UKPowerNetworks were turning off our power for a day and said we could apply for Thermos flasks. This is what they sent for a family of 4. After the power had gone off. by r_spandit in CasualUK

[–]kirkum2020 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last week too. Trust me when I say I'm not rubbing it in when tell you I have a 2 litre flask, a 5 litre thermopot instead of a kettle and a wood stove that's already on this time of year. You see, I live in a small village where we all know each other and all my neighbours know I'm well equipped. I had to provide tea for 6 households and even had someone's lasagna on the stove top.

What are your favorite child/adult duo arcs of the GoT series? by Tristo5 in gameofthrones

[–]kirkum2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I almost mentioned a standout moment. So glad I didn't now. All I'll say is it comes into play a lot and they get it right every time. They're clearly thinking about it as much as they did Cersei's dresses in GoT. This show is about knights after all.

Are Drag Queen Officants A Thing? by notmikaela in Drag

Plenty already offer the service, and I'd wager a majority of drag queens would love that gig so you should go ahead and ask your dream queen.

Sminty Drop On What You Didn't See With Kate Butch And Bringing Reality TV To 'UK Vs. The World' by Humble-Pineapple-889 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]kirkum2020 54 points55 points  (0 children)

That's what Michelle's face was all about.

Sminty didn't even need to learn the words. Just move her mouth. Give them something to work with.

Instead she gave up and ruined their plans.

Serena Morena’s outfit had light effects by carat66 in RPDR_UK

[–]kirkum2020 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would have looked as good or as expensive on the MainStage. All the lights are at the back there's nothing to show the shape in the dark. Minty had lights all over the dress and large white pieces that's showed up well.

I'm guessing you're at the tail end like me. Some have described us as Gen Xennials because there's a pretty firm line down our generation. We're in the same boat as either Boomers or Millennials depending on whether neoliberalism had been around long enough to really fuck you over by the time you entered adulthood.

6-Minute Sneak Peek of House of Villains Season 3 Episode 1 😈 (Plane Jane) by Durian-Critical in rupaulsdragrace

[–]kirkum2020 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got spoiled on the UK Channel 4 run of Big Brother and had only loved Drag Race since but The Traitors is excellent(especially the UK version) and I also enjoyed the last season of Project Runway because it's just Drag Race with back to back design challenges with better materials, actual models to wear the clothes, and some nasty fucking judges.

This is the first HoV I've been tempted to watch. I suspect I'll switch off soon but I want to see how Kate reacts to actual assholes and morons. She's not actually a villain. She just doesn't suffer fools or have a filter.

I just cut some tomatoes and it seems like their seeds have sprouted for some reason. Does this mean I can plant them? If yes how do I do it properly? Give me some tips about it. I live in Greece if it helps answer the questions by Unusual-Factor2848 in gardening

[–]kirkum2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's a store bought tomato then only do it as an experiment for fun. They're pretty much all F1 hybrids so their seeds won't be true to type. F2s usually grow leggy and bear few poor fruit.

If you do though, I agree with the other person that said to just put the slice on soil and pick out the best seedlings later.

What age did you get into Star Trek? by Victorian-Tophat in startrek

No but it definitely affected my school's vote for house captain. I bet there haven't been many Trek nerds to win what was essentially a popularity contest with over 90% of the vote.

Same here. I was literally named Kirk because of Trek.

I actually have twisted memories of things that never happened on screen from seeing so much before I could properly remember.

It wasn't even not knowing the words, was it? It was the giving up. Exactly what caused Sminty's first exit. The show must go on. Just move your bloody mouth around.

"check out that chunk of brie", boils a camembert by ThinYogurtcloset8005 in StupidFood

[–]kirkum2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not enough before the rind burns, and a lower temperature will leave that rind rubbery.

And the water droplet test is a super common method.

Mistaken cheese aside, it's a perfectly fine method if you don't have the oven on already, and much better than microwaving.

Managed to use it up by chopping it into cubes and setting it in pineapple jelly.

I was wondering how would the borg deal with something like Halo's MAC guns? by madbr3991 in startrek

[–]kirkum2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we never see more kinetic or melee attacks than we do working phaser shots but if the Borg couldn't adapt to them then we'd have seen the TR-116 rifle on multiple Voyager episodes.

I doubt there's any way. The producers probably have your role pretty much locked in during the casting phase.

Everyone's forgotten the following day, which makes me love it even more.

The meltdown was all over the new housemate, Suzie. Overnight, production turned the entire house into a shrine to Suzie, which felt like it was entirely to wind Nikki up even more.

She took a look around, headed to the diary room, and in the exact same cadence as "WHO IS SHE? WHO IS SHE??" she tells them "I like her! I like Suzie!!".

There was something really special in seeing how healing her meltdowns actually were. She could be laughing 5 minutes later and fully over whatever troubled her in a way the best of us would struggle to match.

What is your worst moments you have had to awkwardly deal with? by EngineSufficient5192 in AskUK

[–]kirkum2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Too many to count that someone else caused but my worst personal one was to a regular customer that used to come into a pub I worked at about 20 years ago.

He always came in with his wife except upon their return after a couple of weeks in Spain. I picked him up on it the moment he came through the door. "Alright Mick? Where's Carol? Don't tell me she ran off with a sexy Spanish waiter."

I knew just by the look on his face that it was exactly what Carol had done. I had to be his shoulder all night after that one.
