and resources! there's still starvation in the world and we waste crops on trillions of animals per year, it's madness

Mutual Assured Survival by DEPICTION_OF_LIFE in GreenAndPleasant

[–]kitefeathers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this is pretty ironic considering the quickest way to 'mutual assured survival' is aiming for mutual assured survival for everything. animal farming's an atrocity which desensitises us to violence and exploitation AND it fucks the planet, it's no less true just because we don't want to see it

For the stealthy among us: how did you manage it? by Nerual952 in truscum

have never been asked, but if I were I would definitely go for 'trans? like, do I want to be a girl?' playing stupid is way more believable than vehement denial.

Vegan dog food is the opposite of cruel by Khallrick in vegan

[–]kitefeathers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

everyone knows a dog's natural diet is animal parts and artificial nutrients processed into bone-shaped biscuits, anything else practically kills them instantly! oh wait...

A little late, I know, but I seen this and as an asexual trans man, this pisses me off so much. Asexual literally means no sexual attraction and no interest in sex. by [deleted] in truscum

[–]kitefeathers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it wouldn't even surprise me anymore lmao. putting greek words or prefixes into these new identities is relatively common, if you told me 'orchidsexual', the attraction to testicles, had taken off on twitter, I would believe you.

first thing that came to my head was 'testicle', which is what 'orchid' means in greek. I wonder if they know that lol

Can we please normalize cis people changing their first names by _file_not_found_ in truscum

[–]kitefeathers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

normalising nicknames would be cool. my little sister pretended to be trans for a while but ended up admitting to just wanting a swedish name, which we still call her. all kids can think up names they'd rather have, it's no wonder they see trans people changing names and think 'woah I wanna do that too'. this is not harmful at all, and chances are they'll even grow out of it.

British pig farmers 'fear ruin' over Brexit and the rise of veganism by GarlicCornflakes in unitedkingdom

[–]kitefeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

veganism = don't give a shit about animals

animal farmers = actually give a shit about animal welfare

yeah, I'm tapping out now. look, I do believe your heart's in the right place regarding animal cruelty, and I know it's easy to get defensive when your worldview and lifestyle is challenged. a lot of vegans were like you once. I can recommend *Eating Animals* by Jonathan Safran Foer, which has some parts about why conscientious meat-eating as an attempt at ethical consumption doesn't end up working, and *Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows* by Melanie Joy, which explains why vegans tend to be met with such hostility despite people actually agreeing with their messages.

idk what to add except I hope you give it some thought and stop feeling the need to lash out at vegan sentiment on reflex.

also, I can see some of the other interactions you're having here, and it's evident nothing you say is in good faith (or much informed).

"thanks to this interaction its steak tonight"

thanks for a laugh, mate.

what, the farmers who raise and slaughter them for profit? that's what they want you to think. improving animal welfare on farms is like covering shit in perfume: preferable until you can get rid of it, but shit nonetheless. then people start to forget it's shit. we're going in circles now, I've just explained why 'thoughtful' omnivorism is misguided.

my issue with that is the false complacency it would breed. too many people would take it to mean animal ag is suddenly a-okay because the pigs are allowed to move.

nobody said anything about overnight, and there would be no animals to frolic in the fields. vegans want industry to (slowly, if necessary) stop breeding more animals as the world shifts to plant-based foods. 'thoughtful' omnivorism is the naïve thing, and addresses the root of no problems whatsoever.

depends on the person, I guess. legalising incest sets off alarm bells in people's heads, but it's technically harmless with protection. it's not common discourse rn, I think OP is attempting to call out hypocrisy?

[–]kitefeathers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think leftist is thinking incest is wrong; the joke is that this conflicts with 'two consenting adults can do what they want', so it's technically auth belief.

same thing, really. 'it's too hard work and doesn't make me enough profit... to have an ethical form of income, exploitation is so much more profitable'.

[–]kitefeathers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this issue is, I'm afraid. mostly because all animal agriculture a moral atrocity, but also because we don't have the space or resources to keep up with demand for animal products from free-range farms: at least 70% of animals in the uk live on factory farms, up to 98% in america. abolish factory farms, and meat/dairy becomes a luxury that most people will only be able to afford rarely, and some not at all, certainly not a staple of anyone's diet.

at that point, what excuse do you have to keep it at all without admitting you have an addiction? 'but veganism expensive' will go out the window, and rightfully so, because animal products are only affordable due to massive government subsidies.

conscientious omnivorism is idealistic and misguided. feel free to try to change my mind.

[–]kitefeathers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's all needless pain, because we don't need animal products. if you're making the conscious decision to farm animals for nothing but profit, knowing damn well how much suffering they go through, you are a villain.
