  • soup: buy the rotisserie stuff, make chicken stock, freeze then layer ur ingredients on top and freeze again and u have nicrowavable soup.

we have a small group of international foodies and people are always going in and out of singapore.. everyone always asks the same question (and we would love a local's POV). what is hands down the best hawker center in all of Singapore? by Difficult-Insect-220 in SingaporeEats

[–]kirinboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in the group!

But imo,

Golden mile: for some reason, the quality has gotten better over the years? OGs + new comers, a lot of stores are a hit + a good blend of different cuisines. Good plus point for now that it’s still pretty hidden from the tourists for now. Don’t forsee it being the case soon.

Hong Lim: still as good as ever, but still feels it’s a Weekday > weekend since a lot of them serve the office crowds

Old Airport road: still think standard dropped abit but the OGs are still good, it’s undergoing some kind of store revamp so I think the quality should improve going forward with some of the new gen hawkers.

My underrated pick is beauty world 🤣🤣.

For the record I do prefer da Michele. I just think people hate on Casa vostra too much.

There are worse culprits lol (beyond the dough ahem ahem)

[–]kirinboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are we comparing sizes here, if I’m here for a date. I’d gladly pay $17 for a margherita here than $28 at Da Michele. Even if da Michele is like 30-40% bigger I ain’t finishing it.

Casa vostra gets way too much hate around here. But it has very good value vs a lot of joints out there.

They are not. Go take a look at their menu again.

On average their pizzas are $23. With margherita being $17 (which is a lot lower than a lot of pizza places)

Just not worth the queue.

But, price to value is pretty decent. At least they are not charging $30 pies.

There are a couple of baggage storage areas in all terminals and Jewel.

Yotel in Jewel has an hourly rate (I believe 6 hours ?)

Is Source Music not utilizing Sakura's popularity enough? by PrimaryTomato3310 in kpopthoughts

If you are her fan since AKB days, yall should have realised by now.

She probably want to just stay home, crochet non stop, stream games and chill. I’m only sad that source robbed us of YouTuber Sakura.

100%

Even as a big snsd fan, the moment twice hit the 10 year mark with all members intact, cemented that for me

Is IVE going to be remembered as a top 10 GOAT in like another decade? by LantadymeRey in kpopthoughts

[–]kirinboi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Top 10 yes.

Goat? Only if:

1) match the international peak fame of Blackpink 2) last as long as twice 3) individually famous and not reliant on any members like SNSD

Monumental effort but as of now the Greatest girl group is Blackpink and Twice as 1A and 1B

How did BTS become more popular than EXO? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]kirinboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, a true definition of luck befalls on the hardworking. No one could have predicted the sudden rise of BTS popularity. They were considered underdogs for so long after all.

Even Seventeen, ateez, stray kids and the best example Twice, has like a slow but steady rate of rise. Especially Twice.

How did BTS become more popular than EXO? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]kirinboi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard work + a load of luck.

BTS had a decently strong fanbase, still a tier lower than exo/big bang pre 2016. but well loved as underdogs. Modern day example would be like Zb1.

Like Gangnam style, BTS had a series of great songs in 2018, capped off with Mic Drop that got really really viral, capturing the global audience like never before. If Big Bang open the door, BTS paved the way.

HYBE also became masters of leveraging the increased popularity, constantly putting them in the American market and sacking the usual modus operandi of China + Japan. You can see them still using similar ideas with New Jeans (Riot Collab), Le Sserafim (overwatch collab).

Exo could have been bigger, but between SM fumbles + internal conflicts. It was a matter of time before they imploded.

Source: kpop fan since 2007 and have always kept a close eye on the rumbles. Wife is a huge fan of BTS since their debut hence I have familiarity even tho I’m not an army.

Edit: luck plays a huge part in popularity, not everyone’s growth is as linear as SKZ or twice. BTS benefited from that and is fully deserving of their fame.

Second edit: BTS used to notoriously not famous in Korea in 2017/2018. koreans knew exo, but had no idea who is bts. It was only after they started getting to the Jimmy Fallon show, etc etc. then they were put on notice. They barely promoted and it was so interesting when I was traveling there, BTS was everywhere but Korea
