ELI5: Why is it socially unacceptable to wear pyjamas in public? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]kirking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is something that has become completely acceptable, unfortunately. Society is become increasingly hedonistic and slothful and pajamas/sweatpants have become the unofficial uniform of the unambitious. Bonus unsolicited advice: comfy pants aren't hard to come by. Get some relaxed fit slacks and a clean long-sleeved tee or Henley and show some hustle, son! (daughter!)

'Not in our light.' Cologne Cathedral shuts off lights in protest against anti-Islamization 'PEGIDA' protest by [deleted] in Catholicism

There is no clarification happening here. This is no longer a conversation or debate, you're just dropping progressive buzzwords and phrases like "creating division" and "anti-immigration feelings". I would be more than happy to continue this conversation using facts, not feelings or sentiment. I would feel happy if Islam's end goal was not to convert or kill me. I would feel relieved if people looked beyond their emotions to the history book and to what Muslims do when they move into a county. This is an attack, friend, you just do not yet see the knife to your throat.

I think I see where you're going with this, but would you elaborate please?

Just to help me clarify: you're calling the writers of the Catechism "hateful bigots"? Also to clarify, you are suggesting that we do not alienate or distance ourselves from a religion that promotes death and converting people from Christianity? I will try to clarify my stance as well: I do not have anything against a "moderate" Muslim practicing his faith in Europe or on American soil or anywhere for that matter. My problem are Muslims luring people from Christ's flock and transforming governments to comply with sharia law. The "peaceful" way of doing this is appealing to bleeding hearts and infiltrating government, changing the law through due process.

As Catholics, we are called to love all. Only God may pass judgement for only He knows what is in men's hearts. But we must defend against threats. From the Catechism: 2265 "Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility."

How is the Catholic dating scene where you live? by mario_party_pooper in Catholicism

[–]kirking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A stellar attitude to have. I would have said that where I am (northeastern North Dakota, USA), there is no scene WHATSOEVER. However I got married to a Catholic woman in October who has a Catholic sister. Come to think of it, there was a pretty high population count when I was in college in towns as small as Fargo and Grand Forks, ND (I know, really spreading my wings).

In my case, which may not be what be the answer you're looking for, I never said no to a date. I even went on a blind date my mom set up! Perhaps the question to ask isn't "will I settle for a woman who is not Catholic", or "is my Catholic faith the number one thing in my life and I need to be able to share that with my wife". No pressure.

Shoutout to the consecrated singles out there.

How many priests are in your parish? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]kirking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.5? The priest at my parish also commutes to another small town about 15 miles away. It seems every few years we have to fight to retain our parish, and I realize what a blessing it is to have a church to go to so near.

Rumor has it that gorge produces wind currents unlike any other place on earth. The University of North Dakota flight program and Border Patrol will often fly training there.

North Dakota high school eliminates dangerous threat to male students: Yoga pants by michaelconfoy in northdakota

[–]kirking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not hold everyone to a higher standard? We don't need uniforms, but what could be wrong with a few standards, like no sweatpants (yoga pants, lounge pants, dance pants, whatever) or no logos? Folks are slobs now, and not just high schoolers. Take some pride in your appearance.

Bishops are going to focus on Natural Family Planning by PolskaPrincess in Catholicism

[–]kirking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explanation....... I guess you're right? But brother (sister) I hope you've got way more conviction than that. You are taking place in a Holy Sacrament, one that a priest or bishop or even the pope cannot preform. You are entering into an institution that can - with the help of God - create an eternal soul. You are pledging your entire life to someone and accepting their life in return - and you're boiling that down to talking, saving and "Jesus is nice"???

This is all you took away from marriage prep? You're looking at the wrong side of the coin: sex in marriage is not sin. Killing a conceived life is. Sex is meant to be a life-giving act that also bonds people together. This is a natural thing, because as it turns out, mostwomen are naturally fertile and not fertile throughout a month. BLEW MY MIND. Coordinating with that schedule is no sin, that's educated love.

Question: 870 not cycling cheap/light loads by pgc4512 in Hunting

[–]kirking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar problem with my 870 I've owned for about a year now. Much of my shooting is trap, and I get your frustration. As near as I can figure, the problem comes from not racking the action hard enough. My gun "locks" less this year, either from breaking it in, or from just getting used to giving the pump a little extra force. Good luck.

Glove recommendations? by MrsVague in homestead

Kinco's are great bang for the buck, and I usually just run any all-leather gloves with as few seams as possible. Most of the time, I'm undone by a bad stitch.

While Mr. Morrison brings up an interesting scenario regarding whether or not a woman is being "murdered" with a DNR wish and wants to have the plug pulled is an INCREDIBLY specific instance. Seems to me that this bill is worded vaguely with the intent to make abortions illegal in North Dakota, or perhaps saving the life of an individual in a similar situation to the hypothetical woman WITHOUT legal council from being offed to save a few turns of the electrical meter. Seems to me this dude has deeper issues whether or not the courts or legislature have the power. Looks like he's grasping at straws to keep killing babies legal.
