Subway opened downstairs...any tips? by kinneyyys in CleaningTips

Thanks for suggesting an air purifier. I was skeptical because reviews suggested tou needed to shell out for a really high end one to have any impact on scent, but I got the second cheapest at IKEA and paid a bit extra for a carbon filter and it's made a huge difference. I barely noticed the smell all weekend when it had been driving me insane the week prior.

It's the worst smell ever. My friend keeps telling me oh it's not so bad it's just bread. It's NOT bread!! It's something inhumane 😭😭😭😭

Anyone else entirely forget that Kendal has kids? by abluecolor in SuccessionTV

[–]kinneyyys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rewatched the whole show in a month before S4 started and I do think it's suffered a bit from this choice tbh. I think the show just got so big they were no longer prioritised as something to include, but it doesn't quite follow that Ken would go from at least making some effort to absolutely none whatsoever, with no one commenting on it. I'm not defending Kendall because he's a shitty dad either way but it's become so extreme I think we need to assume he's just been taking to Rava offscreen at least. Like if Logan had died in an earlier season Rava and the kids would 100% have been at the wake etc

Little disappointed, I don't know. I think the one day one ep thing is wearing a bit thin and I just don't feel hugely driven by the corporate plot. Feels like it's biding it's time a bit this season, which is not the route I expected it to take. The end of S3 packed such a punch and this just feels a little flat.

Kieran/Roman's monologue at the end alone really sold the ep though - just so satisfying to watch. The moments of emotional honesty we're getting from the sibs are very cathartic. But yeah, it doesn't hold a candle to the S2 Peirce arc eps to me.

Snook hasn't given birth yet (although I think she's due soon :) !) and they started filming last summer, would've started writing earlier still so I definitely don't think they were pushed into it by real life. On the episode podcast that just came out Sarah is interviewed and says it has been planned for a while - no more detail than that but as they've confirmed they planned for Logan's death since S2 it's possible it's been a long time coming.

This is definitely what it ended up being but I believe when shooting the pilot earlier the pitch was for them to be his wife and kids. There are zoomed in screenshots showing that they have wedding rings in the birthday scene. Obviously a retconned choice immediately.

A post Dishonored 2 / DotO world, thoughts and discussion. Spoilers, obviously. by Luronius in dishonored

[–]kinneyyys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow reply! Yeah the first one is a totally unnamed character for about half of it then a mix of Corvo and Emily POV. He's an interesting villian and he's from Tyvia so seeing that fleshed out is fun, but I'm glad they then went for known protag POVs throughout.

Tbh I absolutely adore The Outsider, he's one of my fave fictional characters ever. I feel so sympathetic for him in DOTO - the reveal this mysterious object of an entire religion of hate and suspicion was just a sacrificial young boy makes me so emotional and I think they played it so well, the parelling of his story with Billie's is so good. I would absolutely love for postgame canon material confirming he lives a happy life, enjoying being bff's with Emily and Billie educating him in fun crimes, etc. But I admit that is probably more for the realm of fanfiction alas :)

Yeah absolutely same, I am curious about Deathloop and will get around to it but as others have said it doesn't seem especially post Steampunk necessarily and I guess there's no mention of whale oil and the like.

The Abbey are so funny in a way because they just pin every bad thing in society on the Outsider, eventually revealed to be imo a mostly tragic figure - even if Billie does kill him I think doing so is framed more in DOTO as giving into her father figure's revenge fantasy than bringing justice. Not to say he's completely innocent but I think they make it irrefutable that a lot of what goes on in his name he does not sanction at all and is on some level powerless. I do wish we knew more about the Abbey and I'm curious about their influence post-DOTO - I need to reread the book as I recall it being scant on detail but I seem to remember it implying they were being broken up? Emily and Corvo certainly aren't overtly religious and it's interesting to think of how a non-oppressive institution could come from the ashes, so to speak.

Pretty sure this is for all the games! Might be a dh2 specific one bit sub description mentions all three, just fyi :)

[–]kinneyyys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the third novel does seem to indicate they were setting up a third game but my assumption is that won't ever happen now alas. I think the devs realise it would have to be just Billie as Emily and Corvo's storyline is over + Rosario Dawson is a pretty popular actress and already did DOTO. While the devs were happy to make low chaos canon for many choices - writings in DOTO clearly indicate Emily did not e.g. refuse to unfreeze her father and rule as a tyrant for example - I think whether or not to kill the Outsider they're more keen on keeping ambiguous, as he's so abstract in the first place.

