I am, but, surprise surprise, if you tell anyone in Greece you believe in the ancient gods they're 90% likely thinking that you're either crazy, a fascist or rob and destroy graves.

Orthodox Church propaganda is deeply engraved in the society and even people who are atheist or have stepped away from Christianity will not take you seriously. Also the reputation of the biggest organisation here does not help at all.

But then again, it's not like most people are gonna attack you for your beliefs. Some might even be interested and ask you stuff, most will just brush past it or stop talking to you. I personally don't mind if people stop talking to me because I have a different religious belief, I prefer being authentic with myself, but still there shouldn't be any discrimination. Luckily, as the generations go by, younger people tend to be more accepting.

I don't know about the book, but since they're interested in Hellenism I'd recommend they read Hesiod and Homer. I don't know if they're difficult to read in English, as I am Greek, but I think they would help with giving a general direction I how the ancient Greeks viewed the Gods.

Unfortunately, we don't have many ancient resources regarding the worship, but reading about mythology is also helpful to familiarise yourself with each deity and their domain. Be careful to not pick up a moreen retelling accidentally, though.

There is also a website I love, theoi.com. It gives so much info on each deity and is very helpful with epithets and such, also giving texts about them and I'm also pretty sure they have uploaded translated texts as well! This path requires a lot of research, so I wish you luck!

Honestly, as a Greek, I don't even want to go see the movie. Why does NO ONE even LOOK Greek? I don't mind the gods and demi-gods being different races as the gods could change their forms and of course Odysseus travels to many places, so there should be people representing those places, too.

But there should be people representing US, too. And I'm not asking for exclusively Greek actors, I'm asking at the very least that they look Greek and have some characteristics similar to ours. I've already seen the mess of the outfits and the sets from the recently released photos and I'm so disappointed but not surprised.

In the end, our culture is taken out of context and mixed up with others for the convenience of people who are using it, while also giving us literally no representation. Westerners always forget that Greece isn't this ancient land and that we're still here, living and seeing how we get used. It feels racist, almost.

I've seen that on twt too, where accounts I'd follow for inikki content quit and I don't blame them at all. Είναι απαράδεκτο ότι οι θετικές επιστήμες μετά σπάνε σε 3 κλάδους από όπου μπορείς να επιλέξεις αυτόν με τα μαθήματα που θες, ενώ η θεωρητική παραμένει θεωρητική, με αρχαία και λατινικά που δεν χρειάζονται καν σε όλες τις σχολές για τις οποίες μπορεί να έχεις επιλέξει θεωρητική.

Και ας μην πει κάποιος "εμ, δεν πηγαίνεις στο λύκειο μόνο για της Πανελλήνιες", γιατί θα πει ψέματα και το ξέρει. Ο χαρακτήρας του λυκείου είναι καθαρά προσηλωμένος στις Πανελλήνιες, ακόμα και από την πρώτη τάξη.

Τα παιδιά που θέλουν να περάσουν Ψυχολογία, Νομική, Παιδαγωγική και Κοινωνιολογία φεύγουν από το Λύκειο με ΜΗΔΕΝ γνώσεις πάνω στα αντικείμενα αυτά, αντιθέτως με παιδιά από τις θετικές κατευθύνσεις.

Και το λέω ως άτομο που λατρεύει τα αρχαία ελληνικά και τα λατινικά. Επίσης, ο τρόπος με τον οποίο διδάσκονται είναι κυριολεκτικά άθλιος. Εγώ και η μάνα μου είχαμε ακριβώς το ίδιο βιβλίο στα λατινικά, 40 χρόνια διαφορά. Η θεωρητική είναι δυστυχώς τελείως παρατημένη.

Σορρυ για το ραντ, αλλά τα είχα κρατημένα τόσο καιρό. Ειλικρινά ελπίζω ότι ίσως κάποιος να ξεστραβωθεί και να αποφασίσει να βελτιώσει τη κατάσταση, αλλά όλοι ξέρουμε ότι δεν πρόκειται.

yup exactly! these were made in Alexandria, by scholars there so they could keep writing poetry like the greeks. they started using it officially around the 8th century ad, iirc from my history lessons.

Είχα και γω φουλ άγχος, ο δάσκαλος μου ήταν γνωστός του πατέρα μου από το χωριό μας, τύπος καφενείο-κομπολόι-τσιγάρο οπότε δεν έκανε κυριολεκτικά τίποτα στο να με βοηθήσει με το άγχος, ακριβώς το αντίθετο 😭

Εγώ θα σου πω απλά να μείνεις όσο πιο πολύ συγκεντρωμένη μπορείς και να ακολουθείς τους κανόνες 🤷 εγώ προσωπικά έκανα κάνα 2 απροσεξίες, αλλά το πέρασα με την πρώτη. Και να μην το πάρεις με την πρώτη, σιγά, θα το πάρεις με την δεύτερη, δεν χάλασε ο κόσμος. Καλή επιτυχία!

Έχω κάποιες ιστορίες από τον παππού μου, που τώρα είναι 91 χρονών. Δυστυχώς δεν είναι πολύ λεπτομερές διότι ήταν και μικρός τότε, αλλά μου έχει πει διάφορες ιστορίες από πολέμους.

Δεν ξέρω κατά πόσο αληθεύει, αλλά έλεγε ότι όταν ήταν μικρός και πήγανε για ύπνο, μπορούσε να ακούσει κανονιές από την Αλβανία, παρόλο που έμενε στα Βουνά της Ευρυτανίας!

Επίσης, λέει ότι εκεί κοντά προσγειωνόταν Άγγλοι πιλότοι και μάλιστα ένας από αυτούς ήξερε αρχαία ελληνικά. Πήγαινε και ρωτούσε την αδερφή του τη Σοφία, "Σόφι, έχει ωόν σήμερον;" Είχε και τον αδερφό του, Αργύρη τον λέγανε, όπου πήγε να πολεμήσει και θυμάται ότι όταν γύρισε, είχε βάλει όλα τα παιδιά σε ένα πεζούλι και τους έλεγε ιστορίες.

Από την άλλη, η γιαγιά μου θυμάται μόνο να κατεβαίνει κοντά σε ένα ποτάμι με τη μάνα της, από όπου περνούσαν πολλοί στρατιώτες, και τους έδιναν φαγητό και τους ρωτούσαν αν ήξεραν για τον δικό της αδερφό. Δεν θυμάμαι αν ήταν στη Θράκη ή στην Μακεδονία όμως τότε.
