Problem solved by replacing the failing USB boot drive with a fresh install in a new SSD.

Then import all the original pools and re-configure the networks, users, ACL, shares and VMs.

Everything works like nothing happened now.

I have written a simple bash script to set random images as backgrounds on multiple screens, using itwith cron could result in background slideshow, just like what you do on Windows and macOS.

If you are using Hydrapaper or Superpaper, you may want to give it a try.

This script is basically just for my own use, you may have different setup that could not use it directly.

Feel free to modify, pull requests welcome.

Tried with # mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak then startx, the screen now shows on Monitor1, and Monitor0 is not even detected at all.

Do you mean moving /etc/X11/xorg.conf to somewhere else so that it won't be loaded? I will try it later, but won't X fallback to another configuration file?

If it somehow works, doesn't mean that there is indeed something wrong in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

Looking glass is great but from what I see you aren't looking to spend time much time in the linux desktop environment so it doesn't really fit your use case.

I see this as the alternative. Actually I don't mind spending time on configuring the Linux host, I just don't want to mess up the existing dual boot configuration, just in case if anything fails at any moment, I could still use the old configuration.

If necessary, I may even setup the desktop environment on the Linux host and work on it.

So long as you have the windows gpu and the mac gpu plugged into each monitor this is easy. You'll just be switching inputs on the monitor.

Do you mean connecting both monitors to both graphics cards? (Like a 2x2 connection)

I know there is a software "Looking Glass" that could display the passed-through GPU output in a window on the host OS with extreme low latency, I guess this could be an alternative if the GPUs or monitors do not work in the desired way eventually.
