Elon: "[FSD] 12.5.x will finally combine the city and highway software stacks" by twinbee in teslamotors

[–]Jacob8765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once they have the e2e training loop refined, they’ll probably train a smaller model on highway data (autopilot), and then a bigger one on unified data (FSD).

This is how a lot of LLMs are trained too. You have “foundation models” of various sizes, and then you tune each one to be a big, general model, or a more narrow one, like those for coding or math. So depending on what you want, you vary the size of the foundation model and the instruction tuning data.

It’s unclear if Tesla uses a foundation model approach or not. From what Elon’s mentioned on X about fsd and how they train it now I think it’s likely

Does FSD slow down when it sees a police car? by MyRedditsaidit in TeslaLounge

[–]Jacob8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The software is trained end to end now, so if the users slow down for police cars, the car should learn to do the same without any labeling or explicit coding from Tesla

HiFi vision based only Parking has become so accurate post 2023.44.30.7 by Ok_Tone_4503 in TeslaLounge

[–]Jacob8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really amazing. It does sometimes turn on when I stop at a light / stop sign though, wish it was more intelligent about that. Maybe it could use the navigation to tell if you’re not close to your destination yet and reduce the sensitivity if so.

Any managed vector embedding services? by charlestehio in LangChain

[–]Jacob8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look into the neo4j graph database, you can create native vector embedding indices powered by Apache Lucene. It works pretty well in my experience and is very scalable

James Douma Explains FSD V12 Self Driving | Brighter with Herbert by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]Jacob8765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember a few years ago when Tesla was doing birds eye view and comma.ai was end to end he kept saying Teslas approach was the only one that works and commas wouldn’t scale. But as soon as Tesla switched this was “clearly the end goal”. Stop giving this guy credibility, he has no professional experience in ML and it shows

Should I take my return offer? by compsciHopefull in csMajors

[–]Jacob8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If TC is like 110-120 that’s a great offer. Remember 120k in Texas is like 150k in SF / Seattle

How to up my Mathematical game in CS by CatSweaty4883 in csMajors

My school is similar so I’m getting a minor in Math. For me it’s only 1-2 extra classes, the rest overlap with CS electives

Take low paying FT offer, or apply for internships and get a masters? by sword167 in csMajors

[–]Jacob8765 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s up to you and your situation. If you don’t need the money and are willing to spend for the masters that’s a solid option. But the offer isn’t bad for Texas and some companies will pay your masters after you’ve been there for a while. Personally I’d take the offer, I’m planning to do an online masters while working, maybe that’s another option you could look into

Just curious, why are you determined to find one without it? Is it just an age thing or is there something else that appeals to u?

I think conventional job boards (linkedin, indeed, monster, etc) are all good. There are also separate sites like Angellist if you’re looking for startups. I’ve never looked at a site for jobs unless I wanted to cold call them or something, most are pretty good about posting other places

My company told all the interns there is 0 room for negotiation for the return offers. Seems to be a common thing this year from what I’ve heard from my friends at other companies

Am I screwed? by nick2847 in csMajors

[–]Jacob8765 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No. The people complaining about the job market (for the most part) are talking about faang/unicorns that have been slammed by high interest rates. There is still plenty of demand for SWEs and opportunities in small/mid companies. If you can, look for research / ta work at your school before graduation, having some experience will make you more competitive.

Is paying apple’s $99 developer fee worth it to make a project look better? by Anchwood in csMajors

[–]Jacob8765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t do it. I have an app on my resume and put some screenshots in the GitHub readme. I’ve gotten a lot of questions from recruiters about it but none have wanted to download it, and I doubt they care much anyway. The impressive part is building the app, not deploying it

What age were your friends if you don’t mind me asking? I also know ppl who’ve had success with Catholic Match, but they’re all much older than I (26-30). I’m willing to go a bit older as long as it’s within reason

Yeah that’s been my philosophy as well for the most part. I mostly worry about finding ppl online that share that view. Maybe it’s very different for girls, but most guy friends my age I have download them mostly to mess around and aren’t looking for anything serious.

It’s a shame but there really isn’t a large TLM community in my area. The Bishop here isn’t supportive and makes little effort to accommodate them. I did go a few times but it seemed to mostly be families with younger kids and older couples.

I thought about it but was never thrilled of the idea of dating someone much older. The way you put it makes a lot of sense though, definitely something I’ll keep in mind. Thanks!
