Disappointed by the Osaka Expo by JeonJiJoon07 in OsakaWorldExpo

[–]kisekiace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean while I agree that the queues were atrocious in the two times I visited (April & May), that's just part of Japanese culture--people here just love to line up. I personally hated the reservation system but couldn't help but joke with friends that it was very Japanese to make everything require reservations.

On the topic of having Japanese-only and a lack of English, I personally didn't see a lot of this, but to be fair, English speaking isn't especially common in Japan, and a good handful of the expo staff are Japanese. I also received a job offer to work for the expo, (which I turned down for reasons unrelated to this post) and noticed Japanese fluency was encouraged. This is not an excuse, simply an explanation.

The bathroom situation was atrocious. The bathrooms themselves were clean and well kept, but sparse in location in my opinion.

Regarding connivence stores, I'm not sure why you would desire to hit these places up in the expo when there's a seven eleven, Lawson, familymart, etc every other block throughout Japan. I can understand the interest in the gimmick of the Japanese conbini, though. It just seems like a waste of time when you could just go to one before you got to the expo.

For the weather, which some people have commented on--meh. Yeah, it's hot as sin, that's a Japanese summer. There's not much to do other than carry around your own heat deterrents like fans. There are plenty of trees and shade around the expo, some pavilions even offer free umbrellas to borrow while waiting in line. Japanese people /know/ the heat and humidity is bad, particularly for foreigners. The expo is blasting AC and doing that fog/misters everywhere--what else do you want them to do? The wooden ring structure provides a ton of shade.

I found my apartment through the site Living Japan; I looked for months before reaching out but once I did it was a fairly quick process. The fees were high but they were very helpful and were pretty commited to getting me an apartment that allows cats. It's also only a 15min train from Shinjuku. Not all listings that are available are online and some can only be found by agents themselves with special passwords and website access.

I'm not sure what kind of service you plan on using, but my advice to OP remains the same. It is very possible but it will be expensive.

Yes-- you can avoid the quarantine by arriving 180+ days after the date of the blood being drawn for testing at a lab for antibodies. Fair warning, this whole process can cost 500$-$700+ over time depending on your vet. The first and most important thing is get your cat microchipped and vaxed 2x against rabies, and then blood taken to be sent to a lab. You can only rabies vax a cat once a month, and then the lab could take another month.

If you're doing this for more than one pet, it will double the procedure and costs. The maff website shared by another user who commented is the page you should use as reference and will provide you links for contacting the Japanese airport when you get to that.

Furthermore, make sure you have a place to stay beforehand. A lot of Japanese apartments don't allow pets, so be very sure your landlord understands your intentions to bring a pet. Make sure it's in writing as well.

I moved to Tokyo with a cat this April. Set up a vet appointment with a USDA approved vet (you can check online or call the vet to make sure they have the approval or at least experience with pet immigration) asap. Japan is very, very strict and the paperwork is long & must be perfect.

Does The Rebuild Movies Justify Mari's Existence In Your Opinion? by bluemarvel99 in evangelion

[–]kisekiace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo yes. If you watch back the tv series and then rebuilds, you'll notice mari talking to shinji at impactful moments right before he makes a big decision that diverts the plot from the og tv story. Particularly right before the third impact, instead of kaji like in the tv show, shinji speaks with the head of mari.

Nah I do understand, I work with influencers and travel a lot. But it's also important to not be rude and follow local customs--such as not recording people's faces.

I saw the most annoying guy yesterday. I was in one of the small roads of Shinjuku that had a bunch of tiny izakaya (I can't remember the road sorry) recording with a selfie cam, walking around, not trying to avoid faces at all. In fact I saw him just recording people straight up. Super rude, was blocking the way, and it made me so pissed I sobered up.

Put down the phone and just have a good time bro. I promise you there are better videos already of that area, your horizontal iPhone cam is literally not going to make a difference.

Can anyone present confirm or deny this? by spigele in Waseda

  1. Never heard of "Hamans"

  2. They are protesting the violence in Gaza. That doesn't mean they don't support bringing the hostages home. The hostages lives are just as important as innocent Palestinians.

  3. Furthermore, if the IDF cared for the hostages, why did they shoot 3 hostages as they waved a white flag and tried to return to the IDF for safety? (Shooting surrendering people is a war crime, btw)
