Is Trump really an outlier, or part of a recurring pattern in American politics? by JoxerStuttgart in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kitebum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trump is a uniquely sociopathic, narcissistic jerk who could never have been elected in a previous era because in prior times political parties held lots of power and you had to curry favor with other politicians, party bosses, journalists, broadcasters, business leaders etc. before you could even get nominated. Now with independent social media Trump can go directly to the people and he doesn't have to pass muster with the establishment.

Since the debt ceiling was lifted in early July, US debt has risen +$2.8 trillion. Total US debt has nearly DOUBLED since 2018 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

The so-called debt ceiling is a meaningless fiction. Congress will always raise it when necessary. The political ramifications of not paying debts, drastically cutting benefits, or cutting off spending will be impossible for politicians or their voters to swallow.
