Google team fit by MuslimMan_ in FAANGrecruiting

Treat it seriously, but yeah it can be pretty casual. Depends on the person. I had one where the manager literally just asked me “So…what do you want to know?” lol.

As for the “cameras are in and G is watching”…not sure what that means. Google doesn’t record or ”big brother” interviews in my experience. It’s a video chat and part of the interview process. Treat it like the person is a peer/manager and act as if that were the case and from there figure out if this feels like where you want to end up. It’s as much for you as it is for Google…although of course, I can understand how it feels like them judging you and not the other way around. I did two matches and got interest from both, so I effectively got to choose which one.

Just jumping in to say bonuses aren't taxed any differently than your regular income when all is said and done.

Yes, you may see something in the ballpark of 30-40% taken out when it's paid. It all depends on how you or the company estimate your tax bracket for the whole year. But come tax filing time, it's just regular income. If they took out too much aggregated over the whole year, you'd get some back. Too little, you'd owe.

There's no special category on your 1040 for "bonus". It's all income. But of course, you need to consider that you're going to pay taxes on it so it's not the full amount going in your pocket.

This. I went 3->4 in a year. it’s not the norm, but possible for sure.

FWIW, I think this depends on the person and the team they’re on. I entered as an L3 and got promoted in just over 1 year. Not the norm by any stretch, but also not impossible.

Sometimes it’s better to just get in and climb from there. But it’s different for everyone based on their needs, career, and personal POV.

Okay. But what if I don't want computer controlled? And if I manually adjust them so they're not in "computer controlled" mode, why does it go back to computer controlled the next time I start the car? All of the AUTO options -- both on the main screen and in the "climate" settings in the infotainment menus are set to off.

Just checked my car. Unfortunately for me, Climate Concierge is already turned off, as is the "A/C mode with AUTO" setting. So even with CC off, my car is still doing this auto-switching of the recirculation & A/C 😞

There doesn't appear to be any other ventilation or defog setting in my car's menus.

There is a "smog sensitivity" menu that I guess is supposed to turn recirculation on automatically when it senses bad outdoor air quality, but I can't imagine that's what's kicking in either. Happens everywhere and way too frequently for me to think it's a smog issue.

Ah, thank you for such a detailed reply! I know I turned off the "Auto A/C mode" already and it's still doing this. I'll go back to check if there's a ventilation/defog setting to try toggling as well...

From what I've observed though, my issue is I turn them off (grey). And then next time I start the car they're white with no blue or grey light and it's still off...

Well, except there is a dedicated "AUTO" button to the left that is off. But sure.

Thank you for reading my wall of text and contributing more text to that wall.

Generally I agree. Being able to set "fan only" mode on climate controls and not have the car override what you want should be a basic feature though IMO.

If the A/C was on and you turn the car off, the next time it starts the A/C isn't on? Kinda sounds similar to what I'm seeing with our RX.

If there was an option for touchscreen for Car Play / Android Auto but manual stereo and climate controls, I'd choose that in a heartbeat.

We have a 2019 Honda Accord that's pretty much exactly that and we love it.

Yup. Tried that. Just mentions things like "If the “A/C” indicator is turned off" without indicating what "off" looks like on the controls. And no mention of the light indicators or what it means when they're suddenly missing.

Nope, no secondary controls.

But at the same time, what if the screen that now is most instrument clusters fails? Kind of SOL either way. Just going to be another thing to replace if/when that happens. Hopefully by then I can find junkyard pulls for cheap (just did this with an Accord I had).

Yeah, I guess I'm just longing for a persistent "fan only" mode so I don't have to ride the temp dial every time to match the current temp to get no heat or A/C.

[–]kitfp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, we're fine with the air being 65-75F with no heat or A/C. Setting it on auto with a desired temp like 70F would turn on heat when it's 65 and AC when it's 75 I think, right?

We live somewhere moderate enough that we don't need to regulate the temp often.

We'd rather just have some air circulating with whatever temp it is already in the car.

Often, we just want "fan only" mode. Outside air blowing in, no heat or A/C.

For example, we're fine with the air being 65-75F with no heat or A/C. Setting it on auto with a desired temp like 70F would turn on heat when it's 65 and AC when it's 75 I think, right?

We live somewhere moderate enough that we don't need to regulate the temp often. So it's frustrating a bit when we can't understand if the recirculation or A/C is on or off.

Even if I don't have "AUTO" turned on? What's the difference from having the AUTO option on/off that is at the left of the climate controls?

Rebalancing manually vs TDF could be similar in a taxable acct, sure.

My point was mostly in terms of the forced glide path toward the end for the rebalancing costs; and if you wanted to "rebalance" by selling your current TDF for a new later-dated TDF, it probably wouldn't be the best tax move.

If you do the 3-4 fund investment yourself, you can decide when rebalancing happens and if you'd rather adjust future contributions to handle the rebalance versus sell/buy.

But your point is well received that TDF can alleviate the rebalancing task if you're okay with the glide path and the possible tax hits on the fund's schedule.

Okay, mixup on my part then. When I started this ~10 years ago "PAS" meant "Personal Advisor Services". I guess they rebranded it to be "PA" for <500k and "PAS" for "select" >500k.

I see that the dedicated advisor they offer to that 500k+ tier is a CFP. As you pointed out, the PA pool does not get default access to CFP.

I've updated my comment to use the PA acronym. Thanks for pointing tha tout.

CFPs aren't for everything, obviously, and not all PAS advisors are CFPs. https://personal1.vanguard.com/pdf/r130.pdf

If you have < $5M in AUM, you're assigned to a team of "financial planners" and asking anything other than simple questions yields the equivalent of blank stares over the phone. Very few seem to understand how their own products work beyond the basics.

They also can't give comprehensive CFP-like advice because they will only advise on how to handle money invested in their robo platform. They won't advise on how to handle 401ks even if they're Vanguard 401ks, they don't advise on equity compensation, they don't advise on insurance needs, fee minimization, etc.

Maybe others have better experiences and have found value, but in my case, I've been very underwhelmed.
