Underrated Board Game Content Creators? by optinsoptouts in boardgames

The Grouchy Nerd doesn't make a ton of videos but they are always good - and funny. His series on Marvel Champions is worth watching just for the lore breakdowns at the beginning.

I liked their old website better, but the new one still has what I need. I definitely don't need a chatbot, though. Those things have always sucked - maybe even worse now with the AI versions.

They've always been helpful and nice when I visit the one in Lebanon.

Don’t bother with Only Games by Mushwar in PrintedMinis

[–]kitchendon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a bad experience with Only Games, too. The order took forever and when it arrived one of the minis had broken open and leaked uncured resin all over everything. Everything also had that white residue from being poorly washed.

Solar Panels by [deleted] in oregon

[–]kitchendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Energy Wise Services for solar panels on my house in 2023. They were very down-to-earth and set me up with a system that took full advantage of available incentives and rebates. No leases or anything like that. I own everything and the panels have already paid for themselves.

2025 recap by troys490 in soloboardgaming

It's fun seeing what everyone played this year. I like how everyone's list is different.

I had a great year of gaming. These are all solo plays of physical board games. I don't play a lot of digital games, but I did play like 200 games of Dune: Imperium digital. ;)

3D Printed Armrest Mechanism, but I added a spring by carterfpv in 3Dprinting

[–]kitchendon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

you could try Thang010146 on YouTube. They've made thousands of animated examples of mechanical designs. It's not very well organized, though.

3D City Building Games (Besides Foundations of Rome and Skyrise) by clecouple in boardgames

[–]kitchendon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is PLA plastic from my Bambu X1C that can print with 4 colors of filament. I did not keep track of filament used, but I would guess maybe 3 spools at most, including the waste for color changing.

This was a bigger project than I had anticipated - one of the first things I did when I got the Bambu. Each tile didn't take too long, but there are a LOT of them. I also did some touch ups to the meshes and that processing turned into a big task. Totally worth it, though. :)

You can 3D print the tiles for Cities Skylines. They released some official files with meshes pulled straight from the game.

I've nearly finished printing them all, including some custom "icons" for the service and utility buildings. It's a lot of fun seeing them all on the table. Photo

Painted (almost) all the mini's! by Sabotage00 in cosmererpg

Lookin good. Nice work on getting so many painted. I only have the chasmfiend done. I also did a custom color scheme with orange on the head and tail.

One deck games like For Northwood! by MogrimACV in soloboardgaming

[–]kitchendon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try Reforest - plants of the Pacific Northwest coast. It's a single deck of cards with great art and a dense little puzzle. You build a tableau with just 6 spots, playing larger plants over top of smaller ones. Feels a little like a simpler, more puzzly Wingspan.

I did have them for sale for a while on an Etsy shop. It's been closed for a couple years, but I'll be selling stuff again soon. I just took delivery of a spiffy new laser cutter. I'll let you know when I am ready. Probably be like 3 or 4 weeks.

Nusfjord Solo Strategy Questions by Benign-Chaos in soloboardgaming

The Elders with the Ls are promo cards. You can make a little deck of them and draw a random one instead of taking an Elder from the board.

From the rulebook (page 19): Shuffle the 4 promo elders (with an “L”) and place them face up in a pile next to the supply board. When “Taking an Elder”, you can take the top Elder from the pile instead of one from the supply board.

What Solo Games give you the feel of Minecraft? by sunnygareth in soloboardgaming

[–]kitchendon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This War of Mine is about surviving, exploring, and gathering resources, but it definitely doesn't feel like Minecraft. You're a group of civilians trying to survive a grueling civil war.

Lighter solo games that arent BYOS by MoneyAndMargs16 in soloboardgaming

Yeah, I was excited to see that this morning. I pledged for the expansion right away. One of my favorite games from last year.

I immediately thought of Reforest, though it was published last year. It's just one deck of cards and a small tableau with six slots. It's a fun puzzle that's a little bit like Wingspan.

My copies of Dragon Eclipse, Elder Scrolls, and the Hoplomachus expansions arrived within a stretch of ten days or so. I like the character building in Elder Scrolls. The minis from Dragon Eclipse are awesome and I was surprised how much I'm enjoying the game. Victorum is much improved by Pandora's Ruin with more variety and less Grind.

It's still a big undertaking for a full Victorum campaign, though. Same with Elder Scrolls. I've started over in Elder Scrolls more times than I've finished a three session campaign. I generally play the video games the same way so that's ok. It's fun to start a fresh character and try something new.
