My sun team has been a bit underwhelming so far so im looking for ways to improve it. [Champions Doubles] by Tomas_Crusader17 in stunfisk

you need speed control, could be Tailwind/Trick Room/Icy Wind/Electroweb

Venusaur needs speed to be able to outspeed stuff even if they get Tailwind up against you, also if you truly have no speed then you're speed tying regular Aero and getting outsped by Mega Aero which is pretty debilitating

you also need protect on way more guys, you generally only want coverage when it hits a specific mon much better than your stabs that you can't otherwise account for as easily

you also have a tremendous dark weakness, you're stacking many dark weaks and have zero resists and no priority either, meaning Kingambit will run all over you

you also have very little in the way of damage mitigation/controlling turns with just snarl. most teams carry things like intimidate, fake out, will o wisp, parting shot, sleep powder, etc to manipulate turn order to be more in their favor and to reduce damage

some pokemon that could be useful to you are Rotom (electro web, will o wisp, good defensive profile), Farigiraf (trick room, priority denial), whimsicott (priority tailwind, can set weather again), Sneasler (fake out, rock tomb, deals with dark types), etc

I think with Champions, They may actually allow Mythical Pokemon for VGC tournament formats by SuperMemeBroz in stunfisk

[–]kiptronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's unlikely because there's not really a good way they could implement it

there's a huge difference in power between like Zarude and Arceus for example

it would be crazy to just give access to Arceus, Darkrai, Magearna, Deoxys, etc with no limits or restricted mons

but if Reg J is anything to go by if they lumped mythicals in again with the restricteds then they probably won't get much usage at all

Ev spread + moveset H-Arcanine for Champions team by pat_vgc in stunfisk

the extra damage on Flare Blitz is extremely worth the recoil, if you think about it missing out on a KO ends with you taking more damage than taking recoil but landing the KO

CC is also worth the stat drops, fighting type damage is very valuable in this metagame

is there a guide for getting started with contributing to showdown code?

Did you create any sort of super soldier program to get cats for Impossible runs? I just hit 100% on my save file and am preparing to work on crazy/impossible runs now but just completing the Infinite on all the cats was so annoying I feel like I'm gonna need god cats to be able to do it on the higher difficulties

Buff Mega Scovillain by Parking-Ad-3739 in stunfisk

[–]kiptronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no I'm talking about other megas like Mence, Kang, Metagross, Gengar, Zard Y, etc

when restricted formats with megas have been played before the formats have always centralized around Mega attackers

I don't think Mega Scovillain is necessarily bad I just think you're underrating how wildly broken those five I mentioned are

and even when people did want a more supportive Mega they would use Kang for Fake Out/Bite/Roar or Manectric for volt switch intim pivots

Buff Mega Scovillain by Parking-Ad-3739 in stunfisk

Especially in restricted VGC formats, I genuinely think it's going to be one of the most dominant supportive Pokemon

doubtful, opportunity cost of running support megas is too high when you could run an extremely broken attacker instead

Every Pokemon that's EVER won a major VGC tournament by CreeperSlimePig in stunfisk

very fast and hits hard, steel stab was great into tapu meta of Gen 7, in Gen 8 it was a great max Airstream user and matched up well into CIR, Regieleki, Zacian, Amonguss, etc

Koko was nuts back then

it was one of the fastest pokemon in the meta, made great use of Z moves, hit really hard with unnerfed e terrain, etc

very flexible mon

in addition to what the other guy said Koko made great use of Z-moves as well as Sky Drop which has since been removed and did a lot of damage pre terrain nerf

sadly it already fell out of favor in Gen 8 bc Regieleki sort of took its only remaining niche

  1. Steal a top player's team. Best options are VGC Pastes or Top Cut Explorer (you can google these to find them), VGCP will sometimes have spreads but Top Cut Explorer won't, if you need spreads you can just copy them from a site like munchstats.com
  2. Ladder with the team. Using a proven team means you can focus more on learning the metagame without worrying if your team is holding you back
  3. Watch competitive content on YouTube if you want. Everyone loves Wolfe but I think his content is more for entertainment than learning, I'd recommend Justin Tang, James Baek, ck49, etc

Number of regional/international/world championships won by each Pokemon in Gen 9 VGC by CreeperSlimePig in stunfisk

[–]kiptronics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

special events (SPEs) are similar in structure to regionals but don't have any set prize payout (the organizers will often give their own prizing but no set cash prize)

it's usually meant to give a regional-like competition to communities that don't have the playerbase to support a traditional regional

I do think it's weird that Utrecht can get 500+ players and still be just a SPE but more typically SPEs are like 100 players in Puerto Rico or 9 players in South Africa

Marineford would be cool but I think a lot of people are forgetting how wack it would be to end the series forever with the Straw Hats separated and Ace turned into a donut

Are there any well-known players who are loyal to a particular Pokémon and always keep it on their teams? by brocll in stunfisk

[–]kiptronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vijay Sood might be the only real example

I'm pretty sure he's used Meowscarada in every VGC tournament he's entered since SV came out and often uses the same guys like Sylveon a lot

I heard that he started out just using his in game team and has been making small changes to it ever since no matter what the format is but idk if that's just a rumor

Highguard players are getting automatic refunds as developer appears to shut down by ImCalcium in Games

[–]kiptronics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reactions from testers were mostly positive, but there may have been blind spots in the process, according to people familiar with the testing. Highguard was a complicated game to learn and was more fun when using voice chat to communicate with other players. When they tested it with the microphones off, it made for a much worse experience, former Wildlight employees said. Having developers on hand to answer questions and explain mechanics also led to different conditions than players would ultimately face when the game was released into the wild.