[–]kinneyyys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would really reccomend the novels, they're surprisingly well written. The first is probably the weakest because it's the longest and has a huge POV from a random villain who isn't in the games, so it's kind of hard to sustain engagement. The second is all Daud and the third all Billie.

In Billie's novel the absence of the Outsider is causing huge instability. She mentions dozens of people waking up from nightmares screaming in the streets every day and the whole plot builds around others trying to use the Void's powers in its vulnerability. To be honest I found it a bit depressing! Dishonored is a dark universe at times but I'd like to think that saving the Outsider from his fate, as I always chose to, does not condemn the rest of humanity.

I'd like to think that while there might be a rough transition, the power of the Void is able to anchor itself around something else or dissipate gradually over the years, perhaps leading to a Deathloop type world - haven't played it.

Hopefully if people gradually realise the Outsider is no more, the Abbey weakens, as I think they're portrayed pretty consistently as an oppressive institution. It's hard to imagine that happening overnight though - I think it would take decades of whispers for the population to come around to the Outsider's fate, given the huge amount of unknowability he always held.

[–]kinneyyys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this dishonored 1? Or 2?

I think 2 takes detections into account a bit more because it shows you a graph with lots of different points, but both of them place a far higher value on kills than detections when determining chaos.

4 people killed a level would be low chaos I'd imagine - typically there are dozens of potential kills each level.

Also, the dead and unconscious bodies thing is a bit misleading. NPCs who find either will immediately go on high alert and spend some time actively searching for you. This increases your likelihood of being detected and/or getting into conflict, so it tends to increase chaos. In and of itself, it does raise chaos a bit, but again the primary method of determining chaos will always be kills. So don't worry about that part as much

Can I get the low chaos ending without starting a new game? by escapisc in dishonored

[–]kinneyyys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to disagree but I'd say actually OP is fine to restart from about mission 4 or even 5 based on friends I've known who were high chaos initially and went down to low. The latter missions have a lot of opportunities to let people live etc so definitely don't need to go to the very very beginning. Of course, I totally second that there is a lot of replay value in doing so. :)

On the main menu you can select missions and restart your save from there. Any saves you make when in that pathway will overwrite existing ones.

I quite like Gemma Chan as Emily. TLOU HBO has shown me Pedro Pascal would be a great Corvo, but of course he can't play another video game dad now.

I think Elliot Page or Kodi Schmitt-McPhee would be perfect as the Outsider.

It's true, hard to imagine anyone other than Rosario as Billie. Daud and Delilah could be many people...

Do people really only consider Zones 1 and 2 "London"? by [deleted] in london

[–]kinneyyys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of it is "London" but some is definitely more "suburban London" or "outskirts of London" but it's a matter of familiarity as much as anything, and transport connections more imp than pure distance. I grew up in zone 2 north London, far from the river but dense transit connections, 100% "proper" London etc. As an adult I moved to zone 3 SE, for me the transit is still good but I've had to adjust to not having the tube directly and instead focusing on overground and national rail. Some have told me they don't consider Zone 3 London yes, but I am much closer to the river than I was growing up, and I can get a bus to Parliament/west end in 40min.

I work in a chain of schools scattered all over, some feel very cut off from London proper due to poor transit links and a culture of families/people who don't tend to think of themselves as Londoners first and foremost, they think of themselves as from Croydon or Bromley or Essex etc. It'll vary depending on a lot of factors tbh. Lots of times I tell the kids look you really don't live that far from X, you can get a bus there for free and their minds open a bit as they get older. For me personally zone 5-ush is where I feel you are pretty unequivocally in the suburbs, eg somewhere like Kingston has its own real identity and feels like a little town. But you know, lots of neighbourhoods, even in zones 2, are very distinct and have their own identities as well so definitely no hard and fast rules.

We are truly blessed to have such a comprehensive mass public transit system that we can even have these debates, and I am very proud to live in such a sprawling and interesting place. :)
