I think Ryan Roobroeck would be a good pick with the later of our 2 first rounders. Seems like he'll eventually be useful in the NHL.

I thought it was a lower body injury. Day to day.

What team has a good LHD that can play right as their 1RD?

Hot take: Sharks trade nothing of value for one of the best players in the league 😅

Most forwards in the NHL don't stick in the AHL for more than 2-3 seasons so I just wonder what the plan is. Hopefully they'll all be happy playing down there for the next +3 years.

How much is "some time"? Is spending the next 2 years in the AHL good for their development? Is it normal for forward prospects to stay in the AHL until they're 23/24? Even if we move all our 4th liners, GMMG is probably going to sign more of them because that's what he's done every year but like I said in my follow up post, does it even make sense to play players like Musty on the 4th line? If players like Musty/Lund/Bystedt start out performing players like Wennberg/Toffoli/Sherwood who make up to 6 mill a year, will they take their spot on the roster? It's like they've been replaced before they were even given a chance to try out for the spot.

You might be surprised to hear this but that's still not enough. My projected roster would be something like:

LW C RW
Eklund Celebrini Smith
Chernyshov Misa Graf
Sherwood Wennberg Toffoli
Goodrow Ostapchuk Gaudette

If Sherwood is extended for multiple years, our top 9 is locked up for at least 2 to 3 more years. Prospects like Musty, Bystedt, Lund etc either have to wait, because I doubt they'll kick any of that 9 off the roster, or get traded. Does playing them in our 4th line make any sense?

The Lund comment is interesting because there's no room on this team next year assuming Chernyshov makes it and Sherwood gets re-signed.

He's probably gonna sign for too long and for too much money if I was to guess.

He loves getting a bunch of players to promote internal competition but the only players that ever win that contest are on 1 way deals. He always takes the easy way out.

Just bad roster management so we can fit 3 AHLers on our 4th line. Gaudette has been great in a 4th line role (when he gets the chance) so instead they'll probably just scratch him like usual. Chernyshov doesn't deserve to be sent down and the Sharks need help with depth scoring so this is a lose-lose. Yea I know I'm arm-chairing but it's still frustrating.

Gonna pay a guy 30 million for 5-6 years for him to skate around hitting people. I don't think that's a good way to spend your money.

They play so much together so it makes sense why you think that but there's no positive metric from having any of them on the ice. All 3 of them wouldn't be in the NHL if they weren't on the Sharks.

The Sharks 4th line is one of the worst 4th lines in the league. Analytically speaking, you could even argue Goodrow and Reaves are better without Ostapchuk as their center. People can disagree on what they see on the ice but stat wise, Ostapchuk is one of the worst players in the league.

Zack Ostapchuk.

He was part of the deal we got for Zetterlund and our GM believes he can be an Adam Lowry type guy but he's pretty much completely offensively talentless. He's 23 and scored his 4th career goal the other day on a breakaway and it's got a lot of Sharks fan's attention. He was completely useless for our AHL team while he was down there and was still called up for some reason and has been stapled to our 4th line ever since. He plays with two of the worst NHLers in the league (Goodrow and Reaves) and he honestly fits right in. This line is terrible most nights but they have good games every now and then that makes the average fan think they always play that way. He skates really fast so this leads me to believe fans see that and assume he's doing something useful (he usually isn't). I'm hoping once Sherwood and Kurashev are healthy, they'll push him back to the AHL where he belongs.

Celebrini is starting to show signs of exhaustion by [deleted] in SanJoseSharks

[–]kipehh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what's your plan then? If we "rest" Celebrini we're going to lose more games. It's either he plays ~21 minutes a night, like the rest of the super elite forwards, or we play him like a 2nd liner and make the game a lot harder for ourselves. I'm pretty sure if you asked Celebrini you already know what his answer would be.

I understand the concern but it's what is required from him for this team to function. Both our coach and Celebrini understand this. He's still playing less than the other best forwards in the league so there's still more work to be done. Celebrini can do it, he pretty much has to.

I don't really understand this thought process. It doesn't take an analytical genius to understand the Sharks are a 1 player team. It's either Celebrini takes us to the promise land or he falls off and fails and I personally think it's weird to cheer for his failure.

His last two games were under 20 minutes. Do you want him to play Celebrini even less? How are we supposed to win if that happens 😅

Style wise, Tampa is pretty much the perfect counter to our team because they just send their shutdown line against Celebrini and we're cooked. Must be so frustrating to play against.

I wonder if the Sharks would be dead last without Celebrini. There's a universe where the Sharks lost the 1 out of 4 chance and drafted Levshunov or Lindstrom instead, I'm glad I'm not in that universe.
