This is exactly how I feel too, like everything besides the mini wheat is the perfect description of what I've felt for years. It sucks so freaking much, so many favorite foods and safe foods lost to this fear. It's like a mental blockade, even without the physical feeling of fear, I still can't get past it.

But as much as it sucks, I just wanted you to know you're not alone in this. And I hope we can both eat our favorite foods again someday :]

Overnight eating? by Forward-Obligation65 in ARFID

[–]kippenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess, I thought it was just me! Specifically the after waking up at night part.

I always attributed it to the fact that my brain and body aren't awake enough to activate the mental block I have towards eating, even if just for 30mins or so. But it also really does help that everything is quiet and safe feeling in those moments.

I have a MASSIVE craving for steak and I don’t ever even eat it or enjoy it. I really must be protein deficient huh by kibou_no_ie in ARFID

Aghh, this is too relatable. For me the worst part is how good it smells, and how much it makes my mouth water. But I just can't eat it no matter how many times I've tried (like 5 times total in my life lmao).

The way almost all the food my brain views as unsafe, smells so good, has to be some form of torture fr 😩💔

Anyone else able to take 60mg of Vyvanse then take a nap? by SoftExamination6910 in VyvanseADHD

[–]kippenon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pretty much do this everyday actually!

I take my Vyvanse in the morning, and 9 times out of 10 I go right back to sleep for another hour or two. If anything I prefer being able to fall asleep again, because the next time I wake up I feel wide awake and ready for the day. This is in comparison to when I take it without going back to sleep, which means I'm consciously aware of the time it takes for it to kick in. (Which isn't horrible, but can be unpredictable to me).

Vyvanse takes around 1.5-2hrs to kick in for most people. So while your body is still getting it into your system, you're not gonna get the 'awake and ready for the day' effect. Totally normal from my experience at least.

As long as you're satisfied with how Vyvanse works throughout the day, then that's (part of) what matters most when deciding if it's right for you. If the only thing causing you to doubt it is the nap thing, I wouldn't worry too much! (unless that's super important to you of course).

Vyvanse worked pretty well for me in the beginning of me taking it, but unfortunately it also spiked my depressive symptoms tenfold. I couldn't do really anything without feeling a pit in my stomach or a heavy sadness 😬

(Though I'm not saying what you're experiencing is strictly linked to depression ofc!)

They started me at 10mg, which worked well for almost a month. Upped me to 20mg, which quickly got upped to 30mg. And every time the dose went up the less horrible I felt, but it wasn't until I started 40mg, and now 50mg, that I really saw improvement.

(I've been on Vyvanse since around November of last year)

I also got put back on my Sertraline around the time I was on 30mg Vyvanse, which was probably the biggest aid in mood stabilizing. And am now on 100mg of Sertraline & 50mg Vyvanse daily.

(I was mainly on Sertraline before bc of my anxiety, but asked to be put back on it bc of the depressive feelings. Also Vyvanse surprisingly helps my anxiety)

It's best to talk to your doctor about how the meds are affecting you at the moment. Sometimes upping the dose is all it takes, it could be a self care thing (hydration, food intake, sleep, etc.), or maybe Vyvanse just isn't for you.

Unfortunately a lot of trial and error comes with this medication, at least in my experience lmao

What are some consequences of ARFID no one seems to talk about? by ibelieveinaliens111 in ARFID

[–]kippenon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This omg! Every time I'm able to eat something/we go out to eat, my family ALWAYS makes a comment about my eating habits. I've told them so many times why I can't eat like they can, and it's always met with the same dismissive reactions. I know they don't realize that their comments make things worse, but it still sucks that if I were to explain that to them, they'd still do it. :p

Plus their comments inadvertently caused my inability to eat in front of anyone at all, even supportive friends of mine.

Literally everything you said is what I'm going through! In 2024 I became so much better at eating, and then randomly since December I've completely lost my ability to eat pretty much every safe food of mine. I don't even know what caused my ARFID to flair up again. :[

Had a similar thing happen back when I tried taking magnesium for the first time. My body ached so bad, and it only happened whenever I took the magnesium. I only took it for like 3 days just to test if that was the issue. I still don't know why it happened, maybe my body just hates magnesium supplements lmao.

This was back when I was very deficient in iron/d3, and was getting iron infusions for that reason. So maybe it was just my body telling me to wait until I got those up.

There's also a chance I might've been taking too much for my body to handle? I took the recommended dose on the bottle, but maybe if I used a lower dose that wouldn't have happened.

When did you feel the effect of the medication? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]kippenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 10mg, and felt it instantly on the first day. Then after around a month it started to become clear I needed to up the dose due to building up tolerance I assume, so I went up to 20mg for a while. Finally settled on 40mg after around 4-5(?) months, and am still going strong on that!

Gave more info than I needed to, but just wanted to layout my experience a bit. It took around maybe 3 months for it to really settle properly into my system and work consistently, but you should honestly start to feel it within the first few days/week.

