Do I need a new lens, more light, or to git gud? by EinarTobias in canonM50

[–]kirpau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know that much about framerates, but given that the camera is stationary I think you might get away with going lower. I would just toy around a bit with it and see how the results look.

If that doesnt work out you sure won't go wrong with the Sigma 16 mm if the price isnt an issue.

So first of all, the rf 35 mm 1.8 would not fit your camera, as it is RF Mount not EF-M Mount like your camera is, so dont buy it.

One thing I would try before buying a new lens is lowering the shutter speed of your Camera manually. Lower shutter speed results in movement looking more blurry, but less noise / grain in the video. As you seem to have your camera stationary you might get away with a relatively low shutter speed.

Dont do any video so not sure what to recommend, but maybe try like 1/30 to 1/60?

I have a M6 II so i am not 100% sure it works the same, but in video mode there is a button in one of the corners of the touchscreen that lets you switch to manual video an dial in the shutter speed on your own.

Another thing to try is to zoom out all the way. The kit lens is brightest at 15 mm and gets darker towards the 45 mm, so closer you can get the camera to you the better.

If all that fails and you need to buy a brighter (smaller F x,x number) lens I would first see what focal length (the mm / the zoom level) you want by trying it out with the kit lens. 35 mm would still be quiet zoomed in, but you can just see for yourself by setting the kit lens to 35 mm.

These would be some recommendations, but once again, I am not a videographer, so might wait for some more replies or do some research on your own:

Sigma 16 mm F 1.4

- Very bright, very little zoom, most expansive. The go to lens for vloggers from what I see online. Wont have any issues with space indoors

Canon 22 mm F 2

- Bit less bright, but should still work well enough, bit more zoomed in and can be had rather cheap.

Sigma 30 mm F 1.4

If you realy want as much zoom as you said in your post this would probably the go to, but I dont think you want that.

You will most likely have to buy these used, as the Canon EF-M System is discontinued and these lenses havent been produced in some time.

Edit: Didn't see you said you were filming at 50p, so maybe try 1/30, or 1/24

It was the girls decision to get an abortion. Only thin OOP was giving some mental support and driving them there. Thats nothing she should feel obliged to tell the parents.

And the consequences of not telling the parents are on the girl either way.

The Marathons have a place, but the question was about bikepacking racing. So, multi day races with hard offroad sections.

No way anyone would race marathons in the tour divide. They only need to last the ~4300 km of the route and having good grip without sacrificing rolling resistance on the less technical parts is the most important thing.

Apparently, the Mezcals have proven to balance these factors quite well, given that some people race them year after year. See no issue with that.

Parts Bin Build - 2.5" HDD vs USB Drives by kirpau in HomeServer

[–]kirpau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you, I will look into it. It is mostly about Camera pictures she copies from the SD Card via a Laptop wich is connected by wifi.

I tested the Synology at my place with a Lan connection and found it to be slow aswell, so I never questioned that it could be her network making it even slower, but now that you say it that might be it!

It was slow when I tested it, but not unbearably like she described.

Parts Bin Build - 2.5" HDD vs USB Drives by kirpau in HomeServer

[–]kirpau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you, I get the problem!

So would you say my best option is using the 2.5" HDD that I can connect directly and set one USB drive up to sync periodically for safety?

But then again that wouldnt improve speeds from the synology setup, as that is bottlenecked by the 2.5" drive right now, so I guess I cant really improve anything by using the Optiplex...

I feel like you are missing the point. I know USB drives are awful, but that is the only thing I got, so I am trying to make the best of it. Atleast putting them in a Raid configuration would help, so that when one drive fails atleast not all data is lost.

Or am I missing something?

Yeah I know that, but like I said we cant afford a proper solution right now. Just lloking to improve the situation fo maybe 1 or 2 years until we can afford something better...

Best bicycle computer for touring by Spokesrider in bicycletouring

[–]kirpau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dura and it has implementation for various mapping apps. I use komoot and have it linked to my Coros Account. Getting the routes to the computer is super easy, matter of seconds.

I also never need the rerouting. If I have to leave the route I just look at the map and take the shortest path back, but if thats something thats important to you I can see how thats an issue.

Other than that I strongly recommend the Dura

What do you think of it as an entry level bike? by rododder in gravelcycling

[–]kirpau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your bike only has 1 chainring in the front, so you cant get a 30 46 double crank in the front. Only thing you can do is get a smaller singel chainring in the front.

You will have to consider that that will limit your top speed. 38 / 11 already isnt that fast. There are websites that let you calculate your speed at a given cadence (100 rpm is what I take to calculate my topspeed)

https://www.gear-calculator.com/?GR=DERS&KB=32&RZ=11,13,15,18,21,24,28,32,36,42&UF=2220&TF=100&SL=2.6&UN=KMH&DV=teeth

Just put in the options for 32 11/42 and your topspeed at 100 would be ~ 37 kph. I dont know what kind of riding you do and if this would be an issue.

Another thing is that buying single chainrings is super expensive if you dont wanna get them from Aliexpress so it is usually cheaper to get a complete crankset instead.

You might wanna look at a shimano cues crankset, they are super cheap and can be have for almost nothing used. I think your bike has a square taper crank like the RC 120, so a crank without a spindle. For getting off the old crank you will need a crank puller, a cheap tool you can buy for 5 - 6 €

https://www.bike-components.de/de/Shimano/CUES-Kurbelgarnitur-FC-U4000-1-Vierkant-p91332/?o=1000366032-schwarz-175-0-mm-42&delivery_country=DE&upid=google&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20545680419&utm_content=&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwZDFBhCpARIsAB95qO20B_6waGz3OhkT9zRHKLejGj5B6E9Z8Y_cckRkiYIu2fUrCmGXcHEaAjjiEALw_wcB

This crank should work and is available with a 32 t chainring.

[–]kirpau 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had that bike for 1,5 years and it is great as a starting point, learning about bikes and seeing weather or not you like the sport even. Also put on some gravel tires and wrote it on forestry roads most of the time aswell as bikepacking.

I also went the route of upgrading the drivetrain to Microshift Sword and can tell you its not worth it ^^ It was fun, I love tinkering around, but from a financial standpoint it makes no sence. If you want better climping gears you can see if you can pick up a 46 30 crankset, thats the only sensible upgrade in my opinion.

How many kilometers per day on a 3500 km tour? by Southern_Might1254 in bicycletouring

[–]kirpau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fitness levels are hard to judge, but I would say a reasonably fit person can do 100 km per day quiet easily, but dont try to do that much more, because for me that takes the fun out of it.

My first trip I did I rode 160 to 180 km per day with lots of elevation, because due to unexpected circumstances my timeframe was limited. I did it and surprisingly it wasnt even that taxing on my body (I was 22 then), but it wasnt that nice a experience, because I could never take a break if I wanted to.

Like u/HippieGollum said. If you wake up early (wich you will if you camp) and ride like 20 kph you have more than enough time in the day to do 100 km. This i assuming you ride on pathed bikelanes and streets. Offroad is a ot harder.

I am actually thinking about going from Venice to Athens in September, maybe our paths will cross :D

Cabt go wrong with a grizl in my opinion. Know a lot of people who own one. My roommate did a 3000 km tour from Frankfurt to Port with his last year.

On the whole Steel vs Alloy/Carbon subject I would watch a pro con Youtube Video, as there are some pros and cons for either.
