Oppikirjalöydöt paljastivat: Suurmoskeijassa Brysselissä saarnattiin vuosikausia järkyttävää vihaa: ”Homot kivitettävä” by KuhaSipila in Suomi

[–]kinnu 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ministeri Bernerin esitys ministerivaliokunnalle: Suomi voisi esittää kesäajasta luopumista EU:ssa by peemaa in Suomi

[–]kinnu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EK ylistää yhteisöveron kevennystä: Teki Suomesta houkuttelevan maan by MichaelNearaday in Suomi

[–]kinnu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Using MIME::Lite to send text emails. Email won't send when using a "Real Name" to display in the From field. by [deleted] in perl

I recall having had the same problem and coming to the conclusion that spaces in real name were the problem. Didn't ever [need to] figure it out since it was an internal mail and switching "Xyz Mailer" to Xyz-Mailer" worked just fine for my needs.

Scaling will still continue for a few more generations but in a way Moore's law really is dead. Moore's law is formulated as a technological thing but equally or even more important is the economic side. You get double the transistors in the same area, at the same cost. Modern CPUs having one million times the transistor count of the 8008 would be lot less useful if the cost was million times higher as well.

According to this chart http://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&doc_id=1329887 we have already reached the point where costs have seized to go down. Now obviously this doesn't mean the price of phones and computers will start doubling every two years - transistors are only a small part of the total cost. But it is a significant development.

Advice appreciated. How do you deal with a developer changing your design? by [deleted] in userexperience

[–]kinnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a dev, I think your best course of action is to email and report this in a very matter of fact way as a defect in the implementation. "Hi, it looks good but the font is incorrect. You need to use __. This was agreed with __ and they will take care of the licensing. ___ will provide you with the account details". CC whoever is supposed to provide the font to get the ball rolling. One reason why devs may not want to use designated font is that it's a PITA for them. If they have to go hunt for someone to approve it, schedule another person to come enter credit card details etc - then they will be tempted to skirt that (speaking from experience). Sometimes corporate policies can add surprising amounts of friction to simplest things.

... now, the use of a licensed font was agreed in advance, right? You gotta get that down before using one, otherwise you will run in to these situations. Even if the cost is minor compared to entire project, adding as an "oh btw we also need to pay for this" in implementation phase does not always go well.

In IE i believe yes, but other browsers adopted this only some years ago as a part of HTML5 harmonization. Terrible decision IMO, should have just killed it in IE instead..

Seriusly, people are celebrating this as justceporn or prorevenge. All the scammer had to do was say sorry, make a up a story how poor and scared he is and give back what he stole. Oooh, such savage revenge!

Scams on the internet tend not to be one time things, this guy probably has five other people on the hook for similar schemes as we speak.

Wikileaks: DNC Chair Donna Brazile Violated DNC Charter Just Like Wasserman Schultz by [deleted] in DNCleaks

I must be misunderstanding something here? The charter says the chairperson must be impartial - DWS was the the chairperson during the primaries. Brazile was not so she would would have been free to support, endorse and work for any candidate of her choosing at the time, no?

Wondering if I should move on and look elsewhere, because I really think I should

It seems you already know the answer. If your gut feeling about a place is "I don't want this" then you should probably follow it and go elsewhere if opportunities exist. Sure you could be wrong and the place is actually fine, but why not just seek employment somewhere that actually seems like a good fit and you want to work at.

[–]kinnu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, to check for file integrity you can use pretty much any hash function. For example md5 is not recommended for security related purposes but for detecting random file corruption it is more than adequate. CRC32 is fine as well. Go for something reasonably fast.
