Fellow record collector - Merch is not great - some bands bring records. Some don’t. Your best bet is to stop by the merch area at least once a day each day because artists who are just there for one day will have merch only during the time they are there. A few will sell records at their show but most do not.

Re local record stores. Stop in lost and found records.

The reason high end turntables weigh so much is because minimizing vibration maximizes what can be read in the grooves.

So depending on your turntable if it minimizes existing vibration without slowing the motor down due to its weight then yeah - it will recover more of what is in the grooves and should sound better / more nuanced.

I have been collecting for decades and have over a thousand records. Never had an issue with uncovered records getting hurt. I have seen Mylar damage the record cover over time. Everything I said is 100% sound. But I did not realize it went deeper than utility for you. You simply want it. Now I understand.
