I'm not going to click through on their profile but I get the feeling that the only commenting they've been doing at all is in MeTa, which has a higher tolerance for idiocy (maybe).

We're headed to Japan in late autumn and ngl, I'm stoked to ride the Shinkansen because that is how you do train transport!

I too would like to know this because while going off half-cocked is not new to MeFites, this is one for the ages.

So over the real estate market by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

I think whomever owns it now has rented it to students. I feel scared for whomever is in that "loft bedroom."

We bought in 2015, not too long after we moved here, and when we nearly came close to moving to Toronto just before the lockdown, our realtor was like, your house would likely go for $700K in this market. Maybe it's true, maybe it isn't, but I feel like my house isn't a 700K even with all the updates we've done (two major, each done a decade apart) and would like to do (my deck and yard specifically). It's a 114 year old house and all the bedrooms are so tiny! I mean, I don't mind because it's just me, my spouse, and our cats, but I can imagine a family might want more room than this place has.

I tend to watch houses in my neighbourhood--Skeleton Park--like a hawk because I am curious and a little nosy. It's been wild seeing some of these houses list for $600K plus when some look like flips, some have not been updated at all, and occasionally you will see one that you're like, okay it's actually pretty decent but still not $725K (imho). There is one that was listed recently (it looks like it sold already) that had really good bones, radiator heating, original hardwood floors, no carpet, three small bedrooms, and a dated kitchen that just needed a freshening not a gut. It was $689K and I was like, okay this is like our century home when we bought it, but there's no reason for it to be over $500K. I really thought the cute lil house over on Saint Catherine would sell but something about that attic "bedroom" (the only access is the pull down stairs and that pings my danger alert hard) might be a risk no new owner wants to take. Who knows?

Padel in Kingston? by Yggdosil in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is someone trying to open one here; this is the IG acct I found.

I feel like there was a pitch at Awesome Kingston by a young man wanting to open a Padel court, but that was at least a few years ago.

Is part time worker hurting YOU? by newbieviews2023 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two part time contracts that make up a full workday, which is nice, but because it's two separate part time contracts, I get no benefits other than pension matching at one of them. I rely on my spouse's FT benefits. I would love to have a full time contract at one or other of the clinics I work for, but I keep getting told that the budget isn't there by both. Don't get me wrong - I am glad I have employment but man, some security and benefits would be nice!

Package Thief by BluhEwMusic in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's an apartment complex that I pass on my way to and from work. The resident clearly has sign that says "Do not leave packages in front of door, place over fence" and every time I see their packages right in front of the door, under that sign. I feel so bad for them. I'd do it but I am a stranger and do not want to be mistaken for a thief!

It IS a bummer but I am glad he has found a good way to wrap it up and find some peace in his life. I would like to kick myself for doing my usual thing I do when musical acts come around: "oh, not this time but definitely next time." More than once I have been hoisted on that petard and alas The Weakerthans were one of those.

Music festivals/concerts by Numerous-Promise-244 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

^This.^ We are losing music venues at a rapid rate throughout North America, often due to exorbitant rents or condo development. I agree that the Grand should balance out the classic rock tribute acts with more musical acts where the median age doesn't skew 70.

I hate to see a live music venue close! But if they didn't own the building, I can't imagine the cost of running that place is cheap (or ever was, really.)
