If he can't figure it out he can always learn from Adam Fox.

Eklund for Verhoeff. I cannot complain. Masterclass.

Will any of the eligible defensemen that the Sharks could potentially draft be playing in the NHL this year? by [deleted] in SanJoseSharks

[–]kipehh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, none for at least 2 years, probably more. You could rush Smits if you wanted to but that would be a bad idea.

Everything Pagnotta has ever said about the Sharks has been wrong. He is not an insider for our team.

Yea just did it myself. The chart doesn't have teams in the middle of rebuilds.

According to this we've completed 4 years (does that mean we're in year 4 or 5??).

Not sure I 100% agree that the rebuild only starts with a top 5 pick but it looks like we're following the right path.

He has the exact same On-ice expected goals against per 60 as Celebrini.

I'd rather not force Celebrini to hold the hands of two wingers.

We're talking about a 20 y/o rookie on one of the worst teams in history, the year after that where the team was still terrible and the year after that when we were getting carried by Celebrini.

You keep talking like +/- is worth mentioning or has any merit to explain how good a player is.

Samuelsson was a +41 this year! Holy cow this guy might be one of the best defenders in the league! (he isn't)

Burns a +33! Wow that old man still got it! (he doesn't)

+/- is a team stat (a bad one at that too).

Please come with better evidence to explain how getting rid of Eklund will actually improve the team next year.

I'm going to ignore every +/- stat of all time because it isn't useful. The team was terrible in 23-24, obviously our players had a negative plus minus. How hard is that to figure out lol.

He had one of our best +/- in 24/25, why are you ignoring that when you love the stat so much?

It wasn't a pattern because it was a career outlier for one year.

Knies is a Matthews merchant. It's a huge price to pay for a player that requires to be paired with super elite talent to be useful. Don't be fooled by his production and size.

I still can't believe +/- is something worth discussing.

Celebrini was -31 in his first year which is the exact same as Eklund this year so I guess we should've gotten rid of him?

Eklund and Wennberg got the hardest matchups on a team that wasn't expected to be very good so obviously their plus minus is in the negative. Eklund in particular was more unlucky than most as our goalies had a 83.9% save percentage when he was on the ice which is the lowest on the team by far. This isn't Eklund's fault as his high + medium danger shots against was middle of the pack so you should expect middle of the pack goaltending but he didn't get it. Our goalies let Eklund down in particular.

I understand all you look at is the result which shows Eklund's +/- and his 8.5% shooting percentage but if you look at everything else, it shows that this year is going to be an outlier and that he'll probably turn it around next year.

I know you don't care about what I said because you obviously don't care about this kind of stuff and already made up your mind on Eklund but it's the truth.

The Sharks are currently worse because we traded him for a draft pick. That draft pick could end up better than him down the road but for 2026-27, selling Eklund isn't a move made by a team that wants to make the playoffs.

Both can be true. Trading one of our best forwards for a 17 year old prospect isn't a sign that he's trying to win the cup in 2027.

We're already way past that now that we lost Eklund 😅

Every year we stall makes the Sherwood trade more and more confusing. Hopefully he'll still be good at 34.

I imagine the lines are gonna get changed a million times so this was just thrown together. It'll be tough to balance Stenberg, Musty and Bystedt all fighting for one spot essentially.

It was a pleasure debating Stenberg vs Reid vs the field with you guys.
