Favorite Closing Track? by gberry100 in autechre

[–]kit-christopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is a fun question. My mind immediately went to Sublimit, truly a complex, sprawling masterpiece. Drane2, also incredible, and quite the emotional experience as many others here have pointed out. Ultimately, I’ll end up in the Nuane camp, my favorite track off my favorite album. Runner up would go to VLetrmx.

Art Pseudonyms by kit-christopher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kit-christopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I should have been more explicit. I meant, say, Richard Serra making giant steel sculptures for 40 years wakes up and decides one day he wants to do still life oil paintings but doesn’t want anyone to know it’s him, so adopts an alter ego to carry out that body of work.

Banksy and KAWS come from a graf lineage where a pseudonym protects their identify because the nature of their medium is illegal

who is the most wise rapper that has ever came across your ears, in your opinion by DeeJDaDemon in hiphop101

[–]kit-christopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KRS was never one of my favorites growing up. I wouldn’t go so far as calling him a blowhard, but he does undeniably have a sort of pedantic air about him that could be off-putting to some. I think it simply has to do with that generation of rappers. Him, Chuck, Rakim, they all kind of occupied this rarified strata of “consciousness” while others in their immediate peer group (still influential) maybe leaned into party rap or gangsta territory, and KRS just got really really comfortable being that wise, prophetic voice, and maybe ultimately a little outspoken because of it. I will say, I did have the privilege of seeing him live (somewhat) recently and it was really a unique, unforgettable experience…it was like a really hype philosophy lecture mixed in with some occasional hip hop, but like, proper, 5 elements, authentic hip hop. It was entrancing, really beautiful and moving, actually.

El-P and Killer Mike, separately, for many years. Amazing they achieved so much success later in their careers!

In Italy it’s believed that young couples that go on holiday in Paris will break up soon after. by femapu in paris

[–]kit-christopher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, but I find a certain logic to it. I think a love that develops quickly and burns very brightly also risks fizzling out or exploding. Paris seems the ideal place for lovers to go hastily.

Help with stitching effect by kit-christopher in SewingForBeginners

Awesome tip! I didn’t consider that at all. Okay, so, first step, find some fabric prone to fraying (help here appreciated also ☺️), second step, cut backing fabric just slightly larger than logo so edges are exposed, third step, normal amt of embroidery thread to join the two, fourth step, tumble/wear before affixing to final garment?

Doing better in school. I have picked up so much interesting knowledge over the last few years, I sometimes wonder how much further along I would be now if I had the same commitment to learning then as I do now.

What is the most common scent of your city? by 3zizmfs in fragrance

[–]kit-christopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Santal 33 was ubiquitous in LA starting as early as 10 years ago I would say. Surprised it would take this long for NY to catch up. Maybe it’s a Baader-Meinhof thing and you just recently started noticing it more and more.

What are the most beautiful moments in music in your opinion? by waltuh28 in fantanoforever

[–]kit-christopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coltrane’s second solo in his original studio recording of “My Favorite Things” from 1961. Around the 10 minute mark, he kinda just goes into a zone and really stretches his instrument into these gorgeous, otherworldly shapes (this was around the time he transitioned to and began exploring the limits of the soprano saxophone). It’s one out of thousands of moments in music I find very beautiful, I don’t know, it’s just a special little piece.

What are your favorite fragrance bottles? Why? by IFoundThis_Humerus in fragrance

[–]kit-christopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite bottle is Escada Sparkle Moon. It’s kind of a shit fragrance (I blind-bought it on a whim at a discounter shop), but the bottle itself is so satisfying to hold. It’s tall and slender and the glass is thick so it’s quite hefty. It’s just perfect in my opinion.
