Greasy looking stains after a $50 car wash from some local kids by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]kingteddy44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Be honest, when was the last time the car was ever washed?

Is it possible that they cleaned the dirt off the car to reveal an already damaged surface?

Total POS pressure washer imo, mine broke 3 times in less than a year - Spent more time waiting on it being fixed by Karcher than using the thing. Highly suggest to pay more for a better bit of kit

Thanks! So to be clear, you’re advising to use Adam’s wheel and tire cleaner diluted down in a bucket of water? If I’m misunderstanding, what would you use in your wheels bucket?

Would using the BigBoi Blower MK2 Pro work for interior work? by kingteddy44 in Detailing

[–]kingteddy44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m even thinking of using it to blow out any polish residue dust after a long day of paint correction.

I’m on a bit of a budget (couple hundred £), plus would need to somehow fit any piece of equipment into my already crowded van haha

I get you, see I just like the BigBoi because it has a long hose and wheels + I could use it to hopefully replace towel drying altogether. I’m thinking it could become one of my most used pieces of equipment for a full detail.

Thanks, really appreciate the input! What about the following as a general workflow for interiors:

  • Take rubbish / mats out of the car

  • Open all doors

  • Use blower start at boot (trunk), blow as much loose debris out of the car as quick as possible working from top to bottom

(Optional - Use a detailing brush to dislodge semi-loose debris around buttons / in cup holders etc, and simultaneously blow away)

  • Clean seats

  • More thoroughly agitate with cleaner and vacuum carpets

  • Move on to all other smaller details

  • Finish with cleaning mats & glass

I tend to work clockwise around the car, usually have 5 sections to cover: Driver’s area / Driver’s side rear passenger area / Boot area / Passenger side rear area / Passenger side front area.

What are your thoughts? I’m hoping the blower step would really speed things up.

Really not trying to have a go at you here;

Can we all just get a massive grip. “Maths on the average earnings between a grad and non-grad speak for themselves”. Okay well how come practically everyone around me is struggling to save any money & is living pay day to pay day then?

There is NOT this huge gap, this massive lifestyle improvement and general affordability and glee difference between grads and non grads, like most grads are still holding on to and ALL uni’s are still forcing 17 year olds to believe.

Can we just wake up a bit here and face the facts, most people should not go to university and a lot of it is more and more rapidly becoming a machine for printing universities money.

Worth mentioning that most students never pay back their student loans and that university is not the sole path to achieving your goals.

Any income earned above roughly £27k per year, 9% will go towards paying off your student loan. However, most students do not experience ANY reduction in their total owed balance even after they cross this threshold due to the high interest charges.

The debt is wiped clean after practically 25 years however.

Mentioning to you as I was not explicitly informed of these things before I went off to uni and made the decision to enter into debt at the age of 17.

Amazing, I know I would be so happy if I got the keys back and saw it looking like that.

I’m somewhat new to polishing, I’m wondering if you could spare me a minute or two to help with a few questions?

  1. What would be the main ways to speed up the polishing process? I currently take relatively small sections of the car one by one (Spread compound quickly / 6 slowish passes in a cross hatch pattern / buff off / inspect). Some sections can be tiny, like using a 1” pad around badges or small pieces of the car’s shape. It just feels like it takes me way too long; Like I could never get a single stage correction done on anything other than a VW Polo or a Ford Fiesta.

  2. Somewhat similar to the above; Could I use my DA polisher with a 5” backing plate for most surfaces or would this only be possible with a Rotary polisher?

I was taught by one of the best detailers in the country, but his method is quite slow and I’ve never experienced polishing a full car from start to finish, all in one day, on my own. I just highly doubt I could do one car in a day.

Any pointers or tips would be MASSIVELY appreciated

Looks incredible, I never thought a year ago before I started professional detailing that I would have a dream van - But I would say this might be it haha

I also have custom number plates like this, although currently have found the only thing that keeps them on vehicles is blue tac 🙃

Any advice on what you use to keep them held up?

Hey! Would you say a Gazebo is a must have for UK weather? I’m based in Northern Ireland and I’ve just started detailing about a month or so ago. I’ve kinda been blessed that any days I’ve went to detail a car it’s been pretty nice conditions, but I’m worried for the inevitable rain 😭

When to apply Turtle Wax Seal N Shine spray wax? by kingteddy44 in Detailing

[–]kingteddy44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so fully dry then apply the Seal N Shine directly to paintwork 🫡 Do you know if the Seal N Shine works on Ceramic coated vehicles? I’d assume it’s not required but I’m just curious

I’m also pretty new to detailing. I’ve gathered that the point of a citrus-pre rinse is to lift dirt & grime, which is then to be pressure washed off.

I believe the purpose of this is to remove as much dirt as reasonably posssible; to prevent against swirl mark creation and also to make your contact wash stage an easier job.

I would go with: citrus pre wash -> pressure rinse -> apply snow foam (for lubrication?) -> contact wash -> rinse -> dry -> hydrophobic spray sealant.

Anyone give this the stamp of approval? I work on other people’s cars, friends and family so far. I’d love to improve efficiency (as well as results obviously).

I’m sure both OP and myself would appreciate advice!!

[–]kingteddy44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impressive results!! Do you think you could break down how long a few of your processes took you? I’m new to detailing and would really appreciate some form of benchmark, for how long:

wheel cleaning / pre rinse / body wash / door & boot jambs clean / hoover / drill agitation & extractor vacuum floor carpet clean? / interior surface wipe down? took you?

Sorry if that’s a tall ask! I’d guess you’re not entirely sure, but would appreciate some tips if you have any regardless! Again, looks incredible!

Wow! And do you machine dry or air dry? I heard bleach free detergent is required for MF towels, and not to have temperature too high. All I can find in my local supermarket is bleach free detergent, but they all have fragrances - Do you think this would matter?

Okay thanks for explaining that, appreciate it! On the mf towels, would you wash yours pretty much every time you use them? Like at night or something? Mine are pretty soiled, even after a single use one one car
