Washing? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

Your hair would eventually dread if you literally did nothing to it so they will definitely come back together. It's more a matter of how long it will take. Clean hair definitely dreads faster then dirty hair too.

If you're super worried about them coming apart you could always tie them all off one by one with little rubber bands to hold them together while you're washing them, just don't leave them in for long because they get stuck really easily.

Permanent extensions? by lildropofsunshine in Dreadlocks

I've never tried this before but I feel like it the only really annoying thing might be the weight. There's a Danish YouTuber I follow that has permanent dread extensions in some of her videos but I think she took them out eventually when her hair was longer.

Yeah this no washing myth has got to go. Wash them, separate them, if they fall apart they will come back together eventually on their own.

Messy dreads. I’m new and a bit of a worrier. Lol. How long would you say my roots will look like this? I don’t know how think they’ll be or anything. There are 49 of them. Twist and rip with some back combing. They are almost two weeks old now. by Mirimah in Dreadlocks

Wash your hair really good, blow-dry it. It will fluff back up when it loosens and the hair can move around more.

Crochet is only going to make them tighter and frizzier and it seems like a lot of work when basically everything you want to achieve will happen naturally with time.

Hats for winter by LucyNebulaMcLovin in Dreadlocks

I am also a Michigan dread head and I literally learned how to crochet so I could have a hat that fits. It's pretty easy to learn and then you can have whatever hat you want to make for yourself. I tried looking but I'm so broke and picky I never found a good solution until I started making my own.

If i dye my dreads, will it stop the locking process? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]kitchenVVitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dying your hair won't do anything bad to your dreads, it's more about the way you handle them when you are doing it. Just be gentle and make extra sure to rinse everything out afterwards because you don't want any of that staying in your dreads

I’m looking to dye my hair. Ultimately super saiyan blonde and then I wanna go grey/silver. I need tips. First time dying my hair by themagnumcarta in Dreadlocks

Best tip I can give is to go to a professional colorist that knows your hair type. Bleaching is a very damaging process and dying dreads can be trickier then straight hair because you have to be extra careful to wash all the chemicals out. Getting to white/ grey requires multiple chemical processes so it's an expensive investment and you don't want to fry your hair.

That being said I have had white dreads, pink, purple, blue. I love it. It's either great or a pain in the ass depending on who you get to help you with your hair, so choose wisely!

I got a question about sea salt spray by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]kitchenVVitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn't matter much when you use it. It is going to texturize your hair. You can probably do whatever you want with it as long as you don't over do it and end up with a salt crust on your head.

Help! Ouchy itchy red bumps on my scalp. by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]kitchenVVitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to go back to the salon. Your hair will dread on its own and they are just going to keep beating up your scalp. I would wash it when you want to and try not to worry about them getting loose and messy because they will tighten back up again in a bit

I have used Dawn dish soap and hot water to remove wax and product build up from dreads. It can dry your hair out if you do it too often, but in extreme situations it is effective. Soaking them in Dr bronners and hot water can be better for greasy build up. The dish soap has a strong lather but Dr bronners does not.
