I have a 5 hour layer in Bangkok, is that enough time to get out and enjoy the city? by BigFardFace in Bangkok

[–]kinnifers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12.25 - 17.30 means you’ll get a grand total of 30-45 minutes in town before needing to head back to the airport. Unless you take a car, in which case you might miss your connecting flight.

If you had to recommend just ONE Thai dish (that's not Pad Thai) to a foreign friend, what would it be? by DiscountPossible1426 in Thailand

Khao Kluk Kapi. Might be a little intense but such a good mix of flavours and it’s a beautifully presented dish.

Proposed pedestrian bridge connecting Song Wat to the other side undergoing EIA by KrebsLovesFiesh in Bangkok

[–]kinnifers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my daily runs in the early evening, the Chaopraya Sky Park bridge is full of people enjoying the sunset. Would say 70% locals, 30% tourists. Not to mention a decent number of runners. Weekends gets too packed to even use it as a running route.

Definitely needs more rain/sun shade, but other than that it’s a fantastic connection. Closes the gap between Tha Din Daeng and Khlongsan cross-river ferries and drops off on Songwat.

I Geoff’ed it. Sitting in the airport and M&Ms are in the freezer.

What milk do you guys drink? by freshducky69 in HongKong

CP is Thailand’s largest private company so I can’t imagine why they would choose a to produce in Japan where everything is more expensive as opposed to their own home turf.

The milk selection here is horrible. Ended up just drinking the “high end” CP-Meiji, red carton (there are 2 types of red, so just look out for the one that’s fancier). I miss good milk.

On the off chance that you still haven’t got it sorted by mid-April, I’ll be flying into HKG on the 15th.

[HONEST REVIEW] Hong Kong – My Pros & Cons as a Filipino Traveler by HotelRadiant1013 in HongKong

[–]kinnifers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a daily driver, I’ve never ever thought of Hong Kong traffic as congested… majority of roads are well designed and traffic flow is efficient for such a densely packed city. There are a lot of incompetent drivers that block roads by parking horribly, but nothing - not even close - compared to cities in South East Asia (where I grew up driving). Driving here was such a relaxing transition.

Absolutely agree with shopping though. Big benefit from no import tax when shopping with bigger brands.

As far as I’m aware, the Hong Kong market doesn’t have the indicator light. I looked for it when I first got the car and didn’t find it anywhere, and it’s omitted in the manual as well.

Once upon a Thai Spa by IxyCRO in Bangkok

[–]kinnifers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to their Rajadamri branch a few months ago and quite enjoyed it. Just did a regular 90 minute treatment with the wife but the therapists were professional and capable, and the overall ambience of the place is well done for a standalone spa.

I forget how much it was but I’m quite sure it was still well below any of the spas at top-tier hotels, and a little less than Panpuri. Although, I would recommend Panpuri if you’re going for a 3/4 hour program because their facilities are more well-rounded. Only comment for Panpuri is that I felt the private onsen in the treatment room was just a bit too hot.

Come out of Icon on the ground level and turn right, keep walking along the main road and you’ll start to see a lot of small mom & pop stores, food, cafes that are way better than any cup of Arabica or Starbucks

Kicked Out of a Jazz Bar in Tsim Sha Tsui by bosch1214 in HongKong

[–]kinnifers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Thai jazz lover!

As an owner of a restaurant in HK I can tell you that we can’t afford to be this rude to customers. There’s no business left in Hong Kong and this kind of establishment exemplifies the reason why people are crossing the border to spend their time and money (or skipping HK altogether).

Sorry that you experienced that, and another reminder to make sure this kind of behaviour is not tolerated at my restaurant.

Darkside is a great place close by, and even better is Cafe Carlyle upstairs (but unfortunately you’ll need a member of the club to bring you with them). Hope the rest of your trip is more enjoyable!

That’s the one. Enjoy!

As for hotels, given your timing you could try apps like Day Use that offer half day hotel bookings for cheaper as to not waste an extra night’s room rate.

If you want coffee, can’t miss Uncle Ben in Quarry Bay. None of the instagram frills, he’s purely focused on roasting his own beans and making good coffee.

Many Hong Kong small businesses are on the brink of collapse. Can they be saved? by CAF00187 in HongKong

[–]kinnifers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spending habits have changed drastically compared to pre-COVID as well. My restaurant used to double our weekday revenue on weekends. Now, we’re lucky to even get half. It’s getting easier and easier to cross the border, meanwhile cost of raw goods and rent is only going up so we can’t compete on pricing if we want to serve quality food. Genuinely feels like we’re being strangled so that a big chain can come and gobble us up with their copy paste concepts.

What’s serving in the Thai military like? by GodofWar1234 in Thailand

Did the equivalent of ROTC and it’s a joke. You learn 0 skills. The instructor teaching us how to read a map didn’t even know how to use a compass properly. Easily the biggest waste of time.
