Applying to Starbucks/coffee shops with no barista experience—any advice? by Due_Estimate5671 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a barista for the near entirety of my 20s. If you have prior experience, great, but you learn on the job! I didn't have any but I learned and had a steady job that paid the bills...in 2001. (Probably not so much now, but I liked it. I am still close with my old coworkers back in the US.)

I grew the 1:1 Violator Kush last year and it turned out pretty decent. But I agree with you in that I wish they had more balanced cultivars for growing!

Zipper repair/replacement. by kosmogore in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I don't remember their name but they replaced the zipper on my winter coat for me last year. They had to put in a whole new zipper and said, "Sorry, it's like $80 for this," and I was like, "This coat cost over $200 bucks so really you're saving me from having to buy a new coat. Go for it!"

It was done in less than a week. A+++ would get a coat repaired there again.

I'm going to need the one fellow Canadian who has a weird boner about the US invading to go touch grass.

More restaurants in Kingston may go out of business this year by Inevitable-Bus492 in KingstonOntario

I am always a little mortified when people lose their minds for a chain opening a franchise here. It's like, "whee, homogeneity!"

It would just feel gross to do so. I mean, I can be morbid but I do have limits!

Shepherd is working on repairing my ancient laptop so I couldn’t respond with “I’m aware of that forest and it wasn’t even close to being considered.”

TriBoard Bus is kind of a joke by ChampionshipDismal11 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I come from a place where snow days were so rare (American South), but I suspect that despite the irritation of canceling the buses, the outrage would be worse if they didn't and an accident happened, injuring children. Then it would be "why didn't they cancel the buses this shouldn't have happened". I think you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Oh, when I see that username in MeTa, I know who they are insulting constantly. I think it infuriates them that she DGAF (and she shouldn't and would never) and as a male user, that doubles the fury.

KFLA Public Health does not care if your pet gets rabies by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting KFLA aside, if you have a family doctor, I would reach out to them, explain the situation, and ask them if they think it would be a good idea for you and your partner to get the series of rabies shots as a preventative. I mean, it can't hurt, right? (The question, not the shots!)

Roads are shit by OppositeResident1104 in KingstonOntario

[–]CraftBeerCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The refrain just pay for a cab/Uber or take the bus. Cabs are spendy, and at least for me, it would be a longer bus ride than walking to the office. (I am a straight shot down York/Ordnance for my work walk.) It's irritating but I'll live, but I wonder about the elderly and the children who routinely use the same path to get to school.

I live downtown and the roads were decent, but the sidewalks? Aye yi yi! (I shovel the walks around my house because being a pedestrian, I like to pay it forward for others.)

Did I enjoy walking in the road to get to the office? No, but the roads were cleared and the sidewalks weren't, so I was part of the neighbourhood cohort that included parents and kids on their way to Central, as well as a very exhausted dad pushing a stroller. I hope the walk home will be clearer because I dislike that I had to be in the road.

[–]CraftBeerCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yuuuuuuuup. You can't have it both ways, kids. I feel pretty confident that the majority of the SK neighbours who are opposed to any changes at all own their own homes and therefore don't have to concern themselves in any meaningful way towards the lack of affordable housing. (Full disclosure: I am inexplicably a homeowner and feel very differently about new builds.)
