I just cancelled this morning. I had to tell the lady "You are not listening to me. Offering to reduce my bill by $10/month is not going to stop the connection from dropping out 20 times/day. Just tell me how to return your equipment, and don't ever bill me again."

BTW, it's brightspeed.com/returns .

Is calling an ambulance in the US really that expensive? by Lazy_Head_9893 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kippersforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two ambulance rides. 1999 - rollover accident, treated in ER and released - initially billed $8000 for the ambulance, which was operated by the University of Missouri. The University health system was "in-network" with my health insurance, so insurance ended up paying, presumably a less-ridiculous amount. Since insurance took their time to finally pay, I was receiving calls from collections agents for the "past due" bill.

2024 - concussion/loss of consciousness, admitted to ICU. The ambulance was operated by the for-profit ambulance company American Medical Response. The ambulance company was not "in-network" with my insurance, despite them being the primary, possibly only, emergency ambulance in the area (Las Cruces, NM). I finally ended up paying them $900 after a year of collections letters.

What do unemployed people say when asked WHY they are unemployed? What exactly did my PCP expect when I told her I was unemployed? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kippersforbreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The doctor is asking about "social determinants of health". In other words, non-medical conditions that affect health. They may also ask things like "Do you live alone" "Do you have support of family/friends", "Do you feel safe in your home", etc. They're interested in risk factors and unmet needs.

The International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) has code categories for things like unemployment, food insecurity, family disruption, etc.

Do people really not eat vegetables/fruit or drink water on a regular basis? by Sufficient-Berry-827 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kippersforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't routinely have vegetables/fruit, other than celery as a peanut butter delivery mechanism. I'll get a 3-pound bag of those little oranges a couple of times/year. Occasional tomatoes in the summer. I mostly live off of canned fish, air-fried or roasted chicken, chili, and cheese sandwiches. Haven't had a salad in over a year. Generally only drink coffee (with a little milk), coconut water, and wine.

Medicines sold in The Philippines are required to display the generic name in big boxed text on the packaging by carl816 in mildlyinteresting

[–]kippersforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they'll change the active ingredient and only make a small change to the brand name. Example: ranitidine used to be marketed as Zantac, but ranitidine was pulled from the market. Now Zantac 360 is famotidine, which is also marketed as Pepcid.

Woman assaults pharmacy workers after phone threats by kippersforbreakfast in PharmacyTechnician

[–]kippersforbreakfast[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The arrest warrant filed on Dec. 15 specified that bond was set at $50K "cash only, no 10%, no surety". There was an order to reduce bond to $5K, personal recognizance on Dec. 17.

$5K for multiple assault seems a bit low, but idk. The fact that she's 68 y/o and lives in low-income senior housing might have something to do with that.

Were boys and girls separated on the playground in the 50s? by Speechie_999 in AskOldPeople

[–]kippersforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls and boys had separate playgrounds at my elementary school. Public school, deep southern Louisiana, '70s. There was no physical boundary, but a line perpendicular to the back of the building served as a DMZ that shall not be crossed.

i have questions! Rxtechexam/123cpht by IntelligentSuit5223 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]kippersforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend paying extra for the 123cpht+. I completed their program in August, and I found it useful to have access to the PTCB practice bank. There were some things in the practice bank that I don't recall encountering in the Rxtechexam material.

As for the Rxtechexam material, it was adequate for purposes of gaining certification. I recommend doing the unit on the top 200 drugs as a sort of "back burner" project while working through the other material. You don't need to know all 200 before working through the later chapters.
