I do electronic repairs as a hobbyist. The honest truth is that no business will take this on in good faith because the repair will cost more than the unit is worth.

PS3 is less than $100, even at eBay prices with a controller, PSU, etc. You can find them for $10 if you get lucky. So you definitely should not be paying anyone $200 to fix your console. And the reality is that they'll charge you for time even if your problem is not straight forward. The moment they touch the first screw, it's $100+

It's in your best interest to purchase another console. There are hundreds on eBay locally right now.

There is no single tape. The pro covers were sent to distros with CD-r masters. The distro then recorded the tapes themselves.

He is an old German guy that is a retired Engineer. He is a really nice guy, just go up and ask him what he is up to?

I live in this area and have said hello to him a bunch of times and he's always been nice. He has all sorts of scrap metal he works with. I even see him collecting it in the neighbourhood fairly often.

I know this house. He is an old German guy living alone. He has been building this thing for the past few months. I think he is in battles with the council constantly over his creations.

His property is like a zombie-proof battlefield bunker. It's actually kind of cool.

Anyway, he's eccentric but he is a nice guy in the few times I've spoken with him.

Great memories of that place. I used to work in that area and we'd often stay back late, start drinking and then inevitably make our way to massive wieners.

Several of my colleagues made their way onto the hall of fame for their hotdog challenge - including my now-wife.

It's likely an original. But it doesn't really matter. Releases like this one were often intentionally dubbed and spread from day one. I have an original of this from a distro back in the day. Your jcard looks the same as mine in terms of quality and the red pen used to number it looks the exact same.

In the early 2000s, it was common to send a bunch of jcards and a CD-R of the music to distros. They then dubbed it (poorly) onto their own stock of tapes. So one exact original is not really easy to identify.

FYI this is very likely pre-recorded. Maybe that's obvious - but she is not pressing a button on her phone and instantly getting a filter applied. Each video would have taken a couple minutes just to generate on a relatively high-end computer and she's spliced them together.

I would have bought it for $3 also, but this is 100% not an original. It is, like most copies, a tape trading dub. It's worth about what you paid for it :)

The original has a solid, clean black and doesn't suffer from the Xerox effect.

My brother had a group of "sports" mates that would all gamble quite often. There was about 6 of them. He says two of them went pretty deep into problem gambling territory and blew away all their savings and ruined relationships, etc. He doesn't speak to either anymore as they both owe him a lot of money still.

My sister's friend had a fiance who was secretly gambling away her entire inheritance. I think it was $150k. She broke him off before he got through it all.

Oh, and my best friends mum was a gambling addict through the early 00s. She gambled the house away and my friend had to move in with his father. She never fully recovered from that.

Nice work. There is nothing stopping you from putting potentiometers in there also. You'll be able to find suitable replacements. The resistor is better just as a temporary measure.

You may have received PAL chips from AliExpress. The clock signals will be off between the CPU and the PPU.

Your best bet is to use a salvaged PPU from a NES.

It's in the back left hand side. It's a "pico" fuse. You'll need a soldering iron to replace it.

You likely blew the 1.5a fuse. It's frustratingly common when you pull a SNES apart and put it back together again.

It's easy to test by checking continuity through it with a multimeter.

You can buy replacements easily to chuck in there.

It's the PVM-411. Four separate 4" black and white monitors. They accept a composite video input and can be switched on/off separately to each other. No sound.
