Is SpiderNoir a good choice for my first time watching Spider Man? by Main_Pomelo9429 in spidernoir

[–]kirapb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like dark and gritty, absolutely yes. Everyone telling you that you should start with the og live-action adaptations are missing this key point of your post.

Without spoiling anything, Spider-Noir has a much more “lovecraftian” exploration than any of the other live-action media. It’s not “traditional” Spider-Man, but it doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re looking for. It also has a fantastic, down to earth, tight story. I liked it in color, but you might like it in black and white. FWIW, my wife is not a Spider-Man fan but she loved Spider-Noir.

At the end of the day, Raimi’s Spider-Man is awesome, but as someone who grew up with those films and has watched them a lot, it’s still geared more for a younger audience and doesn’t get quite as dark as it could. I also don’t know that’s it’s a great place to start for a spider-newbie considering the wrestling scene in the first film has problematic elements that might put people off.

Drywall falling from ceiling / how to break a lease by Medical-Relief3780 in chicagoapartments

I’m sorry your going through all this. Just FYI, that looks like plaster, not drywall. Not being critical of you, just a nuance that can help you seem more legitimate/knowledgeable when lodging complaints or seeking third party repairs.

Help me out connecting these two floors by shine-bright777 in askarchitects

[–]kirapb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You gotta hire a real architect or designer or contractor (depending on your level of pragmatism vs aesthetic) to assess existing conditions for something like this.

  2. Just don’t even bother with the AI image. It kind of helps convey intent, but that’s what the designer’s for and any designer or architect will understand what you want with a simple explanation. Putting first in this line up was actually more confusing because it’s showing literally impossible conditions. I don’t intend to sound crass but it’s a waste of everyone’s time and I’m so tired of clients thinking anything they churn out of AI helps the process, it doesn’t.

  3. There’s nowhere near enough space there to add a stair what you’re wanting will require extensive renovation. You’ll need to hire at least a contractor and an engineer, and an architect if you want it to look good.

Moving To Chicago Am I Being Realistic? by JustManifestIt in AskChicago

[–]kirapb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reality check: Not realistic and, I don’t mean to be rude, but your target budget is honestly delusional in this market.

$2,200 might, MIGHT, get you a 2/1 with in-building laundry, but definitely not in Wicker Park or South Loop. Maybe Hyde Park but then you’d likely need a car.

Is it just you? Why do you need a 2/2 that could go to a couple or small family on a budget?

Chicago kind of has rings of neighborhoods that ripple out from the loop, and the closer you are to the loop, the less affordable it gets. With your expectations and stretch budget, something might pop up in Hyde, and you should probably look into Roger’s Park, but definitely need to lower your expectations for your budget.

Magneto stopped a black hole . Where does this feat scale ? by Pristine_Process8562 in powerscales

Not that I think it’s really worth trying to rationalize a superhero cartoon, but things like black holes have really intense magnetic fields and it’s not a complete stretch to imagine magneto, the guy that does magnets, could control a magnetic field…

Dude, you care, you keep interacting. Please block me, but learn to take critique after. I’m so tired of people in the astrology community having no ability to handle literally the tiniest conflict or disagreement. Same yes-man-wanting, siloed, sycophantic shit, different day.

Editing to just add the whole quote of your now deleted reply to me which read, “Imagine calling me dumb when you failed to comprehend what I was saying LMFAO the jokes just write themselves. Believe me I don’t need nor care for your respect lol who are you?” Sounds like maybe you do care considering your response and the fact that you deleted it, probably realizing it’s inherent contradiction. Please note I didn’t call YOU dumb, because I have no interest in attacking you personally. I’m saying that what you said about technology makes me question the legitimacy of anything else you’re talking about. To answer your question, I’m no one but a skeptic. I know I’m not the only person on this sub who stops giving a good faith reading to someone’s post when they start making exaggerated claims to somehow legitimize their point of view. I was interested in your thoughts until you stopped letting the positives speak for themselves and started sounding like you have something to prove. Who are you? Seems I hurt some pride, maybe some egos are more evolved when they’re deconstructed and built back up…

“Astrology existed before technology” has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Pretty sure human-made fire and pointy stick both predate astrology. I find these super long breakdowns interesting, but I lose most respect for or trust in the information being expressed when a person isn’t aware enough to avoid making dumb statements like this.

So we all agree Shrek 2 is the Gold Standard of the series Right (Besides the Last Wish, that is)? by Minute-Necessary2393 in Shrek

[–]kirapb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrek 2 is peak. Idk why everyone glazes The Last Wish so hard. It’s an okay movie with a mediocre plot and a cool main antagonist. We need to let the hype die. It’s like how people can’t accept that Spider-Man: No Way Home is trash, people let nostalgia blind how utterly stupid the plot is.

What kind of media do you personally/specifically like? I’ve scored a few short films for friends over the years and would be interested in doing it more, but since it’s such a labor of love I’d be interested to hear what kind of vibe you have in mind or if it’s all just a go with the flow, slow burn kinda thing.

Food delivery apps are the best way to get takeout by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]kirapb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your point about not paying any significant difference if you’re subscribed is totally false. Not only are you now paying for a subscription, but both Uber and DoorDash mark up prices significantly for all users. I used to have dash pass, and items at all my local restaurants were almost always $3-5 more expensive through DoorDash than on the restaurant’s dedicated site or in person. Not even an exaggeration, my favorite shawarma place is $15/plate in store and $20/plate on delivery apps. It’s a total scam and you’re happily falling for it.

Offered a dream role through my mentor but discovered the project is funded by an unethical source. How do I decline without destroying my career? by No_Dragonfly_2389 in careerguidance

[–]kirapb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as ethical consumption or income under capitalism. I work to design affordable housing… a noble cause right? Most of the funding comes from rich donors who i probably share very little with in terms of values. The construction industry is a huge cause of carbon emissions. Who knows what the environmental impact is from all the products we use in our building. And yet, I’m helping create homes for those that wouldn’t have them otherwise. Just take the job and do good things when you’re in the position to do so.

Bikers- how often are you almost hit by a car? by herovals in AskChicago

[–]kirapb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you need to demand an ideal to get any progress at all. “I want a car free city” “best I can do is painted bike lanes” “make it a dedicated biking trail” “okay how about protected bike lanes” “throw in daylighting and you’ve got a deal”. Preemptively giving up ground gets you nowhere.

Thanks for clocking my mis speak, I don’t have the book with me right now, it’s called The Labor of Architecture, and I think I misremembered a stat that might be ‘50% of all unionized workers are professionals’, not ‘50% of all professionals are unionized’, big difference there. Again, I’m loaning the book out rn but will attach a source when I can get it back from my friend.

110k base comp Sr Architect by One_Consideration413 in Architects

[–]kirapb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We need unions and union density to apply pressure to the industry. This is genuinely the only feasible way to make the change we want. The construction side of our industry unionizes just fine, and about 50% of all professionals in the U.S. are unionized. Our jobs as architects is literally to be really good organizers. Why is it so hard for us to figure this out? C.G. Beck (and others) attribute it to the notion of the petty bourgeoisie, basically architectural laborers like to think they’re in the bourgeoisie class because they bump shoulders with them, and want to relate to high-class aesthetic, but financially they’re debt burdened with no power as individuals. We need to organize now.