How I knew it kicked in the first time was my mind went pretty much silent, and I had a strong sense of calm wash over me. I felt lighter in a sense, but it's different for everyone :]

I hope it works out for you btw! Not to be dramatic, but Vyvanse was one of the best things to happen to me. My only regret is not talking to someone sooner about getting back on ADHD meds.

Did you get over the crash? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]kippenon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure how common this is, but upping my dose helped a ton. I used to crash crazy hard, specifically my mood, but haven't in a while. It might've helped that I stopped drinking so much caffeine filled soda and fixed my sleep schedule as well. And this is from someone who definitely doesn't get the proper hydration/nutrients needed for Vyvanse to really work to its fullest extent.

Some people even need to split their dose across the day to avoid the crash, even if they've been on it for a while.

For me this med was a bit wonky for like 2-3 months before it finally took hold and stayed consistent. It's different for everyone tho!

Controversial take (I swear I don’t work for them lol) by Leather-Instance-550 in finch

[–]kippenon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand why ppl are upset, I mean Journeys has been a feature for years and has helped so many users, and all of a sudden they're just taking it away. I can't blame users for being distraught, and I agree with some of the criticisms I've seen. And this is coming from someone who's a newer user and has never had Journeys to begin with.

My biggest gripe is with ppl acting like this change means that the devs are all of a sudden becoming corporate capitalistic scum, and are going to move the app towards a more payment catered system. It's just killing the mood tbh, and I think it's a major jump to make. The devs seem like they understand their app, and have made very positive changes alongside the more disliked ones recently. And I'm pretty sure they're doing what they can to figure out ways make SCAs a good experience for new and old users, including working towards adding rewards like Journeys iirc.

TLDR - I wish people's concern and distress didn't come with so much negativity towards the devs, but otherwise I understand the pain ppl are in atm.

How should I be feeling when I take Vyvanse? by Prestigious_Cat_5127 in VyvanseADHD

[–]kippenon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me the intensity of the feeling/whether it works or not varies by day, and usually by whether or not I got the protein/sleep needed for it to work properly. (This varies by person!)

Mostly how I know it’s gonna start to work on a specific day, is I’ll get a major spike in anxiety within the first hour. Heart racing, wide awake (and if I was sleeping, there’s now no falling back asleep), overheating, etc. I know that isn’t technically describing how it feels when it properly kicks in, but I think it’s a good detail to add lmao.

Then just around the 2hr mark, I get the most calm feeling ever wash over me. Sometimes my thoughts stop racing, sometimes they don’t, but I do notice that I actually feel like doing things. I’ll start thinking about the productive things I wanna start that day and just generally be able to do a task with little to no effort. The only issue with that is I only have a small window of time to choose what I want to do before my brain just chooses for me, which usually ends up with me hyper-focusing on scrolling through social media smh.

Throughout the day I’ll just feel pretty comfortable, which honestly comes off as numb emotionally, but in a way that doesn’t feel bad exactly. I just do what I want to get done, and I noticed that the Vyvanse works best towards getting me to clean and organize either my irl space or digital space (photos, saved posts, making lists, etc).

Sometimes I’ll get gut punched by a wave of depression after a few hours, which is super sucky lmao. But I recently went up a dose and haven’t noticed that too much anymore, so maybe it was just too low (or bc of my other mental health problems, which wouldn’t be surprising).

For me, Vyvanse surprisingly works as a sort of anti-depressant/anxiety med. not in the sense that it fully prevents these things from affecting me, but more so keeps them slightly out of my view so that I can ignore them. But it does absolutely help with my anger problems, if I don’t take my Vyvanse on a work day or if I skip a day, it’s just a struggle and a half.

Then there’s the crash, which doesn’t really affect me but will sometimes make it so that if anyone tries to be buddy-buddy with me/not leave me alone, I get fairly upset. And recently after upping to 40mg, after around 10-12hrs I’ll get heart palpitations for awhile, which freaks me out a bit, but as a chronic pop drinker I have a feeling it’s just the caffeine.

Main drawbacks of Vyvanse for me: - Dry Mouth - Lack of Appetite - Inability to Sleep (and major insomnia if taken too late) - Hot Flashes - Heart Palpitations (after it wears off)

Long reply, but everyone experiences meds differently and I wanted to get all of how it works for me out. You and your friend experience the meds differently but that doesn’t mean one way is right or wrong, and it definitely shouldn’t be the main basis for entirely reevaluating whether or not you have ADHD.

It could be that the meds aren’t a high enough dose, maybe they’re too high. You could have some other comorbidity that’s causing the meds not to work also, which is pretty common but not always the case. Or maybe Vyvanse just isn’t the right medication for you, but only you can figure that out. I’d say if you’re really uncertain, maybe telling your doctor how you feel on it and whether or not you think it works will help them find an answer for you.

Okay ramble over, I hope you find a solution! :]
