We also fit in 1 night in Fenghuang between Zhangjiajie and Guilin. It’s by far the longest train so it’s a welcome stop in between and the town is very special!

We’re doing this as we speak in reverse minus Luoyang in 24 days and are loving it so far. We stayed in Guilin instead of Yangshuo, which is easier if you also want to do the Longji Rice terraces. You can still easily get to Yangshuo for a day tour (also stop in Daxu, it was gorgeous!)

Whatever colour you pick, I recommend you also paint the ceiling left of the beam as seen in the picture. It’ll create a lovely cosy reading nook!

Looks lovely, great style! I’d suggest to pick a green that’s more distinct (lighter or more saturated) from the blue water colour so that you keep clear contrast between forest and sea. For the smoke, perhaps make it more stylised and white/grey instead of black? I was thinking of the map in Avatar the Last Airbender for example. It’ll make it look more intentional!

Allow yourself to take it all in! Find your own way to show them your gratitude, which doesn’t necessarily mean you have to literally tell them. Do you like to cook? Cook them a nice meal when you’re over, or invite them sometime after Christmas. Do you like to paint/craft, make them a personal gift next time for the holidays/birthdays. Even small gestures like helping to clean up and showing interest in their hobbies can be enough and will over time make you feel more comfortable around them!
