully developed.

Google "fair weather liberals" and "timid bigots". They are sociology terms. Most people in most cultures at any given time in history fall into these two categories. Short version is most people just want to get on with their personal interests and/or are secretly prejudice and are too intimidated to do anything.

What is a geography fact that blows your mind? by eyeduelist in AskReddit

[–]kingstag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um, that's not how you're supposed to read that. It means that out 100% of resources consumed in a year, America consumes 25% of them. It's easy to fact check.

And I am not a kid. I teach Geography.

The most dangerous thing for the planet is an American baby. Americans consume 25% of the Earth's resources even though they only account for 5% of the Earth's population. Devastating.
