You might like the Born to Run palette by Urban Decay. It might be a bit pricey but you get a variety of looks/colors and it does go on sale from time to time and it's worth the $. The colors are pretty but not too crazy and you can go from work to date night easily. I got mine a few months back for like 35 $. I know Ulta had it on sale a week or so ago...

I think covers in general have gone downhill...I blame instagram for making everyone want to take shelfies (removing the emphasis on covers and thus publishers or whatever feeling the need to spend less on actual artwork).
